I don't understand why people think that if someone goes back in time, they aren't born. Doc went back to 1885, but he was still Doc. Another way to think about it is to think of someone moving to another country, and asking if they wouldn't be born because they moved to Japan. It's like with Marty--he was seventeen when he first arrived in 1955; he didn't suddenly become any other age. What endangers one's birth is messing with the timeline, as was the plot of the first movie. If you keep your head down and don't interfere with time, it's possible to have next to no effect on history. I've seen this from people reacting to a lot of different time travel movies, not just the BttF trilogy.

What happened was probably the longest running meme in history. Everyone, even me, made a joke how there were no hoverboards in 2015. Think it was Zemeckis himself in some commentary for the movie or something that said "We knew we were gonna guess wrong, so just made whatever". And they still got the giant TV screens, Skype calls, Google glasses/phones in general and 80's nostalgia right.

Most amazingly, they got the CUBS right. The Cubs hadn't won a World Series since 1908. They predicted that the Cubs would not win another World Series until 2015. They missed by only 1 year as the Cubs won in 2016. Incredible. Additionally, there was no Miami Marlins until 1993- and no consideration of a Miami MLB team in 1985. They predicted that Miami would have a team - and that team would be in the World Series. Miami - a team not even invented yet- won the World Series in 1997 and in 2003. The entire Back To The Future universe is the best in movie history. Even the Universal Studios Back To The Future ride was the best ride in amusement park history. Also- Best Musical Score in Cinema history.

In 1989, there was a "Back to the Future, Part II" behind-the-scenes special on ABC. Zemeckis facetiously remarked that hoverboards had been around for years but were kept out of production by "parent groups." Kids took it seriously and thought or hoped that Mattel Hoverboards would eventually be released.

@lazyperfectionist12 жыл бұрын
20:06 "What _happened_ to _him?_ Did he get beaten up by the _past_ Biff?" He trifled with forces of which his understanding was _drastically_ insufficient. This was explained in the commentary over one of the deleted scenes on the DVD. You've seen the whole movie by this point, so I'll just explain. You've seen the dystopian 1985 that emerged from young Biff getting his hands on the sports almanac and betting on the winner, and subsequently becoming the wealthiest person in the US (and probably other countries as well). You've seen the abusive, predatory monster that emerged. You've seen the Lorraine that put _up_ with it. Apparently, in the alternate timeline, somewhere between 1985 and 2015, Biff pushes Lorraine to the point where she's _not_ willing to put up with it anymore and she shoots and _kills_ him. At _this_ point, we're seeing the ripple effect as the _original_ timeline is switching to the alternate. That's the cause of the pain that Biff is _manifesting._ He's dying. In the deleted scene, as soon as the DeLorean vanishes into the past, Biff cries out in agony, lies on the ground, and vanishes, as the original timeline is consumed by the alternate.

I prefer the interpretation that time travel just overstressed his heart. The extended version has Biff fading from existence. Apparently, they lost the audiences on test views. Under this interpretation, where Lorraine shoots Biff in the 1990s, we apparently narrowly escaped a Universe-destroying paradox because Biff never went back to give himself the almanac. I also wondered about the authorities' response to young Biff's major victories in sports-betting.

33:14 "Why are they doing this dance?" I read somewhere that it was to distract from the height difference between Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox. I'm sure someone's told you that MJF was the second actor cast as Marty, and the first actor was taller. So when 5'4" MJF showed up, the height difference between Doc and Marty was really pronounced. Once I read that, I noticed that Doc crouches a lot when he talks to Marty. And this running back and forth thing also makes it less obvious. Very silly, but less obvious. Thanks for doing this trilogy, it's such a fan favorite and you let us relive it. I agree with you: Biff's good looking. The continuity in this is awesome. 16:40 There was an argument between the producer and the original actor for George (Crispin Glover) considering his payment. It ended that the producer went for a different actor for George. But after already Jennifer was exchanged (the original Jennifer actress decided to not take part in the sequels due to personal circumstances in her family) they feared that another actor for George would disturb the link to the first movie too much. so they came up with the idea of George hanging upside down all the time so that nobody notices that is actually a different actor. Im not sure if George was originally supposed to have more screentime in the 2nd movie or if they cut down his screentime after their decision, but if the intention was always to show him in the future for a couple of seconds, I get why the producer refused to pay him more money. On the other hand if more screentime was planned for George, especially the whereabouts of his murder in the alternative timeline, I get why the actor would go for higher payment.

Part II is my favorite but from a today points of view.. flying cars are a stupid idea.. seriously. Sounds super cool also the Hover Board. We will never have “Flying Cars” Unless we actually get to the level of technology of something close to star wars / star trek…. To make flying cars work you have to overcome a bunch of issues. #1: Safety. If a car breaks, it does not fall out of the sky. A car wreck is not as likely to kill some one as a aircraft crash. It’s actually harder to fly then drive. #2: Control. You need a air traffic controller to direct aircraft… That only gets worse with flying cars. #3: Economy… Remember what I said about star trek / star wars… Well ya, your going to need that level of Technology to make it work, because of the amount of POWER needed to fly. Simply put, your going to use to much fuel. And to much energy to make this work unless you can produce a lot of energy in the air craft itself. So your going to need some sci-fi energy thing going on… And you most likely going to have to have computers fly the aircraft anyways.

Well said! Not to mention, cars will instead be crashing into skyscrapers, making 9/11 seem like a daily event. And i can't imagine how noisy they are gonna be, like helicopters! Jeffrey Weissman said that this isn't true, apparently this device was written into the first draft when they still thought they could get Crispin Glover to reprise his role. The reason was this: when they made the first movie, they had difficulties to get Crispin Glover to stay on his mark. So they thought of this device to keep him where he was supposed to be in the frame. Nevertheless, it helped to sell the illusion when they had to change actors.

Time travel is NOT retroactive. IF Marty was able to become a millionaire with the Almanac as he wanted, it would not affect the dorkiness of his son. The future that Marty visits is the future of where he left, not of where he came back to. It's not an accident that alternate 1985 Biff looks and sounds like Donald Trump. It was done on purpose. It was a parody of Donald Trump. I remember Donald Trump from the 1980s and he did look and sound like Biff in alternate 1985. The reason that Biff doesn't hear Marty talking to Doc on the wakie-talkie while driving is because Marty if facing AWAY from Biff AND Biff has the radio on. There's no way Biff would hear Marty in this situation. I made the same error as you did the first time I watched this movie. The reason Doc doesn't recognize his own voice when younger Doc speaks to older Doc is because your voice doesn't sound the same. Have you never noticed your recorded voice sounds different than the voice you hear while you're speaking? Well the same goes for younger Doc.

He is just sporting a bad case of the over-blinged Las Vegas vibe, with a touch of badly done late Elvis components sprinkled on top :P I have also never heard someone dishing out such a colorful verbal abuse of the doc for sure xD At some point I was starting to think you might be in a really bad mood, then I just noticed that it was the simple case of missing doc's explanation, like when you asked why he was staying in the air in a storm, when he just told the reason a minute earlier . (something about the wind being too strong for safe landing and he would need to attempt it at a flat angle from a different direction if I recall correctly) As for why using a bicycle to go to the Tannen house It is kind of simple if you think about it. Lowering risk factor. I mean there is already enough meddling with this 1955. There is Marty from the original 1985, an old Biff from 2015, another Marty from alternate 1985 and another doc from alternate 1985 and an extra time machine here. None of which belong here, so our doc is just taking extra steps to ensure he would minimize additional changes. In all fairness I'm not even sure if Hill Valley had a taxi cab service in 1955 to begin with and he can't just drive the time machine on the streets - remember Old Man Peabody's shotgun reaction when the people of 1955 encountered the time machine? . Also - as you pointed out - he is lacking the street smarts to steal a car, not to mention the unknown consequences if he would do that. So he was going with the safest option of buying things at a store. Meaning he had to walk from where the time machine was hidden, into the town, and buy the clothing and bicycle before even trying to find the address. (you can see the price tags still attached to the bike and clothing he is wearing) In any case the reaction to the end when the time machine disappeared was priceless as usual with the "-Whaaat?!" gasp :P These surprised reactions allow old farts like me to view the movies from new perspectives and re-live the feeling of watching for the first time, so thank you for sharing your reaction and putting in the work ;) Looking forward to your reaction of part 3 (you did good to stop the preview of it ! )

yeah, this movie pretty much got it right, except the Donald Trump in power was in 2015 but Donald was in 1985 as a mogul , they got the Cubs winning the World Series right , Doc has an iphone , when he's zooming in on the woman's tits in 2015. we did have 3d movies, but i haven't seen a movie be in 3d for a while since the pandemic started, maybe they didn't want people sharing the glasses. the only thing is no hover cars or boards, the prop used magnets to hover, and they covered up the metal walkway with gravel for the magnet under the hoverboard to hover on. because you would need either a positive charge and a negative charged road or a positive charged road, whatever one would repel the board. maybe the same technology would work for the cars, but that would mean that the roads were coated with metal. i heard once that there is a number frequency for gravity, and if you can figure out your planet's gravitational frequency, you could theoretically build a machine to cancel out that frequency and therefore defy gravity with it.

Oh, you edited away the line. "The other great mystery in the universe, women" :-) This is a very fun trilogy, even if one should not think too hard. Future not changing when Biff returned, the info in the almanac not outdating from Biffs influence etc. Lots of plotweirdness.
@CalciumChief2 жыл бұрын
Biff betting on sports events has nothing to do with the alamanach. He doesn't bribe anyone in those events, so they play out as they should. But yeah, old Biff shouldn't return to his own future. Either the future would've changed the moment he handed himself the book, or it's a different universe and it didn't affect Doc and Marty's 1985.
@memnarch1292 жыл бұрын
@@CalciumChief predestination paradox. Biff returns to normal future because Marty and Doc go bac to 55 and destroy the book. Because it happened in the past the future never changed. Time Mechanics get VERY convoluted. To quote Dr Who "wibbly wobbly timey whimy stuff"
@sexistatheist64642 жыл бұрын
It's entirely possible that the future _had_ changed by the time that Old Biff returned to 2015. The fact that the neighbourhood Doc and Marty were in looked the same doesn't mean that nothing else changed. Also, if the changes Old Biff made in the past affected the outcome of later sports events, then the established rules of the franchise suggest that the Almanac would've been automatically updated to reflect the new timeline, just like the polaroid photos, newspapers, matchbook, fax, etc.

You: Old Biff turned young Biff into Donald Trump. Me: Yep, that was the whole point. Zemeckis modeled alternate 1985 Biff after Trump. Michael J. Fox said years ago about Trump "Biff is running our country" or something to that nature. Which is why Biff seems really familiar in BTTF 2 cause we have a real life Biff which is Trump.

While I do enjoy all three movies, and will watch them all together when I watch them again, neither of the sequels have that classic feel as the first, and IMO the second one is the weakest of the three. Yes, Claudia Wells was replaced by Elizabeth Shue who also played the girlfriend in the original Karate Kid. Claudia couldn't film because she learned her mother had cancer and stopped acting for a while. It's funny because the studio claimed no one noticed the switch in actresses, but I sure noticed and you did to, and I know many people noticed to the point we waited until the end for the cast to confirm it. Marty's father was replaced as well, which is probably why they had the character upside down as some futuristic "healing tool", because Crispin Glover was lowballed compared to the other actors. This also resulted in a nasty lawsuit that was settled for $750K. Ah Cafe 80s, funny now because I look at the 80s as meh. I think the producers were predicting thought controlled machines, hence using hands in a game is a baby's toy. It's also funny too, because none of the fashion trends or the cool tech came to past in 2015 and faxes were long dead technology by 2015. Still waiting for my hoverboard lol. Japan slid in world standing compared to the 1980s when the general public opinions thought they would be the dominant nation by then. Indeed if I could go back to my past, I would do the same, but I would be careful so that my investments in the new timeline do not cause serious disruption, but enough I would make bank. In reality if Biff bet too much and won too much, history would change, betting rules would change and the games themselves would have changed and soon the book would be worthless. Of course a major plot hole is how did Biff know how to operate a time machine, especially since he's none too smart. Biff Tannen in the alternate timeline was modeled after Donald Trump, and this was long before he even got in politics too, but still was ostentatious with gold plated everything. Marty's mom was modeled after Tammy Faye Baker, wife of the televangelist James Baker. Marty must have super ninja stealth skills, never getting detected all those times. 😂 It's a good post office because it's not a post office, it was Western Union, back in 1885 they were the giant tech company of the time, with telegraph operations all over the US and even some world reach too. Thus they held the letter longer than our post office would and carried out the specific instructions. Both Part 2 and Part 3 were actually filmed at the same time. So the sequels were smooth. Anyway, really enjoy wasting my time again with you! Loved your reactions as always.

Wow! I didn't even think of that, yep they would've definitely changed the rules if Biff kept winning, kinda like kicking out a player if he wins too much at Blackjack. And thanks for the info as well :)

Shree , here's a dark theory, when Marty burned the almanac , he destroyed the entrance to that dark dimension where Biff was Donald Trump. and that's where they left Jennifer asleep on the porch in that bad neighborhood, and that she wouldn't get shunted into the dimension where Marty and Doc were. she'd be stuck there, where she wakes up in the middle of the night in that bad neighborhood where something traumatic to say the leas happens to her. and that there might also be a double of her there, one who was a highschool dropout and a prostitute drug user.

Just as an FYI, Twitter has permanently suspended my account. If you'd like to communicate in the future, I can provide other means. I have no intention of starting a new account. Twitter has become a complete cesspool, useless for even advertising my videos. If they want me gone, I'm perfectly content to let the door hit my ass on my way out.

@@ShreeNation during the Oscars (just prior to *The Slap Heard 'Round the World* ), Amy Schumer's rep Tweeted something about her hosting. Now, I find Schumer to be a one-trick pony who has no act if she's not discussing sex and the particulars of her biology. I rhetorically asked if she was doing her act on the Oscars, and I used language that I know for certain came directly from a special I had the poor luck to watch. Twitter didn't like this and labeled the Tweet hate speech and suspended my account. Timing may have had something to do with it. They probably recieved the report on the Tweet just as Will Smith caused the greatest night in the history of television. Put back-to-back or on top of each other, it could look even more tasteless than quoting Schumer. I don't really know how asking if she's doing her act at the Oscars and being specific about it qualifies as hate speech, but Twitter works in mysterious ways. 😇
