🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: [00:13] COMT gene alterations can lead to estrogen dominance, but not always. This video will discuss the connection. [01:09] COMT (catechol-O-methyltransferase) is an enzyme that breaks down catecholamines, including catechol estrogens. [01:37] ⚖️ Estrogen dominance is an imbalance of estrogen and progesterone, with too much estrogen and too little progesterone. [02:05] COMT dysfunction can lead to higher estrogen levels due to impaired breakdown of catechol estrogens. [03:39] Genetic testing can reveal COMT gene alterations that affect enzyme function. [04:18] Specific COMT gene polymorphism (rs4680) is linked to slower estrogen breakdown. [05:00] ❌ COMT mutations don't guarantee estrogen dominance; other elimination pathways exist. [05:15] ⚠️ Methylated estrogens, though easier to eliminate, can still exert estrogenic effects. [05:39] Examining estrogen dominance requires looking beyond COMT to assess other estrogen breakdown pathways. Made with HARPA AI

I’m COMT ++ who due to high stress is now estrogen dominate. I am also MTHFR heterozygous. I’m currently trying to detox my overload of epinephrine, norepinephrine, and estrogen right now. I’m taking magnesium flake baths, detoxing and supplementing with SAMe, Magnesium, Glutathione, folate and B12.

My daughter(8) is the same - COMT rs4680 +/+ and COMT rs4633 +/+ and MTHFR rs1801131 +/- I am giving her zinc, molibdenum, manganese, magnesium (bisglycinate), potassium, B3(niacinamide), B6(P-5-P), B9(folinic acid not folic) B12 (non methylated), B2 , B5, B1 , D , C, taurine, choline, lysine, arginine, glycine, selenium, little bit of tryptophan for sleep, GABA, BACOPA, Theanine, BCAA, milk thistle, BUT still she is very unstable. She had a major psychosis a year ago, that's when we started our nutrition therapy. Looks like it could take years to stabilize such a severe condition as COMT +/+. I am wondering if it's even possible to be normal and act normal with COMT +/+ mutations.

If you wanna clear excess estrogen, eat cruciferous vegetables. I'm also COMT homozygous. Honestly, you have to fix your circadian rhythm, gut health, diet. Throwing a bunch of supplements at it can just be confusing and counterproductive. I love my COMT mutations now that I am healthy, especially during the first half of my cycle. Use it to get kickass workouts out in upon waking!

What are the genes that control the other pathways for estrogen methylation?
@swintegrative9 ай бұрын
I think what you are looking for is estrogen detoxification which I don't have a detailed video on this one might help some though. COMT is the methylation detox of estrogen. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4rPd42Qm9WXr6M

Hi Tricia, that's a good idea but your doctor probably won't order it.

So, if I have four homozygous COMT ++ genes , plus a homozygous cyp1a1 gene, I'm basically going to have estrogen coming out the wazoo? All kidding aside, I've had what I perceive to be extra dominance, as a male, most of my life. Combating it has been very very difficult. I currently am 41 years old, have been on trt replacement for about a year now. I also take an aromatase inhibitor to keep too much of the testosterone from aromatizing. However, I'd like to stop taking the aromatase inhibitor - based on some of the negative cardiac correlations out there. Wish there was another way to combat this. Carbohydrates seem to also be my worst enemy.
@swintegrative3 жыл бұрын
Insulin resistance also increases aromatase activity.

Apart from other minerals and vitamins have you tried magnesium... a lot of it ? I am a completely different person when on magnesium - always calm. I mix malate, lactate, threonate and bisglycinate. From my experience, probably Zinc and Mg are the most important minerals for COMT +/+. I gave up all carbs totally, for 2 years now - no bread no potatoes no sweet juices or fruits. It really makes the difference.
