Great video dude. You really expanded on the spraying "wet" concept. I was definitely spraying too lightly, but when it comes out of the sprayer, it's "wet" so I didn't really think there was a difference. Someone just saying "you have to put down wet coats" doesn't really mean anything to a noob like myself since it's already a wet product! Thanks for breaking it down!!

I followed this procedure (after years of light coat recommendation videos) and I can honestly say I'm VERY impressed with the results on my 06 eclipse front bumper. Thanks sick dips! I learned something new watching this vid. Side note: I did my bumper the same last year with light coats and took it off after a couple months because I wasn't fully satisfied. QUICK TIP: spray the edges of the tape a couple minutes (maybe 1) before removing the tape, makes for some crispy lines. Careful with the dust. Good video, well documented. Thanks again for the help

I think its all depend on the surface you spary. If you spraying on flat surface of course this technique is better. But if you spray on rim with many edges and corners then thick coat will build up runs and drip on that part.

Thanks for the vid man - had a question though. I found it funny that you recommend basically doing what Fonzie at DYC doesn't recommend...that is going heavy on the first coat? In his instructional vids he recommends doing light coats and building up the layers slowly? Just curious, as your finish seems to come out great with no texture. Do they heavy coats seem to just work better for you?
@SickDips9 жыл бұрын
+NickBen11 I find that you can do it thick from the very first coat and you will not get texture with it. If his way works for you, by all means do that, but this is how I get it to work. :)

There is a bit of an art to working with this stuff....as I'm starting to find out 🤣🤣 I did the mirror caps on my car yesterday....deliberated removing the caps first but as at least one of the caps has some broken clips I was concerned if break them getting them off so decided to do them in situ. Masked them off using proper 3M tape and also masked off what I thought would prevent over spray.......needless to say it turned out a bit disastrous. The weather cooled, there was a light breeze and I began to run out of light, I didn't know about warming the cans either so the product went on too thickly and left a mottled finish. Also the fallout from the spray went all over the car so its now covered in over spray and plastidust....apart from where I masked off. I know it will come off but not looking forward to having to do it....might try the WD40 method if it proves too difficult. I am going to warm the can and add 2 or three thick coats on each cap (assuming the remaining can will go the distance) and hopefully will then have a smooth finish. I will then add glossifier to finish it off at some point. So advice to anyone trying this..... If in colder condition/climate warm the cans (102f/38c about right), it doesnt atomise properly for a smooth finish otherwise. Be sure to mask up properly.....the stuff literally gets everywhere particularly if there is any sort of breeze. Again it's not the problem it would be with regular paint but it will save you some cleanup effort afterwards. If you are going to go the rattle can route consider getting a pistol grip for your cans, at least for the final coats. Having to press the nozzle whilst workable isnt comfortable and I dont think contributes to a decent finish. Really and truthfully, I probably shouldn't have cheapskated and just gotten two new caps and had them painted but if I can get a decent final finish and it lasts a few years I'll be happy.

you left out the part if you want it to permanently stick. also is spraying from a gun the same as the can and no thinning required. my biggest problem i have unable to find is permanent sticking it to stainless steel besides using plasti dip primer. they claim you can use any acrylic automotive primer except rustoeum. for a more permanent adhesion. i get the wet. they sold me glossy plasti dip in a spray can. but my concern is the permanent bonding part over stainless steel. and the proper steps to do so if possible. ?

what if your car is dipped and it has texture after it's dry. how do you smooth it out. can you just pay a thicker couple of coats and it will smooth out?
@amritbhathal14879 жыл бұрын
so I was thinking of dipping my emblems, should you still do a light tack coat, or go heavy? I Dont want uneven spots with texture, I've seen it on emblems like that and it looks terrible. I was trying to figure out of getting even coat through the inside and outside angles. Heating up the can downs like a great idea.
@AndresGarcia-un3wx9 жыл бұрын
Allways go heavy. I plasti dip my emblems and grill for a year and wet coats and the more coats you pass, better results
@SickDips9 жыл бұрын
+Amrit Bhathal The only time you EVER want to do a tack coat, is if you are working with small surface areas like emblems, mesh grilles, or anything like that. If you do tack coats and dust the plastidip on, you won't get the plastidip to self level. Heating the can is probably the best thing you can do to improve your results because the plastidip atomizes much better that way as the pressure in the can increases

3 years ago, I've applied plastidip spray on my front bumper, but it wasn't finished well as I expected(texture,orange peel).So I have purchased 'Dip dissolver' a year later, but I haven't tried it. Yesterday, after washing my car, I started to remove ugly orange peeled black matte black plastidip with Dip dissolver following by instruction video. I applied enough amount of dissolver onto area over 3 times to make sure it melt down then tried to wash out with garden hose.. However, it did not come off. So I tried to wipe it off with fiber towel, it looks more ugly, like stinky gunk wont come off. Now, I don't know what should I do. Please help. (how about re-spray plastidip thick wet coat again over the compromised residue?)
