I leave the Sony FE 24-105mm F4 on my a7 III 80% of the time, and switch to the Sony FE 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 when I need the extra reach. Since I travel a lot, I want lighter, more flexible lenses, and seldom need fast optics. I use a Sigma Art 14mm F1.8 for wide field astrophotography, so I'm not afraid of primes, but I only use them for certain tasks and shooting situations. In particular, the 24-105 combined with the a7 III gives me amazing IS!

Ooh. This is a good one. I just finally settled on the 24-105, and I couldn't be happier. I like the native glass experience, the extra reach, and stabilization. I have fast primes if I need 1.8 or lower, but I think this one will serve me well.

aaargh...still on the fence. How do you like the bokeh on the 24-105? I also have 24 and 55 primes, but looking for a run and gun (travel) lens when I don't want to switch lenses. The sigma 2.8 seems great for bokeh and extra light, but I do mostly video, so the OSS and less weight on the sony would help a little, as well more reach.
@joshwozny4 жыл бұрын
Cedric Rachmad I actually prefer the bokeh on the Sony. It’s a bit creamier and less chaotic than on the Tamron, IMO. The extra reach was important to me, but I haven’t had a chance to really put it to the test, yet. I’ll be traveling with it coming up in the next few months and I’ll really get a feel for it. I grabbed this lens for $950 US, which puts it right in line with the Tamron pricing - and when pricing is the same, native glass definitely wins.
@CedricRachmad4 жыл бұрын
@@joshwozny I can imagine the bokeh is better also because of the extra mm's. I think you just might steer me towards the Sony :)

I just recently got a A7R IV which has a 61 megapixel sensor. When I would zoom to 70mm and shoot in APS-C crop, I basically have 105 mm with still 26 megapixels to work with, so that is also a consideration. On the otherhand I'm used to 24-105mm reach...
@xoehan3 жыл бұрын
I ended up getting the sony 24-105 over the sigma . It's just more versatile and lightweight and excellent for traveling. The quality on decent light is identical and newer sony cameras have excellent iso performance anyway but yes 2.8 will be much better if you shoot indoors but why would you use this lens indoors? I would rather use prime lenses for low light indoor photos.

@RicochetForce3 жыл бұрын
From pretty much all the tests I've seen one of the strengths of the 24-105 is that it's sharp at ALL focal lengths, instead of having the typical degradation you typically seen in Zoom lenses. The Sigma is sharp, but it's soft in the corners, soft at different points in the focal range, and the Chromatic Aberration issue is still there to this day.

Thanks! I was waiting this review to decide what lenses to buy on that range, I think that I would choose the Tamron 28-75. Since the announcement of the Sigma I hold my decision until see it on reviews. It's great lens but for me it doesn't worth the extra money, and the portability is a also factor. This Sony is seems to be a great lens but I'm planning to get a 70-200 or maybe the next tamron 70-180, so I prefer the 2.8 instead the extra reach because I'll have it in the near future.
@armando.visuals4 жыл бұрын
Watching this again after other many reviews about sigma and around 80% of them or at least the most professional ones complain about the sigma chromatic ab. and bokeh being distorted many times. its what worries me so i think the Sony will be good for me since ill be using it for A7SIII which is already great at low light. This video was very helpful thank you
@jessicaarverne11815 жыл бұрын
I have tried the 24-105 Sony. I was frightened by the weight but I find it well balanced on the A7iii. I like the range and I use the 105 mm a lot. The sharpness is much better than that of the equivalent Canon zooms of 10 years ago. The distortion is more complex than mere pin cushion and barrel distortion but it is easily corrected in post. The lens is not creeping at all you cannot extend the barrel by pulling the front of the lens. Kudos Sony. On my copy, the vignetting at 24mm is not as bad as I feared. And by the way, distortion correction cropping eliminates the worst par of extreme corner vignetting at 24mm. All in all, I'm happy with this lens and I would not replace it with 24 to 70 mm f2.8 zoom lens. In low light I use faster prime lenses.
@CedricRachmad4 жыл бұрын
But how is the bokeh? I have the tamron now for sale, replacing it with either of these 2. My main purpose is for run and gun/travel video. I have primes for the rest.
@jessicaarverne11814 жыл бұрын
@@CedricRachmad For me, the bokeh is very good at 105mm f4. It's soft and creamy. If you want bokeh you will have to shoot on the longer end of the lens. The Tamron is of course lighter and less cumbersome. But I like having both 24 and 105mm focal lens. For travel photography, if you don't mind the extra weight, go with the Sony.

Seems like very few or "no" views address this (THE MOST IMPORTANT) aspect. I want the absolute sharpest image that I can afford to buy! Well, Sigma may replace Stefan's lens, because 12000 peoples have seen its videos, so it might be a good communication move....but what about those who haven't got a youtube channel ? If I do receive a defective lens, I'm not quite sure they'll send me another one. Which is a problem, because we've seen that even the Sigma's support wasn't able to solve the issue. That lens has "technically" passed the quality control twice, but failed twice, at the factory and in the reparation center (even worse). Not a good sign at all.
@StefanMalloch5 жыл бұрын
Nailed it. They wouldn't replace mine because they said there were none available. I hate the idea of consumers getting different treatment than anyone else which is why I buy almost everything I review myself. Having come right from the manufacturer, the review and results may have been different. I did give them a chance to fix the issue thought.

I dont know man if you get me! But im really strugle bitween them and i dont have the luxury to tried them before i buy...

Kosta i am thinking of buying the 24-105 or the sigma 24-70. I also have the a7 iii. I think i will go for the sony 24-105 because i want that extra mm reach and because i think although you loose 1 stop you have that extra stabilization on the lens. Also it is less heavier lens, has 77mm instead of 82mm so cheaper filters. As for sharpness i believe 24-105 is sharp enough for the a7 iii (according to reviews). Why you want to sell the tamron? What is your experience on the a7 iii? Finally i trust sony quality control more than sigma's (no problems so far with sony or sigma lenses) but just saying because you don't have the ability to check the lens before you buy

Sony 24-105 f4. All day, every day. Sony cameras image noise is very well controlled up to 5000 ISO in my opinion. Who needs a jittery, slightly faster zoom with less range and more weight? Not me!
@r.powell23514 жыл бұрын
That was my conclusion too. I shoot a lot of industrial which is supposed to look gritty--so anything up to 6400 iso is usable for me. In fact, if I could only choose one lens it would be Sony 24-105. And you know that iso and noise reduction technology is getting better each and every year so the Sony-24-105 will age well.

The image stabilization of Sony 24-105mm f/4 OSS is not as good as other lenses, e.g. 24-70 f/4 Zeiss or Canon zoom lenses. I have better handheld video results on my A7RII IBIS body with my primes like Sony 85mm f/1.8 or Sigma 35mm f/1.4 (both have no stabilization) than with Sony 24-105.
