Vlad Vexler recently said something incredibly uncomfortable, yet it fully explains a great deal. He said that it's not in the US strategic interest to fully support Ukraine, to elucidate and put its weight behind a strategy for Ukrainian victory. I'm a first generation American, born and raised in Europe, and this makes my guts wriggle. He also said that Europe has been essentially dragged into supporting Ukraine by the US. It fits what we're observing. While I readily acknowledge John Sweeney's point about how much the US sucks at regime change and is loath to see russia fall apart, we aren't witnessing cowardice, but appeasement. Not of russia, but of us. What unifies many of our governments' response to russia's war against Ukraine, is that WE, those governments' constituents, give a strong shit about the fate of Ukraine. Our governments are largely providing the support that they do because how WE think about the issue is a factor in our leaders' political survival. There are exceptions, of course. I don't want to throw the Baltic States, Poland under the bus. Nor do I wish to denigrate the actions of the governments of the Netherlands and the UK in the least, but I believe that their level of support is linked directly to how the British and the Dutch feel about the issue. I also believe that a number of leaders outside the countries I mentioned are genuinely motivated to effect victory for Ukraine. However, as distance from russia grows, the inclination to support Ukraine diminishes. This crystallizes something for me. We ALL must double down. We have to stay loud. We have to vote FOR Ukraine in our own countries, at the most granular level possible. And, to inadvertently shill for Jonathan's project, another great way to do that is to support the film he is championing so that the war stays at the forefront of people's attention, energy, and anger.

I'm American and agree with all of this. It was the US that initially stood by Ukraine. There are rumors that the CIA thwarted the blitzkrieg russia attempted on Kiev. Now the US is frustrated that after almost three years Europe itself won't take the lead. It's absolutely ridiculous. This is not in our neighborhood... we're $35 trillion in debt, carrying a $1.8 trillion annual deficit, with a 4.1% unemployment (full employment). WE ARE TAPPED OUT!!! Step the hell up Europe!!!

@tomwende5529Ай бұрын
@@Ira88881 I write and think in paragraphs. Remember that in the first section, I'm paraphrasing Vexler. I'm quite aware of how much worse problems would be if the US hadn't created the security architecture that has existed for so long that we don't remember what the world was like without it. It's what has given us global trade and unprecedented levels of peace. I'm also quite aware of how much the US has helped Ukraine: in nearly equal amount to that of Europe. My point is that democracies get gridlocked during war because politicians look inward, at their constituents, before looking outward at danger. Chunked enough for you?

A point of clarification here. John seemed to think the word slave gave rise to the word Slav. It is the other way around. Some slavs were captured by the Romans and put to work. They distributed these Slavs. It became the term for this class of people in the Roman world. Not all Slavs were slaves, quite the opposite. i think this should be made clear to avoid offence.

I'm not as optimistic about Kamalah making much of a difference for Ua. Just as with Trump as a possibility, the new White House administration will be intensely self-absorbed on the transition for a couple of months (especially because of inevitable disputes over the validity of the vote result), and then on other domestic political issues for the first six months. KH is effectively not going to make any decisions for six months. The difference is that Trump (if elected) will have JD Vance actually running foreign policy (Trump is much more focused on internal US politics), and JDV will take the very expedient and attractive (for him) option of ending support to Ua, then claiming to have saved the US public billions. After six months or so, the voter backlash from the military manufacturing regions will start registering, and the Trump admin might start reconsidering support for Ua - but yes, it will be a grim year for Ua.

Don't underestimate the kind of pressure the US can apply on it's allies... Unfortunately the vast majority of European countries (and NATO) are too dependent on the US, either through trade or military support/dependency. The alliance with the US is nowhere near "equal terms". Europe needs to strengthen the European defensive sector and weapons development and manufacturing industries to become less dependent on the US... Especially given the recent years US domestic political chaos... When someone like Donald Trump can become president (again!?) Europe MUST attempt to reduce the United States influence on European policies etc. In my opinion the US is becoming more and more of a potential wild horse and less of a dependable ally...

Look, before I say this, I want to mention that I was at the event you held at Lyiv a bit over a year ago, and I met both you and Mr Sweeney and shook your hands. I love you both, you are true friends of Ukraine, but I have to push back on something. ,At 16:20, Mr Sweeney says that, "..under the Czars, until they lost the Crimean war, the vast population were not free, they were Serfs...Slav, if I think the etymology is correct, the base word for slave..." - this is complete and utter nonsense. There was even a National Geographic article that peddled this falsehood. It is more commonly agreed with scholars and academics that the word "Slav" came from the world "Slovo", i.e. people of the word. This is because the old slavic word for Germans is "nemtsi" (people who are dumb - unintelligible). In the former Yugoslavia where my ancestors came from the word for Germany is not "Germaniya" like it is in ruzzian, it is "Njemachka", derived from the eastern slavic Kyivan Rus word "nemtsi". When Kyivan Rus fell, my ancestors migrated to the Balkans, -these where the "Beli Horvati" tribe - ("White Croat" tribe). There was also a Red Croats tribe too (hence the red and white checkered flag pf Croatia). In Ukraine the word is also "Nimechchyna". RuZZia is not a good gauge of the historical etymology of our words!!!
@dawnandy7777Ай бұрын

@irongronАй бұрын
@@jonson856 Indeed, I think you might be right, also in slavic, the word for slav is "slovyanski", when it got transliterated to English is ends up "slavic", so the etymology gets confused with the way it ended up in English somehow. Slovenia and Slovakia get their names from the root for Slovyanski etc. But I think it's Greek or Latin that used "Sclaveni" and aslo in old times Serbia was "Servia" with a v, which maybe relates to that root word you mentioned.

I can't express how disappointed I am in your decision to raise awareness and money for such an important issue through a film based on a sport that is inherently cruel to animals. Ukranian's lives belong to them and nobody else. The same is true of dogs. Very sad about this.

Sweeney. The so-called journalist who was given the boot by the BBC after his failed attempt to expose T0mmy R0binson back-fired miserably.

I’m tired of hearing countries in Europe cry that they are smaller than the US and “don’t have the money” WHEN THE US CONTRIBUTES 3% TO NATO it means Rhode Island and New Hampshire contribute 3% to NATO - both much smaller than UK

Joe at this point is too senile to stand for anything. Don't know why he didn't stand down 6 months ago and turn over control to Harris, at least the world would know what metal she is made of.

With HEAVY HEART I agree with JOHN SWEENEY that THE ALLIANCE OF THE WEAK(the West) IS ALLOWING UKRAINE TO BLEED TO DEATH. This makes me so sad. :( I thank you both for all your work for Ukraine!!!

Thank you for this channel. This is a silly request, but could you have someone fix the mysterious black spot that eats into your left shoulder in a rather distressing way. Thanks.

I've made this precise arguments, even as far as the barbarism of FAEs, but not nearly so eloquently or as convincingly, and usually to the audience being my dog. Great analysis, spot on, I'm going to be following John Sweeney for sure, just great.

The documentary sounds amazing. I’m in! And I hope my participation of the project will encourage some of my friends to watch it. I think Americas nuclear fears are actually cover for the fact that the us way way way over spends on its military and that it has used the soviet(Russian) nuclear threat as its excuse to hand so much money over to military contractors. I doubt Russian nukes are a threat to anyone due to Putin’s corruption. But our contractors are not about to let that be understood by our citizens who pay billions to maintain and upgrade our nuclear arsenal. Almost as egregious as that is the fact that the weapons dismantlers here don’t want to divert old stocks to Ukrain and miss out on their lucrative dismantling fees! Yeah we have a major corruption problem here that is almost the opposite of Putins Russia. I could go on but I’ll stop there 💙💙💙🌊🌊🌊🏄♀️🏄♂️
