@@margueritebozeman5418 A fast blink usually indicates a lower than normal resistance to ground at the output of the flasher on the affected side. That causes higher current and the flasher will sense that. If you haven't already done so, check those little marker lights also on that side as they sometimes flash with the main signal light. One of those might be shorted or you might have a pinched wire or a short in a socket on that side. If you move a wire while it's blinking and the flashing changes frequency, that's a good sign you're near the problem. Another thing you could do is to disconnect the battery and take out the flasher. Make sure the signal lever is in the center position. Then remove one right and one left rear signal light bulb. Next take an ohmmeter and measure the resistance from one terminal to the other on the left bulb socket and then check it the same way on the other side. They should read the same. If they do, the problem is probably not in the bulbs or wiring. Before you replace the bulbs, do the same measurements again after reinstalling the flasher. If the readings are different between the two sides, you probably have a bad flasher.

Husband had the same issue was slightly worse than the problem you showed. He followed your guidance and was able to replace the relay in about 15-20 minutes. The relay didnt want to come out otherwise was extremely straightforward. Video was extremely helpful. Keep up the good work. His truck is a 2003 silverado 2500HD CC/LB

You are right about this part. And to save your viewers extra time, money, and grief, they should read this comment completely. First, don't waste your money on a Haynes repair manual if don't have one already. They're worthless. They just tell you that "the type of combination flasher unit used on the covered models has complex internal circuitry, and can't be tested using standard electrical test equipment. Refer to the wiring diagrams at the end of this Chapter and test the circuitry before replacing the flasher with a known-good unit." I'm guessing Chilton's would be about the same. Basically, what they are saying is, "You're too dumb to fix anything more complicated than a shot light bulb or a blown fuse." And to assure that you DON'T find the problem, they give you an incomplete diagram. Oh, they show you the switches and fuses, but half, if not all, of the wire colors are wrong. And you will NOT see anything more of the flasher unit other than a rectangle with 4 wires going to it. The contacts of the relays inside it ( "simple" circuitry) are not shown, even though the relays are the switching elements that turn the light current on and off. That means that Haynes has replaced the relay contacts with straight lines in their diagram as if the driver is going to sit there, with nothing else to do, and toggle the turn signal switch on and off the whole time he's turning. No, the real story here is that Haynes, most likely on behalf of their benefactor GM, has hidden this information from you to prevent your knowing that, even with it's "complex internal circuitry," this flasher STILL has SIMPLE relays inside that you can check with two pieces of standard visual electrical test equipment -- your own eyeballs! So just pull that sucker out, remove the cover, and look at the "normally open" relay contacts. The cover comes off easily with the help of a small flat blade screwdriver. There will be 3 relays inside -- 2 small ones for the right and left signal section and 1 bigger one for the hazard flasher section. The little ones are usually the first to go. If you close a relay manually, you can see the normally closed contacts on the opposite side of the part that moves. Compare that to the normally open contacts. On a bad flasher, you will see that the NO contacts are all pitted out and may even be welded together, as opposed to the smooth, shiny, NC contacts on the opposite side. Second, don't throw money away by replacing the turn signal switch first. That's probably what Haynes and GM want you to do, but your could buy your kid a bicycle with that, especially if you add the cost of a worthless Haynes manual to it. Third, time and grief. Don't even waste time tearing down a lot of stuff and troubleshooting wiring and all that crap, because A. The Haynes wiring diagram is DELIBERATELY wrong and so are the wire colors on it, and B. All you need to remove is the instrument cluster bezel, the "knee bolster" (that plastic cover below the steering column), and the bad flasher. The cover has 2 screws at the bottom and two metal clips that take about a ton of pressure to remove at the top, it seems. GM wants you to break the plastic cover, so they use these. Be careful. You can wiggle the flasher back and forth with both hands til it gives up and comes out. Good luck! I'm speaking from experience with my 2003 Silverado. By the way, Advance Auto Parts sells a replacement unit with 30 amp contacts, but I suggest ordering it a few days early since they don't stock them in the stores. These are better for use with a trailer, but lo and behold, another conspiracy to sell more parts! The best they sell without ordering and waiting has 20 amp contacts, so they won't last as long! But since I don't have time to wait right now, I have to go get one of those crappy ones today. 😠

+1 on Haynes being a waste of time. Between today's KZbin and if needed a factory manual (pays for itself first time you avoid a dealer visit) can do about everything. PS> My blinker blinks all 4 lights, not sure what is the problem but thinking since bulbs are OK I'd start there with this thing.

@@lewis2553 Problem on 02 Avalanche was not the module you had trouble with (the 02 doesn't actually use that part your video references when I dug into it, its a cube shaped old school type) it was the rear lighting electrical hub thing that connects 4 connectors and mounts to body behind RR wheel. Tough location. Moisture had gotten inside of the connector on the bottom center connector, causing corrosion. The corrosion built up enough that it created a bridge of corrosion between two of the bottom most terminals, which allowed both sides to illuminate some when one side directional indictor blinker or the other was turned on. I was able to use compressed air and wd40, a pointy poker to scrape the female plug out. A corroded end of the connector broke off, but it is now working. Will look for that short harness section perhaps at salvage yard in future.

Great instructions on removal and which replacement module to get, one suggestion for anyone having a problem removing the flasher module is to use a large channel lock and open them fully and grab the top and bottom of the unit from the front for better leverage. 20 minutes of trying to get it out by hand and did not move, 30 seconds with the channel locks. Mine was so tight in their, it did not want to budge.

2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 2WD part LM487 at AutoZone. This was expensive for me $77.00before taxes. It totally worked!!! My right turn signal made no noise and no flash but my left side worked. I changed bulbs and fuses none that worked. My neighbor told me about this part thats behind the fuse box i was not aware. I Went KZbin and seen this video. 💯💯💯👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

That is what I miss about those trucks; replacing a flasher unit, instead of the flash rate controlled by the BCM now. By what you did here, you can add LEDs without installing a resistor per turn signal unit.

My relay is acting up too. Tried to located by sound, and was guessing left side behind the panel. Oh god I thought, that's going to be a bit#$ to get to. had the same problem. 2003 gmc yukon. i finally came across your video today & replaced the hazard/turn relay. there are certain times & places on my daily commute that left blinker always failed me; i could bet money on it. we will see what she does on Monday! i opted for the $30 non-LED compatible from NAPA Auto since my truck is bone stock. can’t believe this part goes for $75 at most places - that’s just ridic! even $30 is expensive for a 6-prong relay module i wish i would have done/seen this before i had to pick & pull the turn signal switch and replace it with mine. that was not simple as it looked and set me back a week. all for nothing haha

I had same problem with my 04 Silverado, went fine just like video until I tried to reinstall the lower panel and it wouldn't snap in place. I figured out the metal clip came off the plastic tab by noticing the right tab had a clip but the left didn't. Found the clip on floor, stuck it on, snapped in place fine.

I would check the fuse for turn signal first and change the relay if its not the fuse.If its the turn signal lever,its a lot more expensive than the relay. Good luck and keep us updated so it will help others with the same issue. Cheers.

Just fixed my turn signals on my 2002 chevy silverado 1500 you should remind People that there is a fuse panel on the left Side by the drivers side on the opposite sides of the door.looked at the turn signals Fuse and it was blown, you should look at these fuses before you buy the the flasher Relay, the fuse cost 3 bucks and wala it Was fixed!

It all depends on "what is your flasher problem". If they are not working on both side,the fuse maybe the cause. If working on one side only or intermittent,its not the fuse. But thanks for reminding us,thanks for watching.

There is good chance that the answer is YES. Check if the relay is at the same place !

I did not try the hazard flasher when i had problems but could be that flasher relay !

Have you check all your brake bulb ligths ? Check fuses if all brake ligths dont come on. I know that there is a switch under the brake pedal that makes brake ligths to come on,maybe its that switch !

My turn signals work good but the left side signal flashes to much when you put it, I already changed the light bulb from the back that was bad and it’s the same problem with the new one. Everything else is okay just that part with the signal that not even with a new bulb does it stop flashing. Does somebody have any advice? Or any idea how to fix it ?

I would check the fuse.If both signal are not working it could be the signal lever !

I think I have the same problem, but I have the turn signal mirrors.. but only the left side burns the fuse not the right side.. those anyone know what it could be?

If jts burning the fuse,its because you have a short circuit somewhere in your left side...

All your blinker are fast or just one side ?

obscur156 all of them. I work at Napa and I got the LM487 that said its LED compatible but I am installing another tomorrow as sometimes they come defective

you need to install load resistors on each side the led lights are on

Probably a multiple relay … the two pins on the bottom should be the actual flasher IMAO

I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado I took the original relay out an put a new one in but it wasn’t novita. An now my signal lights or my 4way flashers will not work I also have have LED lights on my truck does anybody know why ?

The original Gm relay was in there so I tried to replace it with a new one but didn’t have novita on it an when I did signal lights didn’t come back on I took that one out an tried putting the Gm back in still didn’t work so I’m confused now.

I’ve figure out the problem why my signal lights an 4way hazard was blow out. I bought the Novita Flasher Relay an change my fuse it works amazing now. if anyone have this issue check your fuse panel inside the one by driver side door it’s “fuse number “25” that was blow out for me that controls your signal lights an 4way hazards

I guess maybe you have a faulty flasher lever or when you use your right turn signal ,you may be pulling or pushing at the same time and your bright lights comes on. Just guessing here.Thanks for watching,best regards.

at first i thought i might be pulling or pushing it also, so i started paying more attention when i used it, but that wasn't it so now when i turn right i just hold my linker arm up just enough for the blinker to start blinking while i turn but that is getting annoying lol thank you for your rapid response
