Hi was wondering what classifies as Southern Sierra Opener? Thanks your videos are great!!
@TroutWest4 жыл бұрын
March 1 marks the opener of the Southern Sierra trout season. In addition to the open year-round waters, the small streams on the west side of U.S. Highway 395, flowing east from the Sierra from Independence Creek south, are on the angling agenda with stocked CDFW rainbows the target. The same day, the Lone Pine Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual Southern Inyo Early Opener Trout Derby headquartered at Diaz Lake. Local waters are primed with stocked rainbows, with the lake water receiving a bonus plant of heavyweight Alpers rainbows.

Irvine Lake is being described by OG anglers there as a tiny, dirty, cess pool that has not got stocked in some time (as of 2 months or so ago). Call the marina (ha!) store first to possibly save yourself a lot of wasted time and effort.

Wow what a nice bite! It was great to see you slaying em on spoons. You guys know what your doing question how many fish do you keep and what's the best way to dispatch a fish. stay safe and tight lines.
@TroutWest5 жыл бұрын
You can keep 5 trout at this lake... We didn't keep anything they all went back in this day. The best way to dispatch a trout as by whacking him in the back of the head. The top of their head basically. Others will chop their head off.. some will tell you that cutting it in a way that lets it bleed out... By cutting the throat area below the Gill plate. If you're going to eat them the best thing to do is probably cut the Gill plate... Or just knock them out so they don't swim around and bruised up the meat... Plus it's a little more humane.

Silverwood is an amazing place to float tube.... Cleghorn is perfect for it... miller is great too but you have to hike your tube about a mile before you put in. Typically this time of year you don't need to tube to get into fish, but in the summer you will definitely still find trout that way.

Also tried bobber, no luck. I just chucked it past the shallow with a Carolina rig, felt like it was my only option. Still went home without a catch. 🤷♂️

@TroutWest5 жыл бұрын
@@OfficialParkit while some of the videos look super easy...there's also a lot of experience and time spent on these lakes... I have fished these lakes for many years.. There were several people fishing right next to us then didn't catch a thing. my best advice is trust in your own abilities and don't worry about what other people are doing. Focus on fishing the stuff you are using properly.. make the most of the tackle. They're very subtle things like reeling speed casting distance... Pausing after a missed bite. Slowing down to let the fish Chase. On and on there are a lot of variables but don't be discouraged at all. I guarantee of you stay with it you will pick it up. the days that you do catch that's the day that you want to experiment so you learn how to use other things. make sure you stop in on the meet-up we are going to have in the future we will be more than willing to pass on what we know there also .
