Bahasa Indonesia and Urdu are two languages from different families which happen to have a lot of common vocabulary through Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, and a few other languages. This language challenge will be between Ayesha, an Urdu speaker from Lahore, Pakistan, and Monica, an Indonesian speaker from Jakarta, Indonesia.
If you live in Toronto or the surrounding areas, speak a language that has not been featured on our channel and would like to participate in a future video, and/or if you have any suggestions or feedback, please contact us on Instagram:

Bahador (@BahadorAlast): / bahadoralast
Modern Standard Urdu is a Persianized and standardised register language of the Hindustani language. It is the official national language and lingua franca of Pakistan. In India, it is one of the official languages recognized in the Constitution of India, having official status in the five states of Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand, as well as the national capital territory of Delhi.
Indonesian (bahasa Indonesia) is an Austronesian language, a standardized register of Malay and the official language of Indonesia. Indonesia is a multi-lingual country and most Indonesians speak another language, however, the Indonesian language is used as a lingua franca. Indonesian is also recognized as minority language in East Timor. The Indonesian language has been influenced by many other languages, including Dutch, English, Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese, Sanskrit, Tamil, Hindi, and Persian. This is the reason why it shares a lot of common vocabulary with other languages from different family groups.

I changed the intro a bit to supplement that, so let me know what you guys think. I am trying to make it more obvious that we are from Toronto! So many similarities with Turkish 😳🇹🇷.. we also use “ruh” for spirit👻 “hazir” for present/ready “maksat” for intention, but “niyet” is also common “tufan” for flood (also a very common masculine given name), but “sel bastı” is also used🌊 “tertib” is also a word in Ottoman Turkish for sequence/orderly, but “sıralama/dizme”is used much more in modern day Turkey. Grapes is totally different, as it is called “üzüm” in Turkish 🍇 We use the word “takdir” for appreciation. For fate/destiny we use “kader/kısmet” “İlim” is commonly used for knowledge, but “bilgi” is more populair 📚 “Veli” is sometimes used for guardian, but much more common are “gardiyan/koruyucu”💂🏼‍♂️ “Fayda” means benefit, but “yarar/menfaat/çıkar” are also used for benefit/profit♻️ “Yetim” is used for orphan (some people use öksüz) 👶🏻 “Sabır” for patience 🕐

We have almost all those words in Turkish: ruh -> soul/spirit hazır -> ready maksat -> purpose tûfan -> storm tertip -> sequence/order takdir -> appreciation (odd one, since "kader" means destiny and "takdir" is appreciation or deeming) fayda -> benefit yetim -> orphan sabır -> patience Great video as usual...

Most of these words have Arabic roots as ruhروح, haderحاضر, maqsid مقصد, tufan طوفان, tarteeb ترتيب, takdeer تقدير, elm علم, wali والي, fayda فائدة, yatim يتيم, sabr صبر, lezat لذة I found that sometimes the p is pronounced f and the v is pronounced w and the d is pronounced z and vice versa in many languages like Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi, Turkish, Urdu, etc. I really like your videos good luck

Keep up the good job!

@@SantomPh btw there is another word also indexed in Indonesian dictionary: taifun. So, Indonesian has 3 variant words from the same root: topan, taufan, and taifun. Though, "topan" is the standard one. Badai is the native Malay origin, and sometimes interchangeably used with topan also. Idk how Malay speaker preferably use those words in daily conversation...
