I just want to say thanks for making great videos. With other drum reviews/info, I find myself clicking around the video trying to find information because they talk about nothing for 3 minutes, talk about their opinions without giving facts, and then ramble on about nothing. With your videos, you say what's important and you're to the point. What you have to say is important to the review without being boring/unimportant/unnecessary. Thanks for the great content.

7:14 - Haha, this is where I come in. I play electric drums. I am also an self proclaimed 'audiophile' where I am critical about sound quality, especially in live performance. There isn't a speaker that is commercially produced that gives drummers high quality without having to buy a complete JBL multi-component system. I managed to do it. Building two cabinets the size of most Peavy and JBL cabinets, I configured a custom that would satisfy even the most critical drummer or sound engineer. Addressing this video and the Simmons products, this was an honest, spot-on opinion of something any drummer can go out and buy, and have it be a decent product. I like how you compiled the comparisons, it was EZ and relatable.

I have a pair of the 12" version and I love them. I got lucky though, I bought an electronic set and one Simmons speaker. Musicians Friend screwed me over on the delivery time over and over, so eventually they made it right by giving me the second amp for no cost. So I got both of them for only $309 total.

They are rebranded Harbingers with a custom front end. The subwoofer is identical with no modifications except a different front grill. If you like the Harbinger sound this is what you'll get. Similarly the Alesis are rebranded Altos

The fact that you have a full drum kit, multiple amps and stacks of other drums basically all around you in there makes it HUGE by Brooklyn standards, haha. This review is pretty spot on. The 8 inch speaker version is pretty mediocre. I bought one, played it for about 10 minutes. Then, boxed it back up and returned it for another Headrush FRFR 108 which is about 30 dollars more, but so much better quality.

A couple questions - do all 3 have the sub out? If you use the sub out does it completely cut the low from the simmons speaker? If so, would that allow for more volume to the other frequencies?

The flagship speakers headphone Out selector is a useful feature. But you made no mention for the reason for the headphone out selection. I believe that the selection is when the a click track is used. So that only the headphone output and not the main output will have the click track.

I just got the DA2112 included with a used set of Alesis Surge drums. I am not sure if it has enough push for a small gig or not. Overall he is dead on this description for this amp. It does sound pretty good but I still find myself having trouble from keeping it clipping. ( Yes I know,,back the low freqs off ) I think the secret here is to run two of these for a small live gig performance of which I will probably do that even if my kit never sees the light of day. Life long acoustic drummer I am. Bought this set up for home practice in the first place which is great! Bottom line just buy the DA2112 and be done with it or buy two. The options by far, are great on the DA2112.

Yo Justin! Glad to see you are making more recent videos. I’ve watched all of your episodes and you helped me narrow down the kit I finally decided on. I picked the VAD506 and paid more for it over the Alesis pro Se after reading reviews about their high hat problems. Sure enough when I went to guitar center and played it, the high hat was totally mis-triggering and that was it for me! So now I need a speaker and this video is perfect for my scenario. Just one important thing has been really annoying about the Td27 module I have has Bluetooth but I found out it’s *IN ONLY! So frustrating this is the case right? So these Bluetooth speakers won’t play the sounds from the drums wireless and only via a cord I guess? Is there a way to get the Bluetooth to work going “out?” Thanks man, Brian

I have a 2020 alesis strike pro se Guitar Center is not the place to test Edrums for sure. They have no seriously trained tech guys like Sweetwater music would in Indiana. Heck I went in today to look at a Simmons amp and they hand cables wrapped up horribly around mic stands and cymbals not firing at all and the mixer board completely peaked put. So you got a horrible demo I'm positive by some high school kid or close. He probably had no more than 2 month work experience there. My kit plus Hihat is spot on I read my directions.

We are a company in Sydney, AU - looking at release of genuinely new product in about 3-5 months. I believe we have solved a lot of this mess - particularly for smaller venues and where the drummer can do without a huge LUG. I sat about 7 feet from a K2.12 at a Lebanese wedding 3 weeks ago....sweet sound, but cut my ears off! We've gone a very different way with driver and material selection and put much R & D into crossovers and amp selection. I hope we can add something useful to this whole conversation, but you are dead-on. Most e-drummers pay what, USD $4,000 to $6000, plus miles of research - then expect a plastic wedge from a Chinese factory bring it all together? Cheers.

What module you using? Quite a few modules have very good individual pad EQ now, I bought the Yamaha DTX-6 which has 4 band SWEEPABLE EQ per pad - this is where you can really get your sounds to shine. The end of chain speaker EQ is pretty broad and agricultural. Pad EQ will drop to lower price modules over time.

I bought the same set and love them, mine do double duty as well. I put them both on a box with an industrial lazy Susan, and that way I can just spin them round for playing and back the other way at my desk when they're used as stereo/computer speakers, it's perfect, very easy to point them where you want. I spin them right round right round right. Oh I am sorry for that last part.

Hey Justin thanks, as always, for the great videos. I got 1 DA2112 to try out and it does not seem very loud at all. I mean its loud enough at home when practicing but live (just a small party in my back yard)....I have to max it out to get anything and cover the tapping sound on my pads. It just seems weak to me...maybe I'm missing something. I thought, well I better get a second one and a sub woofer if I'm going to take this into clubs or events. I'm just worried I'll sink more into these and not get quite what I want. Is there a way these can be amplified more? Will a 2nd one with a sub woofer improve the volume/power? I don't need anything super powerful but it does need to hold up to at least my club gigs. Thoughts or suggestions would be very helpful in making my next move. @@codersexpo1580 I've still gotta do more research about this speaker because when my phone is hooked up to it via bluetooth it plays songs or audio incredibly loud. So loud that if i have the master volume on the 2112 all the way up I only need to have my phone at volume level 1 or 2 and its loud enough to enjoy ( anything higher than 2 is too loud). its weird to me that I don't seem to get that same level of audio running the Titan 70 through it. I wondering If i need to run a certain type of instrument cable through it to make it louder but idk that seems like you shouldn't have to do that. Just a thought of a video that may make 🤔 a lot of views. I just upgraded from a TD-3 that slowly evolved into a real set for adding easy drum tracks in video production of live music and dance 💃. Well, hoping to expand the inputs of the new TD-27 for the extra rototoms, cowbell-wood and extra three zone cymbals. I was about to make splitters to expand off the Tom's for the rototoms but thought about getting a Ddrum DDTI and going midi through the TD-27. Anyways, using audio from the TD-3 is not what works for MIDI into Abelton Studio. Is there a better option to expand the inputs through the TD-27? $170 for the DDTI. Thanks.

@@matenorth Yes, I am using the TD-3 as the off the rim channels of the four Toms the fourth being auxiliary #1 of the TD-27. My complaint was I thought I did an exhaustive research before getting the TD-27 and somehow I got mixed up thinking it's inputs could be expanded with a second module. 😳 I was so sure I knew what I decided I was surprised that I was so lost in the point of only having twelve inputs. I have seemed to gain one to 13 by using the Hihat one from the TD-3 with the right midi note assigned. I assigned five inputs from the 3 to the 27. So, I have the snare, kick, hihat, 4 toms, 3 rototoms, three crashes and 2 three zone rides. Some trickery to make it work. Not, 100% but, with a foot switch I have it working.

@@matenorth What started this was a live video of a preformed music that the person did not keep tempo from beginning to end of the original track music so, the idea was to dub in a drum and bass track with the video. In the end, I went from a TD-3 to a TD-27. The project is still all buggy but I have a better module. I was using the TD-3 with USB into Abelton 10 Studio and the little I used it as a MIDI controller for drums, along with my Aturia Keylab to make some background tracks for videos but, it's all escalated into less latency and stuff, so the new module. I think it was a an excuse to get a better drum setup so I would have to become better at drumming? Heck, sometimes I wonder...... Anyways, I wanted all the inputs to be the same TD-27 sounds, latency not two modules playing VST's through Abelton. The idea was to play along with the prerecorded track that didn't keep time. It was recorded at the beach with five video cameras going and we are not going to redo the shoot. So I got this not so bright idea of fixing the sound to go with the video.

Hey man, got a question for you. I’ve been playing acoustic drums for about 20 years but I don’t know shit about electric drums. I want to buy one so I don’t cause my neighbors to conspire against me lol. If you had a budget of around 3k, maybe slightly more, what current electric kit would you buy? Thanks!

Alesis strike pro se from Sweetwater music they throw in a few freebees too. Kits just under $2700. Been jamming mine since Chistmas having a blast.love the Tom's, very deep. Snare's are snappy base drum responds like an acoustic beast. Read up on it the drumkits are awesome I find something new everytime I go in.

@@tbublz I’m about to buy the Strike Pro SE. Can you the drums like you would an acoustic kit? So basically, if a snare was too low pitched on a set, could a tune it higher? I can’t find any info on this online

I also think Bluetooth is overrated as a feature. I invested about 10€ in a Bluetooth transmitter and my td17 was upgraded.

@65 Drums You mentioned it was "mid" in terms of quality, not pro... what is an example of "pro" ? Thanks

I used to work at the stage hand in the concert industry. So when I say “pro”, I’m talking about touring industry level brands like Meyer. Mid level brands are like JBL

@@65Drums Thanks. I have a hybrid set i want to play live, kereoke style: me along with tunes... so, I'm looking for something that will be loud enough, and deep enough to go along with the acoustic aspect of the kit... is a Mackie thump with a 15" woofer a bad direction? I'd prefer to spend 3-times that, if the upgrade was sick.

Yeah a Mackie thump or two would be fine for that.

Does these amps and speakers work with acoustic drums? Everything is talking about electronic drums It’s like no one is talking about how to amplify acoustic drums 90% of the people I hang around don’t play electric drums. We play acoustic drums. 8:28

I have ZERO confidence in anything with the Simmons name on it lately. Have you EVER played a Simmons kit where all the triggers operated smoothly and as expected? So much hot spotting, intermittence or just plain old DYING after a few hours of use. Also, Simmons is now owned by the holding company (Ares Management) that owns now bankrupt Guitar Center, so I see that whole distribution/manufacturing channel going away sooner or later. I think Behringer makes the Simmonds drum aps.

Roland kits don't sound great on them. I actually think the older Simmons amps are significantly better. Much louder and clearer.
