Oops, I left a clip in that wasn't supposed to be in there. Sorry you had to watch me fumble around in my kitchen between 21:28 and 21:59... In other news... what did you think of the video? My skateboarding is rusty as heck, but my cooking skills are FIRE! 🔥. ** Also it appears that I WAS wrong about the thyroid being the only tissue in the body to utilize iodine. It is definitely important regardless.

Hi from North Carolina! You are such a big inspiration for my 16 y/o son and myself. He is dealing with autoimmune issues (severe eczema and alopecia). We went vegan about 6 months after consulting with a MD who does nutrition for autoimmune disorders. I was worried he would loose too much weight. But he has maintained his weight and his blood tests are improving for certain markers. We use chia and flax daily. I will grind them from now on. Thanks so much.

Thought I'd fill you in on my 3+ year cholesterol and glucose journey. Hope it is helpful to someone out there. 6 months ago had been on a healthy meat diet, 3200 calories (lean bulk), with tons of veggies, and some fruit, and grains: TOTAL CHOL 222, HDL 73, LDL 138, TRIGS 53, FASTING GLUCOSE 103. Then tried Keto diet for 8 weeks, 3200 cal, high fat, low carb, moderate protein, lots of veggies: TOTAL CHOL 291, HDL 57, LDL 222, VLDL 12, TRIGS 61, FASTING GLUCOSE 95. YIKES! Then tried Vegan for 6 weeks, 3200 cal, with very high carbs from fruits, legumes, and grains, moderate protein, and relatively low fat(30-60g/day), but almost zero sat fat, plus almost zero oils, and almost zero processed sugar, lots of veggies: TOTAL CHOL 138, HDL 53, LDL 72, VLDL 8, FASTING GLUCOSE 83. (All values mg/dL) In just 6 weeks! Unreal! Still making strength and stamina gains, and sleeping better. Guess I was a hyper-responder to high fat and didn't realize it till now. Thank you for the invaluable help, Derek! I am beyond ecstatic and relieved.

but how can that be when all the recent studies prove cholesterol in food has 0 effect on our total cholesterol? (sarcasm) Glad it's working for you! :)
@7joshallen76 жыл бұрын
Well, I actually think that is true. Dietary "cholesterol" intake doesn't seem to affect blood cholesterol levels very much. The real culprit seems to be saturated fat raising blood cholesterol levels, which was the case with me. Consuming eggs shouldn't raise cholesterol levels too much even though they are high in cholesterol, since they are relatively low in saturated fat. That being said, I'm sticking to a full vegan diet for the foreseeable future since it's working so well for me. Thank you!

Hi Derek, love your videos you bring a lot of fun to meal prep and nutrition. I wanted to give you just a little feedback from someone who changed to whole foods (nothing refined) vegan foods over 25 years ago. I used a lot of soy in my meals & smoothies & 15 years ago I was diagnosed and treated for stage 4 breast cancer, I'm not holding the soy 100% responsible but it was a contributing factor. Do some research on it. The other thing I want to mention is that when you heat miso to simmer or boil you kill the enzymes ... add it at the end of you preparation by just mixing a little of your finished broth with your miso, whisk it up and then add to the slightly cooled finished sauce. Thanks for your entertaining and inspiring videos. Crystal is a definite positive addition as is your sweet cat. By the way I grew up in Parksvile, so nice to see shots of the beach.

To add to this as a child my parents didn't believe in putting me in the back seat in a car seat so I was always on my mother's lap I ended up breaking 3 windshields from my Dads cars when he will suddenly hit the breaks. Hi Derek! Love your beautiful cat! You are inspiring , love your videos! Been vegan for 11 years. Things get boring so I’m glad to have inspiration like you to help get more vegetables in my diet! Oh yea we had your kale salad tonight for the first time and it was really good! Thanks!

Before you even mentioned people who have to work/can’t prepare their meals right before they eat, I was going to comment about possibly making a video about meal-prepping or batch making things so it could be ready for the work week! Love your videos!

I learn a lot from you (salad dressings! I always just added salt, lemon and olive oil) and you inspire me to eat healthy. I’m not vegan (husband likes meat) but I like eating healthy and would like to mostly eat vegan.

I can't make Vegfest but I met you at the last Vegfest. For anybody who hasn't been before there WILL be a queue to chat with Guru Simnett so be prepared! (well worth it of course!)

Another one! Well done. No need to sit in slime bro. Your views are growing by the day.. you deserve it.

Haha, funny I actually talked about that in this video but had to cut it in the best interest of time.... or slime?

I struggle with the meal portions that men are allowed to eat. I’m extremely jealous!! I’m a 49 year old woman who has always been healthy... but if I ate the amount of food he does... I’d gain weight so quickly! Even if I was hiking the Himalayas on a daily basis while intermittent fasting. 🤣 I am impressed with your videos. Keep it up! 👍🏻
