Seriously man, your videos are absolute gold, keep spreading the positivity and knowledge and all the best to you and Crystal in the future! Also, just to clear up the confusion regarding the yams, for the most part the potatoes labeled “yams” sold in the United States (and I assume Canada) are not yams, but a softer variety of sweet potato. Real yams, grown in Africa and Asia, are actually completely unrelated to sweet potatoes and have dark skin and usually white flesh.

my dude, I gotta say, you've been an inspiration. been watching your vids for a little over a month now. been vegan nearly 5 years now. I get the impression that your videos are focused on trying to motivate/help/advise/mentor(?) either newly converted vegans or trying to entice people to convert (nothing wrong with that at all, of course!) but might be nice for you to know that you're also helping medium-to-long term vegans reinvent their meals and lifestyle choices. feeling reaffirmed in my veganism. thanks bro and keep up the amazing work! subscribed! I think we could all pretty much watch you cook all day! :) Question: when you guys go to the grocery store, do you usually get pretty much the same things each time or do you always vary it? And do you shop for recipes or for just winging it at each meal? You know, if you're thinking about doing another one, I seem to be unable to get enough of a good grocery haul video. Such a weird addiction! Thanks for another great one, man.
@Simnettnutrition6 жыл бұрын
We are at the point where we buy pretty much the same thing. We live in Canada and there is not a huge variety of vegan foods, meaning new things to try (faux meats, cheese, that kind of thing). We also don't live near a whole foods, so we shop mostly at Superstore and Costco and a health food store local to us. We may try something new if we see it, but we stay to mostly whole foods, which means we pretty much buy the same thing every trip haha we buy bulk groceries and do not meal/recipe plan, we just get what we need and make the meals we feel like having. We used to make larger dinners and save the leftovers for our work lunches but never recipe planned.

We got an Instant Pot on sale for $90 (a mid range model). Since then have never bought canned beans again. You can go from dried to cooked in about 20-30mins depending on which bean. If you overnight soak it's about 6-8mins cooking time. I'll batch cook 2 cups of dried beans and have enough to cook 2+ family meals. Plus it can do all kinds of other things. We also heavily use the overnight timer to wake up to cooked steel cut oats on mornings we have to be out the door early. If your a mass bean consumer, it's such a worthy investment and time saver. Suss them out (Amazon / Canadian Tire etc...) and get them on sale! Nice video Derek and thanks for the freebie ebook!!

Hi man... Thank you very much for yours advices... I'm doing my transition to vegan diet at least on weekends 😬😬, cause I'm trying to doing gradually.. Derek, totally love and appreciate your channel, it has been a vegan-lifesaver at times! I have a question about this vid, you said the tempeh didn't need cooking, but when I have made tempeh the instructions were to make sure it is cooked to kill the Rhizopus mould, which could be harmful. Do you know anything about this? Maybe it's homemade tempeh vs store bought, but certainly wouldn't like people to get stomach upsets. Much appreciation for your steadiness and consistency within the V-community! K

My grocery has yams and sweet potatoes right beside each other so that they overlap and there is no clue which one is which. Do yams, sweet potatoes and Japanese yams all taste pretty much the same? Also, Dr Greger says more nutrition is retained when you boil the sweet potatoes instead of baking them.
@Simnettnutrition6 жыл бұрын
Dr. Greger can shut it! HAah, joking, he is correct and amazing! It's a gentler way to cook them, but you've gotta have some fun in life! No, they all have different tastes for sure. Japanese yams are so nice!
