Best way to clean any gun!

I use the purple Simple Green HD. I think the HD stands for heavy duty. Big thing is that it’s safe on metal such as aluminum unlike the regular simple green. I used to us it with an ultra sonic but found it works just as good soaking it in warm/hot water for a little while.

This is why I use the aircraft grade. You have to be extremely careful of what you put on aircraft, and if it's safe for aircraft, then it won't hurt my firearms. You just always have to make sure you dry your parts out, which I do with compressed air, and then I ultrasonic lube now which takes out any left over water. I'll always use ultrasonic cleaning/lubing, it's much faster and better performance at getting all the dirt out of tiny cracks.

Is it necessary to completely take the firearm apart or would it be fine field striped?

Field strip is fine as long as you get all the water out afterwards or displace the water by doing ultrasonic lubrication

I generally remove it just so that I can more easily blow it out with compressed air.

You not worried about residual water? Most of my pieces are steel and I'd be worried about water between the slide and rear iron sight for example.

Nope. I use compressed air to blow everything dry, and I also now have a separate ultrasonic cleaner that I use with just oil and do ultrasonic lubrication that will soak into the metal and push out any water.

What are your thoughts about dipping the parts in WD-40 to remove residual water?

@@lancel7998 I've never used WD-40 so I wouldn't want to give any bad feedback to this question. It seems like it would work for metal parts, or just use the high pressure spray to blast water away.

If you are using an ultrasonic cleaner, buy another and the Lyman water displacement solution that leaves a protective coating after being blow-dried. It's used in an ultrasonic cleaner. Sold at those tool places online and Amazon. With Prime, it's delivered where the tool stores start.

@@Gieszkanne Until you use one, you'll never understand the benefits and how much cleaner you will get the firearm. Also ultrasonic lubrication is superior as well compared to just wiping on lube. Research it.

I've cleaned 37 firearms ultrasonically, maybe more, in the past two Thursdays. The machine is used every day by the other smiths. Staccatos are not strangers to these tanks. For my own, I use Extreme and then Lyman. The gun store uses Infante I believe.
