I always wanted German/British cars but being imports here in the USA, they are expensive if you want to keep one and pay out of pocket. But I am not a fan of GM cars so of course I turned to the Japanese, have owned a 07 Camry, was burning some oil but nothing that checking it every few days and topping off wouldn’t solve. Had 200k miles when I sold it for like 2k. I currently have a 12 Camry SE and it’s been amazing, no issues just normal maintenance, sure it’s a plain Jane family sedan but being single I really enjoy it, feels more like a domestic than let’s say a Cadillac or Chrysler would.

Are Toyotas more reliable? For sure.. I had a 2011 Toyota Camry SE many years ago and sold it after 6 months. I guess I'm the type of person where I need to enjoy the car I'm driving and the rest comes second.

My 2011 Mini Countryman S A/C stopped working randomly one day. Got home and noticed my engine fan also isn't running and there's no coolant circulating... I can't find ANYTHING online that links all those things together. Is it a 1/1,000,000 coincidence chance those all stopped working at the same time? Otherwise I'm leaning towards water pump and/or clogged radiator... but that doesn't explain my A/C. These cars are so frustrating man. If I don't get this figured out I'm done with this thing :\ maybe when I was 18 I had the time and money to constantly play doctor with my car. Too old now don't got time for all that lol

What was the temperature when it was hot ? Was it above 108 Celsius or 226.4 Fahrenheit or below that?

I just got an 2010 mini as well and it's been overheating as well changed the thermostat housing water pump and sensor still over heating also checked for bad heads and that's OK so what else do you think it maybe?
@malp62803 жыл бұрын
check for leaks this example is leaking from the rear right side... that's where the water pump is located & a rear plastic water line transferring water to the thermostat heater pipes are more centrally located & at the rear (I've not watched the upload 100% yet) you need to check for water leaks along the hoses (run your car & feel the pipes getting warm.. this guy checks air inlet hoses "very odd" check on-top of the gearbox (rh side of engine for fluid on top) if so it could be a hose to the thermostat or thermostat &/or gasket (the thermostat is on the rh side rear under the high pressure fuel pump its black plastic with 5-6 hoses going in/out) also check the radiator for leaks next check the underside of the front of the car, as its common for the oil filter housing to leak oil/coolant (yes both run through it) that's usually gasket failures due to heat off the engine, depending what car/model you have it can be either a: a swine to change gaskets b: to total pig (if its a S model ie turbo) finally check put your car heater on & wait til its blowing hot & check all over the front carpet inside the car, thats a common sign the heater core is bad/leaking (total nightmare to sort-out) also check the fans operating properly run the car till its hot 10-15minutes standing still.. if it doesn't operate (the fan) it could be a blown fuse, dodgy relay (cheap to test yourself) or a heater relay thingy (cant remember the proper name) this is located on the engine bay front, back of radiator fan shroud, right hand side about 5-6" down.. look for a small green (under the coolant expansion bottle) a small 1-2" green cylinder thingy, make sure this hasn't failed over time, mine did the cables leading to/from it had corroded so the fan didn't operate, if this is the case its best to buy a new fan/shroud (all one item) complete, very easy to remove/install.

I wonder if the leaks was due to the water pump gasket, or possibly the water pump wasn't pumping coolant.
@SimpleCarGuy3 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it was the water pump gasket that was caught on something and not installed properly. When I take it off, it looks a bit squished and of center. I had the water pump already bought so I replaced the entire thing. I have a full video on replacement if you are interested.

Not sure if you'll see this question, but does your car "smell" like hot, not burnt oil/plastic/coolant after a drive and when you park it in a garage? Just recently bought a Mini with a lot of engine work done on it, $4000 by the ex owner and $4000 by us, technically it is perfectly sound and the work is done by BMW. I thought maybe after all that work and engine clean form the leaks, the smell would go away. But it did not. I used to own a non turbo BMW E92 and it too smelt "HOT" if that makes sense. Never had that with my older Honda, and now Lexus. Is it a BMW thing? My garage smells almost like a mechanics shop after a drive in the Mini. Cheers.
@andreiceban438 Жыл бұрын
Maybe it's because of the oil and other stuff that was leaked out, and did not get a proper clean? And when the engine gets hot all that junk gets hot and make that smell?

Hey man, really enjoyed your videos so far! Definitely gotta subscribe, does an R56 tell its driver that it overheats without the display in the middle? is there a warning light coming on? I‘m thinking about buying one and a kinda worried since it does not have the navigation display!

Yes, it does. You will get a yellow warning light (little picture where your odometer is) when it's getting hot and a red one when it's overheating.

That sounds very strange that it would only do it when you turn right. Doesn't sound like a coolant pump issues, but more like you are very very low on oil or on coolant. Check those first.

Hi, my Mini Cooper engine overheated and can't turn on anymore. My mechanic said to replace the engine, but is there any other options?
@SimpleCarGuy5 жыл бұрын
Sorry about your car. Did the engine overheat once? Was it happening for a while and the car was driven while it was overheating? If it was driven while it was overheated it could have caused a lot of damage and seized the engine (meaning it kind of melted together). If the engine still spins and rotates, then it really depends what the actual issue is. The mechanic should have told you why it needs to be replaced specifically. If you don’t trust him/her, take the car to another mechanic and have them tell you the actual issue. Good luck and let me know what they tell you!

yeah if you ran the car dry of coolant & still drove the car, ultimately you cooked the engine.. if anyone in any car has a coolant leak, pull over & get help.. doing anything else is just plain stupid & could/will lead to costly repairs rather then a simple hose, water pump etc & more coolant..

Hi . I just bought a Minicooper clubman 2009 manual transmission and I just love it ... but I’m learning from it as I go... I see it has a lot of features to work on... but unfortunately I don’t have that digital dashboard on the speedometer since is old model ... my question is... how do I know when in the morning I want to warm up my car ... but I don’t know what’s the temperature... would you know how to find out that ?
@SimpleCarGuy5 жыл бұрын
It is actually not recommended to let the car ‘warm’ up. You want to start driving as soon as the RPM lowers from 1200 to the normal idle of around 750. The only way I can think of getting the coolant/oil temp would be with an OBD2 reader and an app.
