I know right? It is also hard for me to point out what exactly, and the most fitting word might sound silly to some, but i always had the feeling those sets had "Heart". It always felt like: Yes, LEGO is a company, they want to earn money...but they also want to make Kids happy and they love what the do. Modern stuff a lot of times feels cold and emotionless in comparison and build only to earn :( Stay safe.

Me too! I guess the main difference is the ingenuity of the design, back in the days they drew these designs by hand and really had to twist their imagination to make something special. Lego as of today is still cool, but you’re right - there’s something special about these sets from the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s!

His analysis reminds me of how I used to basically “sell” my parents on a given lego set, usually citing such features as minifigure count/exclusivity, play functions, price per part etc., usually by reciting what was featured in the commercial for the given product.

@Hapa Nice Day They would not worry about bankrupcy if they would have CEOs who have at least half a brain, then would higher actual build designers and not cut on said designs and details and lastly not waste money on idiotic oversized builds that brings nothing useful to humanity, quite contrary it creates toxic junk. They always say how they care for the environment yet they spend tons of plastic and glue on big builds that falls apart quite fast anyways for example the real sized Bugatti that doesn't even function as a car nor can be driven at all. Creating toys creates toxic gas that is being released into the air and later when they recycle these idiotic projects of theirs it just further creates those repeated toxic releases and they also lose a percentage of the materials on these melts etc. Companies produce garbage later come up with idiotic excuses like it will change facts and the most pathetic ones are the people who support them in this journey of wastefulness and ignorant idiocy.

There's a couple other things that you would put this over a slot car set or a radio controlled car. Slot cars can be fun but only if there's a second person to race against. Not much fun on your own. Rc cars are best used outside where there's a lot of room to run them. Most homes aren't big enough to run it inside.

Mixing Lego with other toys during play? Now that's something I can relate to! Here are 3 examples from my childhood: - When the first underwater theme came out (you know, with the AquaSharks as 'the baddies'), my friend and I both bought the smal basic vehicle set so we each had a diver to go and explore the sea. To create the scene we used an old Playmobil pirate ship as a wreck at the bottom of the scene with a Lego Pirate treasure chest. The fish swimming around were little Playmobil fish taped under the playing table with sewing thread (on top of that table was our lego city). The lego sharks were not in the scene because we obviously needed those for playing purposes! - The other example was with our Lego knights: we simply used HeroQuest monsters as the villains! So before Lego came out with skeletons, goblins and the likes, we allready invented the concept ourselves! We also used rivets as extra swords to be able to field more knights! - HO scale model trains and tracks were used the represent mining scenes. Off course, we did mix up when playing with other toys too! (A wooden farm house was the perfect size for Playmobil, for instance)

Kids still use their imagination! The other day I had the pleasure of helping a boy make a "monster zoo" out of his living room. Sure, he has like 20 plastic dinosaur, monsters, etc figures, but the actual zoo "enclosures were recruited from any material that could be found. Sadly, we didn't have enough LEGO to do much, but for this scale DUPLO would have done better anyway. So off brand Jenga blocks were recruited, lakes were drawn on construction paper for the aquatic monstrosities. Boxes, markers, whatever was at hand was arranged into fences. The part he was particularly proud of though was a large "door" we affixed to the legs of a chair as an entrance gate. In his mind it was even better than the one that protected the entrance to Jurassic Park!
