Not true. According to Freddie himself, there was nothing personal about that song, that he made it up.
@ChristopherStendeck2 ай бұрын
@@Lisa-qm8qd Do you have a source for this? I can't find any interview in which Freddie says such a thing. The closest I can get is a couple of articles that mention that their former manager John Reid suspected it was written for David Minns, the man Freddie had started seeing behind Mary's back at the time he wrote this in 1975. If Freddie had said this himself, surely this would supercede this second-hand suspicion? Even the official website states it was dedicated to Mary. I really don't think anything otherwise is known for sure.
@Lisa-qm8qd2 ай бұрын
@Ozzpot if youtube would let me share an image I would. It was interview he did years ago for a paper or magazine. I understand people push this narrative about Mary, I don't understand why unless it's just to take away from the fact he was gay. The movie made it worst.
@Lisa-qm8qd2 ай бұрын
@Ozzpot I tried to share the link but it keeps disappearing... I can post the quote though.... "I suppose I do write a lot of sad songs, but that doesn't mean I feel that way myself. I really enjoy writing those songs but, again, there isn't necessarily any connexion between the music and my life. Love of My Life, for instance, I simply made up. There's nothing personal about it. Am I making sense? What I mean is, writing those sad songs makes me happy. To me, they're fun, so it all fits in. I just happen to like that kind of music."

I have been very fortunate to see Queen many times, especially during the mid-1970s. Besides the great show from Freddy, Brian May is an unsung hero of the band. He does not get that much in publicity but definitely recognizable in his contributions as well as John Deacon. Brian May, when he did a guitar solo in concert is so gracious to the audience in which he always thanks the audience while he's doing his solo. Many times, while he's playing and everyone's going crazy, he just bows his head and says thank you so much. As a physicist such as Brian, his contributions are far beyond music. There was an article or story that I heard. I believe where his mentor for astronomy lost the home he was living in and Brian May purchased the home as I understand and the astronomer lived there till his final days. I recommend that you seek music from Brian May in which she does sing. He has one of the best voices in the industry as well.

This song is incredibly different from the studio version. Brian adapted it for the live shows. It really came into it's own when Queen toured South America in the early 80's, in the days before playing stadiums was a thing.. The band were worried about the language barrier and filling a stadium. Imagine their surprise when they sold out every stadium and the people knew all the words to every song. They had also taken Love of my life to their hearts. There is footage online from 1981 or 82, in Sao Paulo I believe, of Love of my life, Freddie barely sings a word as the crowd sing it loudly and full of passion. Freddie is clearly moved and surprised. A beautiful song dedicated to Mary Austin. These days Brian sings this and our dear Freddie joins him virtually on the big screen, also worth watching

I feel blessed and honoured to have seen this man and this band live. I saw them at St. James Park in Newcastle in the 80s. However, much earlier, when I was just 15 or so, my family moved abroad and I earned money babysitting for the other English families also abroad in the same place - there were quite a few. One couple, for whom I did the most work, had every record made by queen up to that point (1982/1983) - Yes now you can calculate my age. This was long before the days of internet or mobile phones, no CDs or MP3s and a TV in a language I didn’t really speak. So I turned to their record collection and found Queen, starting with A Day at the Races, and as a hardened AC/DC fan, I fell in love. Freddy wrote the song with Brian together and it is for Mary Austin, or at least that is the common opinion, also stated by Brian May.

Stacey Brian May is now Dr. Brian May, Ph.D. in Astrophysics. All original members of Queen were students at certain colleges in the UK. They put their studies on hold when Queen became well-known. During a break from touring, Brian went back to school to finish his studies. In order of getting his doctorate, Brian completed his thesis. Freddie was in graphic design, I think. Roger Taylor studied Dentistry. Retired Bassist, John "Deacy" Deacon studied Electronics Engineering. John actually built an amp for Brian May. It is called Deacy Amp. There was a company manufactured versions of Deacy Amps. Freddie, still this day is missed by everyone!

Interesting what you said about missing Freddie (and Brian). I was 19 when he died and had been a Queen fan for a long time; not fanatical at all, but definitely a fan of their music. However, I remember exactly where I was when my brother told me (showed me the front of a newspaper actually) that he'd died and in the years since I do genuinely feel that I 'miss' him, even though I can't really quantify what I mean by that. Obviously artists die all the time but this unusual, shy, flamboyant, funny yet serious powerhouse of talent somehow left a small hole in a part of my life. It's a curious thing. Now, all these years later, it's magical to see him perform again and new fans emerge.

When Freddie Mercury first met Mary Austin, he was 24 years old and she was 19. At the time neither could have imagined what the future would hold for them, both as a couple and singularly as friends with a deep love for each other. “All my lovers asked me why they couldn’t replace Mary, but it’s simply impossible,” Mercury once said of Austin. “The only friend I’ve got is Mary, and I don’t want anybody else. To me, she was my common-law wife. To me, it was a marriage.” When Mercury died in 1991 of AIDS-related bronchial pneumonia at age 45, Austin was by his side as she had been for much of his adult life. At one point in their relationship he had asked her to marry him, and when he died he left her half his reported $75 million estate, including the 28-room London mansion in which he passed away and Austin still lives in to this day. Today Austin lives a quiet life away from the spotlight she often experienced as part of Mercury’s inner circle. The pair lived together on and off for the better part of two decades as Mercury’s profile rose and Queen became one the most beloved rock bands of the twentieth century. And due to the success of Bohemian Rhapsody, Austin is reportedly set to inherit more than $50 million as she now owns 75 percent of his estate. Freddie Mercury and Mary Austin met in 1969, a year before he formed what would become Queen with bandmates Brian May, Roger Taylor, and eventually John Deacon. Mercury, whose real name was Farrokh Bulsara, was born in Zanzibar, Tanzania, in 1946 and moved to England with his parents in the 1960s. Austin was born in 1951 into an impoverished family in South London’s Battersea neighborhood. Her father worked as a wallpaper trimmer, and her mother was a domestic for a small company. Both of her parents were deaf. Austin and Mercury first crossed paths while she was working at the fashionable London clothing store Biba, and Mercury, who had just completed art college, was working at a clothing stall in nearby Kensington. Initially hesitant about Mercury's flamboyant personality, Austin soon fell for him, and they became a couple, living together in a cramped flat while he pursued his music career. “He was like no one I had ever met before,” Austin told OK! Magazine in 2000. “He was very confident, and I have never been confident. We grew together. I liked him - and it went on from there.” The couple eventually moved to a bigger flat on Holland Road in London. In 1973, the year Queen released their debut album, Mercury proposed to Austin. “When I was 23 he gave me a big box on Christmas Day. Inside was another box, then another and so it went on. It was like one of his playful games. Eventually, I found a lovely jade ring inside the last small box,” Austin told the Daily Mail in 2013. Confused, Austin asked Mercury on which hand she should place the ring. He replied the left and asked her to marry him. “I was shocked. It just so wasn’t what I was expecting. I just whispered, ‘Yes. I will.’” As Queen's fame grew with albums like "Sheer Heart Attack" (1974) and "A Night at the Opera" (1975), which included the ballad "Love of My Life" reportedly written for Austin, Mercury's public persona also expanded. His striking appearance, charismatic performances, and powerful voice made him a star. However, their personal life was troubled. Six years into their relationship, the topic of marriage had faded, and Austin sensed something was amiss. She confronted Mercury, feeling like a burden to him. “I told him, ‘Something is going on and I just feel like a noose around your neck. I think it’s time for me to go,’” she recalled to OK! Mercury denied any issues, but the relationship cooled as Queen's success soared. Austin suspected Mercury was seeing another woman, but in 1976, he revealed his evolving sexual feelings. “I’ll never forget that moment,” Austin told the Daily Mail. “Being a bit naive, it had taken me a while to realize the truth. Afterward, he felt good about having finally told me he was bisexual. Although I do remember saying to him at the time, ‘No Freddie, I don’t think you are bisexual. I think you are gay.’” This revelation ended their physical relationship, and Austin moved to a nearby flat Mercury's music-publishing company bought for her. Despite this, she remained in his life and part of Queen’s extended circle. “She went on the road with them. There are photographs of them together backstage at concerts into the late seventies by which stage they were no longer a couple,” biographer Blake noted. “He was to all intents and purposes a gay man. It’s a very interesting part of their story, that having lived together as a couple and her believing that at one point they would be married and then having to come to terms with the fact that he was sleeping with guys. And they remained such good friends for so long after that. She stayed as part of the band’s entourage because she was part of his entourage. She was the most important person in that entourage.”

LOML was on A Night at the Opera album in 75, the next album A day at the Races (feat. Somebody to Love) had a song called "You take my breath away". The guitar is substituted for a piano but the feel of the song is similar and Freddie's voice is incredible as usual.

Forget Live Aid tes its great, but Queen performed the next year also Live at Wembly (1986) with their full repertoire. With the same crowd interaction/reaction. Their version of PULSE or Alchemy, every song fantastic

Speaking of missing Freddie - there are more live versions on KZbin where Brian sings this song as a tribute to Freddie which are very moving!

Wembley 1986! My wife at the time was unable to make the trip down to London due to her being very pregnant. I was 23, and I remember it like it was yesterday. Life changing!

Freedie did have a talent for interacting with the audience no matter the size of the audience. As I have been watching you grow I feel the same thing about you. I am looking forward to that continuing as your audience grows. As always I am looking forward to your next reaction. 🥰

Stacey... even if you don't react to it, watch the Rio version of this. The crowd sings the entire first verse while Freddie conducts. A crowd of like 250,000, whose native language is Portuguese - and it's just so perfect. Freddie gets a bit choked up by it.

Ciao dolcissima e sensibile ❤️😘 Stacey !

If anyone has seen a Queen show today with Adam lambert, you’ll see that when Brian does love of my life this is the exact concert that Freddie pops up and sings the rest of the song when Brian stops singing

Was fortunate enough to have sung this with Freddy and an arena full of people twice in the early 80s. What an amazing performer he was.

Finally, the long-awaited Queen song has arrived and has been uploaded. If possible, I’d like to request reactions to two more Queen songs: "The Show Must Go On" and "Too Much Love Will Kill You". Thank you :)

Stacey, you should react to Queen's "It's a Kind of Magic" live at Wembley stadium. Another great example of Freddie's amazing stage presence and spectacular vocal talent. I know how much you appreciate Queen and I know you will enjoy this one.
