Seems fun to deal with butyl tape that Volvo used for windshields in the 240
@dreammaker730Ай бұрын
I was actually looking they still sell butyl tape on Ebay, Useful stuff but a night mare at the same time .

Hi Marc, your metal fabrication/preparation skills are most professional. I would seriously consider a full restoration of this vehicle at some future point, cheers.
@SimpsonsClassicsАй бұрын
Thanks Rick that’s much appreciated. I am sure we will tackle more on the car over the years but right now it needs to be a driver so we can get back on the to the amazon and other cars. Thanks for watching 👍

The scuttle repair looks great! Clearcoating the whole car is definitely the way to go for now.

Totally agree with a clear coat over all the patina will look 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻Well done on the Scuttle.

Thanks! I am glad you like the idea. It’s the plan just not sure how to tackle it yet.

That's excellent. I tried to remove a windscreen from a mg maestro once. Didn't work out. It's going to be a good Volvo once it's road ready.
@SimpsonsClassicsАй бұрын
Cheers. It was a right pain due to the extra sealant but it’s done now.
@Slippingclutches91Ай бұрын
@@SimpsonsClassics Looks the same as what on my 740. Was a pain when sealing leaks. Got it all over the trim above the windscreen. Horrible stuff. Took petrol to clean it up.

@Slippingclutches91 I will bare that in mind I really hope it goes in ok.

100% correct about the body filler too! Some of the sights I see where they've literally used centimetres of filler to make shapes 😂
@SimpsonsClassicsАй бұрын
Yeah it’s a tool bit shouldn’t be a fix aha. I am sure if I dig deep enough the car might have some back repairs but I can’t see them yet.

It’s coming along, think clear coating the whole car will look good.
@recreativesigns4571Ай бұрын
I think this is your take on what a VOLVO means to you - Vehicle Of Love Virtually Original. I think you’re doing the right thing focusing on the scuttle area to ensure that the new screen will be watertight and safe from popping out. Hopefully you’ll pick up a whole bunch of new subscribers after viewers watch this episode.

Cheers buddy for the comment, I do appreciate this car isn’t for everyone but I just want it to be a driver and see how we get on. Thanks for watching as ever 👍

Thats awesome work Mark, I think you are doing yourself an injustice. The repair to the windscreen area and roof is superb 👌 can't wait for the next volvo video.

Thank you Pete. I am glad you’re enjoying this one.

It looks a hell of alot better than I was expecting under the screen. The older type windscreen bonding is horrible stuff to work with. Looking forward to the next one

Thanks buddy yeah that sealant is awful stuff. Can’t wait to have it all back together soon..
@RichieRouge206Ай бұрын
I love how she's looking and you have done a great job and really dig the worn patina, it tells a story of its life. I'd definitely recommend clearcoating thewhole car to preserve it. Those plastic clips could be 3D printed. Awesome video fella

Thanks I appreciate the comment I appreciate the car isn’t for everyone to. Hopefully we can see it back outside and moving under its own steam soon! Cheers for watching 👍

never been a fan of "rust converters" personally (my opinion doesn't matter, it's not my car👍) for what you want the car to be you've made the right decisions and done a good job👍

Looking good. Keep it up. Nice to see another Volvo saved. The Brit ones really do seem to suffer more from rust than those here in the US. Salt on the roads in winter?
@SimpsonsClassicsАй бұрын
Cheers glad you’re enjoying it. Yes unfortunately the roads get heavily salted in the uk and this is what’s killing cars off.

That is coming along nice! The windscreen leaking on the 240s seems to be a major problem. My current 245 vintage 1993 was always leaking and also had major black goo used by previous owner who worked at a Volvo dealer. I had the windscreen replaced as it had a major crack. The job was done by professional window glass shop and I returned twice to have the windscreen seal redone until now it leaks only a very small amount. I have had other 240s and it seems every single one had some sort of leak in the windscreen area. Or maybe it is the seal around the windscreen wiper? or where do those drain holes lead to? Anyway good luck putting in the new windscreen. It is at least a 2 man job and as you know must be done very slowly and gently! Some of this is so stressful so I feel for you!
@SimpsonsClassicsАй бұрын
Cheers! Yes I have heard that the screens like to leak. Hopefully a fresh screen and fresh sealant should sort this one out. Even with the damage it had I never saw water dripping in this car and it’s lived outside since I have had it. But nevertheless hopefully we can do a good enough job. Yes definitely a two man job to get the new one back in. Thanks for watching 👍

Butyl tape , trade name trim shied on the inside sticking sceeen to body , looks like when.it leaked they fudged a load of arbo mast down the sides , confused the hell out of me the first 240 i did.. At least its a relativeky small hole to weld up .
@SimpsonsClassicsАй бұрын
Yeah someone has definatly been there for which is a shame. Hopefully the new one doesn't leak and is a bit tidier.

The main thing is the water wont be coming it to the car anymore and seeping creating more corrosion .
@SimpsonsClassicsАй бұрын
Exactly although even with the hole in the scuttle it wasn't coming in, very odd aha
@ianrudge4580Ай бұрын
If your going to clear coat the whole car then it will need to be a satin clear otherwise it will just look too shiny and loose the patina.
@SimpsonsClassicsАй бұрын
Cheers yes this is what we are leaning on as I idea satin will make it look right..
