People who say you're spending too much on the 245 simply don't understand old cars or the fact that you are literally stopping her from being scrapped. You have done a great job and the fact that isn't perfect is actually.... perfect. People who don't understand the patina vibe never will get it. Not everything has go be factory fresh. Why can't they understand this? Great video man.

Thanks buddy yes a few comments have been about budget and time and it’s not worth it. My view is if we all gave up on cars like this we wouldn’t have any left. For me I want an old tired looking Volvo as it would have been all those years back as a usable old workhorse. Maybe even tow the trailer one day to aha

Ignore the nay sayers and haters. It looks amazing and will be able to live on for many years. 🏆

Totally agree, you can’t put a price on motoring perfection. Most of them likely drive something German and noisy.

It’s great you’ve saved the car Marc & she’ll be back on the road which is the main thing. It’s given you pleasure which is very important. Keep up the good work, look forward to seeing you at a show soon.

Thanks Peter. It would have been scrapped and now it hasn’t. It can look like this for now and maybe a full repaint later down the line…

Thanks man. This car has such a story to be told so this is how it’s staying
@recreativesigns4571Ай бұрын
Marc just remember you have achieved a lot on this car. You wanted to protect its patina, repair the area around the front screen so not to have it fall out or leak. You’ve added a few scars along the way to marry up the patina so it blends into the appeal you’re looking for. Yes, it won’t be to everyone’s taste and if they are wanting perfection then they can watch videos you have of the ‘89 Mini. You set yourself a goal and are heading in the direction you want to take the car. I think even if you spent hours cutting back any areas of the lacquer to remove the nibs etc you’ll find your time better spent on getting it running and sorted. We can then see a video of you and Mrs S take it for a nice scenic drive with the shop dog. Perhaps take a hamper and a flask of tea for a picnic perched in the back with the boot up. Perfect. Great job.
@SimpsonsClassicsАй бұрын
Thanks buddy your comment is much appreciated for sure. The finish will do for the way the car looks it shouldn’t be perfect as it’s far from that it’s a case of just making it more usable. The mistakes in all honesty have mate it look more authentic if anything🤣 Cheers for watching 👍

That's really good chap. Looks good. Don't worry about abit of dirt in the lacquer. It's all preserved. As you said it's a £23 paint job. Get it on the road now and enjoy. As you said. Save perfection for the Amazon. Should be getting some new to me panels for mine soon!

@alexmacdonald4270Ай бұрын
The 245 looks amazing, can’t wait to see it all done and on the road where it belongs, and £23 is a lot of bang for your buck, its not about money with old cars, it about the connection you have with them and being able to save them from the scrap yard. Really well done done Marc 🏆. What is next for the 245?
@SimpsonsClassicsАй бұрын
Thanks buddy it’s definitely been saved from scrap now whether it looks good or not at least it’s still with us. Next steps are windscreen and get her back up and running again along with a few smaller jobs

Hi Mark . Your health and happiness MUST come first. Sad for you and Minimine that you no longer work for them but glad they still support you. Your learning curve and skills get better and better - a major plus - keep it comming we are all learning from you! . Great you are saving the 245 even though this approach is not for me. I am not a fan of the Rat Look and feel the efforts put in would be better directed to longer life extending process for the car. I just hope soon you will make this change in direction especiallity with the Clubman Estate - whilst understanding the cost angle (I have got a 71 Cliubman Estate of my own i progress). I will continue to follow you whatever and wish you the best for the future.

That’s the idea. It should be good enough. Time to get it running now!
@alanothen3962Ай бұрын
@@SimpsonsClassics Ah yes, I’d forgotten it isn’t a runner yet. Get it running and riding without spending too much more and it will have been a really good project. Focus on getting it running - don’t get seduced by opportunities to fit turbochargers, undercar lighting or go faster stripes. :-)
@SimpsonsClassicsАй бұрын
@alanothen3962 well we know she is a runner from the previous episodes but I want to go through and do a service and full check over. No engine mods planned just want it running. Stay tuned 👍

@@SimpsonsClassics You've done a great job resurrecting the car, especially with regard to the scuttle, which looked like it was terminally rotten in the introductory video. It would be nice for it to last a good few years longer :)

Nothing wrong with the upol, used 2k direct gloss for my 850r front bumper refurb, cam out really good.

Nope it’s a good brand. Remember we didn’t want really good it just needed to be covered and look like it’s not been done

Get yourself a lvlp gun, I used a burisch one, and a load of water traps, I had one compressor with reg, another with reg on end of reel, then those little ones that screw onto your gun.

The car being mint defeats the whole point of it. It’s got super cool patina that you can’t replicate and it’s even more usable now being water tight, should be buzzing now you can just drive the wheels off it.
@SimpsonsClassicsАй бұрын
Exactly the car is now protected and can live another day. Time to get her running next and out on the road. Oh windscreen might be nice to 🤣
