@@vickiejenkins-tripp5994 You are absolutly right, But it was not Prince himself, given it to her. It was his manager, who later on became Sinead's manager. Prince started singing his version live, after Sinead became famours with the song. Prince never wanted Sinead to sing it, because he did not like her attitude. When he first met her a few years later, they got in to a real fight, and Sinead must ran to the next door neighbor. Sinead's version was number 1 on Top 100 song chart in 1990.

Ireland has a tough history of oppression, great hunger, emigration, etc... and Irish are extremely musical. One thing I think Irish do probably better than anyone is to express deep, deep sorrow in a uniquely haunting Irish way. You can really hear that in Sinéad's vocals... She is ripped apart, and crying out but still so incredibly beautiful with an Irish lilt.

She got crazy popular after performing this song (written by Prince). Then, on SNL (Saturday Night Live), in protest to all of the children abused by priests in the Catholic church, she tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II. Everyone turned on her and it killed her career. There's another video of her performing with Kris Kristopherson. When she came out on stage the entire crowd booed her. She stood defiant, sang a different song called War, then broke down on her way off stage as Kris held her. She had a troubled life growing up, abused by her mother, and after this her life basically fell apart. She says she has bipolar disorder. Married four times, addicted to marijuana for 30 years, attempted suicide. Converted to Islam in 2018. As of a week ago, November 10, 2020 she said she's entering a year long rehab and postponing her 2020 concerts. "This year I lost someone beloved and has affected me so badly that I became briefly addicted to a drug other than weed."

She didn't open up about this song for the longest time, like pretty much until very recently, and her mom was mentally ill, and very very abusive to her, and she said of her mother that she ran a "torture chamber" and also sexually abused her. Despite all of the horrific abuse at her mother's hands, she said that she loves her mother (who was killed in a car accident when she was 19) and forgave her. I'm sorry that you lost your mom, you're very young, and my heart goes out to you. Love your videos! Keep up the good work.

Chris Cornell made it acoustic version of this song which was written by the artist Prince. It brought me to tears with its depth of emotion. The prince version was almost papash and in a strange way almost Happy. Sinead O'Connor's version did not move me. If you do review Chris's version of the song please do the Sirius XM station sessions. He also did the songs nearly forgot my broken heart and fell on Black Days. They will bring you to tears. I would really love to see what Miss Livy thinks of Chris Cornell. With respect always to you both Brant Heavner. 😊😊

You really should check out Chris Cornell's cover of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" that he did live on SiriusXM Lithium station. It is my favorite versionof this song.

This song was written years before she sang it, by another person (Prince). So it has nothing to do with her. I'm a huge Prince fan, but Sineads version is the best.

I read that Prince wrote the song & sang it. It was written about his housekeeper leaving to be with her family after her father passed away. Sinead’s version was so much better and she’s the one who took it to the top of the charts. She had tears fall at the end of the song, she was thinking of her mom who had lost her life from a car wreck.

Her name is pronounced Shin-ade. The song was written by Prince, The reason she tears up when she sings the lyric mother is because she had a horrific relationship w/ her mother and it hit her when she sang that!
