Blinded By The Mondegreen The song "Blinded by the Light" is actually a song written and recorded, in 1972, by Bruce Springsteen. It appeared on his debut album 'Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.' in 1973. The album didn't do so well for Springsteen, when it was originally released. It reached #60 in the US and #41 in the UK. The song didn't do any better for Bruce. It failed to chart in 1973 as well as in 1977 on a European re-release. The lyrics are rather strange, often unrelated. Springsteen said he used a rhyming dictionary to aid his choices. In his album version, he repeats the chorus "Blinded by the light, cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night" only three times. As luck would have it, South African musician Manfred Mann decided to cover the song for his seventh studio album 'The Roaring Silence' in 1976. He reworked both the style and lyrics, particularly the chorus, which he changed to "revved up like a deuce" and repeats the phrase more times than I care to count. It was a smash hit receiving major airplay throughout the world. SongFacts says "It is one of the most triumphant covers ever recorded." The album, 'The Roaring Silence', was top ten in the US, Canada, the UK, Norway, and Austria. "Blinded by the Light" hit #1 in the US and Canada, and #6 in the UK. Many people are unaware of the Springsteen origin in much the same way as they think of "All Along The Watchtower" as being a Jimi Hendrix original rather than Bob Dylan. Dylan is fine with that, as is Bruce. Another item of interest is the chorus, which is a mondegreen, or often misheard song lyric. Like hearing Jimi sing "S'cuse me, while I kiss this guy" instead of "kiss the sky" in "Purple Haze" or John Fogerty singing "There's a bathroom on the right" rather than "There's a bad moon on the rise". SongFacts states - "Generations of fans have misheard it as "wrapped up like a douche." Springsteen has even joked that his song did not become popular until it was re-written to be about feminine hygiene products. Said Springsteen: "Deuce was like a Little Deuce Coupe, as in a 2-seater Hot Rod. Douche is a feminine hygienic procedure. But what can I say, the public spoke." FUN FACT - Mann's version includes the "Chopsticks" melody played on piano near the end of the bridge of the song. Mann told 'TeamRock' "The real problem was how to get from the chorus to the verse smoothly. Our drummer Chris Slade said: 'Play Chopsticks over it'." Of course, Rosanna asked Sina if there was anything interesting or unusual with the drum part - "The most brilliant thing about this drumpart is for me the unintuitive stretching of the groove into the next HiHat part. It is one bar longer than expected (for example in my cover at about 1:26). I can't explain why I like this so much, I just do. It brings more tension into the song." "When I searched for this song on iTunes to download for the video, I noticed that there were different versions of the song. Knowing "Blinded by the Light" from the radio, I never knew about the middle section. I listened once to decide whether or not I should cover the longer version and I really liked the guitar solo as well as the way the band comes in and out of the solo back to the chorus. It's a shame they never broadcast this on the radio (maybe this is different in other countries, but in Germany a song is not allowed to be longer than 3 minutes if it's not "Bohemian Rhapsody"). I always liked the song, but I always felt there was something missing from the short edit. Now I know why!" And that's it for this week!

As a retired professor with a major in music theory and World percussive arts, you have very good technique and are one of the best young drummers I've ever seen. Many have great chops, but, when it comes to technical prowess you're very, very good. At over 60 years old, it took many years of practice, playing in my drum room, playing live, studying/teaching in college, touring and life experiences to be able to pull off some of the licks you make look so easy. It's nice to see such a young person with so much talent have the drive and commitment to excel at the pace you have. Keep it up. Whats your thoughts on Keith Moon?
@nancygilbreath6804 жыл бұрын
@@leokimvideo I think he was a great drummer for his time but as far as being technically sound, that was his weakness. Talent was never his shortcoming, however, if you pay real close attention to his rudimental knowledge it was (in my opinion), just a little above average, but, his groupings are and were his trademark. If you get the chance study his 4-way independence and you'll see that because of the style he developed, he had more of a 3-way independence. That was his trademark because through it all, he was one of the few legends that was able to make it work, almost to perfection. I still own every album (vinyl of course) that he ever played on with the "WHO".

The left foot is very impressive. I take your word that the kick is difficult. Overall a beautiful composition that could be overlooked because it's such a pop standard. I love the way the bass and kick drive the song at certain times😊. This is a 7 min pop song, let's celebrate! Yeah now that I think about it, I can see how the kick is difficult. It's random at certain parts, comes and goes, kinda like the wind. A song from my teenage days ,,,, And I never really realized how complex and difficult this drum part is. And to see a true master of her trade on the drums here really takes your breath away. I used to say that I admire these people who get behind the drums. And only a few of them make it to the top. Our Lady Sina not only plays at the top, she is without a doubt one of the few who can and may be called world class. She plays in a league in which only a few members gather. And watching her at work is a great honor. I can only bow deeply to her ability. Lady Sina, you stand at the gates of the drummer Olympus. It is time to step through this gate. With such achievements, it is undoubtedly more than deserved.

This a absolutely impressive...again! Maybe I'm a 70's rock music snob (I'm 52) or just the fact that I've put headphones on 20-30 times since I was 18 and drummed along with this song, but it's common "drummer knowledge" how fantastic and killer the drum track is on this song. Chris Slade is amazing! He's the bald drummer who ended up with AC/DC in the 90's and also on the Firm with Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers. I've been selling this song to all my musicians friends for decades on the absolute stellar drumming by that man. His drumming is phenomenal on many of MM's stuff from 1971-77. Sina plays it basically spot on. Such passion, vigor and pure enjoyment! She has moments of overplaying just a tad but it's stems from pure passion, which is a beautiful thing. Keep working on your dynamics. The quiet breakdown beat is right on the $. I was anxiously awaiting the 16th notes on the kick as a "fill" during the mellow groove, which she did very well. Great snare rolls too! Sina, don't ever stop playing the drums....you are in the zone and you have the best thing a drummer can have that CANNOT be taught...inner feel, a superb ear and the ability to mimic almost everything you hear in a drum performance. @sina-drums Congratulations, I'm 49 years old I studied classical music and I like rock, I like your technique and that feeling that is part of your stamp in every touch, you made me remember my youth with my rock band. Do not stop doing what shows is your passion, music.

Very Cool! I’m so stoked when I see the young generation play and enjoy music of MY youth! Just gives me goose bumps! And when they are THIS good? My mind is just blown to pieces! Keep walking your path young lady and you’ll see greater things ahead! Mahalo nui for sharing! Aloha!

What a fun little tune. Much more than a "plain drum cover" IMHO. The Hi Hat certainly received a good workout in this one. Thanks for a fantastic blast from the past. 🧡

This drum track encompasses so many great drummers styles from Copelands cymbal work to Bonham heavy groove and even Peart s flair for switching the accent. Also hear some Dire Straights in hear. And dont get me started on the guitar and oh so awesome bass line. Probably my desert island song, if I had to choose.

Until the late 90's I only knew the MME version of the song and I loved it. I had bought the Roaring Silence the year the vinyl came out. Then IIRC in 1998 I saw Bruce play it live on stage as a pure piano solo... and that was simply phantastic in its own way. However the MME version is way smoother and once heard, you won't lose it for hours and hours. In this vid the impeccable rhythm coming from the drums is way better than what was hearable on the old vinyl. The intro, the regular as well as the hispeed fills are done in perfertion. Pure enjoyment!

KZbin bring the algorithm that it is, this reappeared in my feed, so I watched it again - again - this is a superlative performance, one of your very best Sina - how, just HOW do you get all those hits and rolls and transitions in, my body would freak out and divorce me if I tried that. Well done you, I loved it once again.

She is so amazing. I am a super amateur drummer, in-between equipment right now (donated my Ludwig to a school downtown who is struggling to help kids out of trouble through music). Getting close to buying new Kit and to be honest, watching Sina has been so enjoyable. She's good man, best I have seen on KZbin when it comes to the kind of content she consistently puts out. I'm thinking of spending a bit more money for a kit this time, staying away from Birch and going for something like Maple. Sina, I know you can't probably recommend anything to me but I am thinking of going with a 7 piece Pearl, Tama or Gretsch. Cymbals I always go with Paiste. I only hope to be half as good as you in 5 years. Thanks for the videos and getting through this "no drums" part of my life.

Sina, you are one of the best drummers i have ever heard! i lived through the seventies and eighties and loved rock music with my soul and i have heard the best drummers in the world, some of them live and i have to say you rival many of them , maybe all. The GAS is a good band , i like you guys and wish you a bright future and look forward to your music. however do not limit yourself you could be the Anchor musician of ANY band. Thank you for your covers and for THE GAS your great.

And again you took me back to around 1979 in my room, black light posters all over the walls, a half a dozen or so lava lamps and a disco ball hanging from the ceiling. Then on my birthday May the 6th 1984 I joined the Army and life happened. But my hair is long again and I can breathe. Thank you Sina. Your channel has brought damn good memories back. Keep Rockin'!

Once again a fantastic performance ; I can tell you worked hard with this song as Chris Slade (AC/DC drummer) is a powerful fast drummer and this track is no exception. Like Bonham, Slade hits his drums harder than most others. By not smiling or glancing at the camera, I noticed you focusing and really looking at your drum set intently, which by the way was shaking much more than in other videos. This song really pushed your excellent drum skills to the limit. When the song was over you were out of breath and slid your headset of with much relief. This why I tip my hat off to you--Chris Slade drumming is difficult for most drummers to follow. Great job, we are all impressed. Keep it up!

Hey’ Sina. I loved this track ta. You looked to be working your backside off on this track - however you also appear to be having the time of your life. Great show as always thank you Sina! PS: I bought the Manfred Mann album ‘Watch’ in 1977, and got to know ‘Blinded by the Light’ very well. I loved your drumming tonight on this track thank you. We have a large age difference, but hey’ it matters not Sina. I am becoming a supporter of your channel as I thoroughly appreciate both your musical ability - and your youthful energy, thank you Sina. Warm regards, Dave ✌️

I just have to write a note to let you know that I was blown away by this performance; I've played it three or four times and I find myself wondering what an FMRI scan would show whilst you're performing this - it is amazing to watch and listen to. Thank you so much for brightening my day. I love it.

No sweat... no big deal at all. I could keep the left foot going on the high-hat at that rate for a good thirty seconds. Of course then, it would take a massage therapist working on me every day for two weeks to get me to walk again!!! This young lady never fails to impress!!!

Ah, the good old days when rock music was great and the diversity of styles could be found in so many bands. I guess it’s a signal I‘m getting old when I start glorifying these times when I grew up with this music on the radio and going to concerts of these bands (MMEB 1979, 1981 and sometimes in the 90s). BTW: In these times they often played the long versions of songs on the radio. I can remember hearing the full version of „Get ready“ (23 minutes) several times on air, once they had to interrupt it for urgent traffic news 😁 As always, good choice, Sina!

Those were the days my friend, we thougt they never end ... 1972 my local radio station (back then SDR) played the new released Jethro Tull LP "Thick As A Brick" in full length. Tja, da gab es noch Radio mit Format, heute nur noch Formatradio ohne selbiges. Egal ob ÖR oder Privat. Größtenteils eine musikalische Ödnis. Schade eigentlich.

I heard this song countless times, on the radio etc. It wasn't until kids today started reacting to it and covering it that I now truly appreciate how complex and awesome it is.

Sina , been following you for a few years and you just keep getting better and better. You are the antidote to the scamdemic thats happening right now. My dad, god rest his soul, brought me up on drummers like Buddy Rich, Gene Kruper, Louie bellson. I went on to love drummers like Stewart Copeland, John Bonham, Phil Collins, all totally different but all just as brilliant. I thought Ringo Starr was mediocre until you shown me otherwise. All had one thing in common, PASSION, and you have it in spades. When I need a lift I watch one of your vids.Keep them coming

As a hack drummer, I am just blown away by your performance. I can play…but it seems like child’s play next to this. It always blows my mind to watch a great drummer detach all limbs with such precision. I find myself giggling at the insane action it takes to do this. Bravo!

Wow just loved this one. Don't know how many times I've listened to it before and never really thought about the drum track in the recording but as usual Sina and her Father have a way to really showcase the song, Sina performs it flawlessly and Mike makes sure the levels and the production are spot on. Always love watching Sina's covers but I'm really becoming a huge fan of the originals and collaborations. Would love to find some more videos of the Gas also

Easily one of my favorite songs growing up in the seventies. The precision of each instrument, the drum parts accentuating the keyboard and guitar parts, it’s really just a beautiful song. And as always, your playing was so brilliant, so fun to watch, and so beautiful to hear. Definitely one of your best covers right here. Thank you, as always, for continuing to help us relive and rediscover some of our favorite music from our youth. Rock on, Sina.

SINA and Mike: As someone who watches this performance on repeat constantly, wanted to comment on the use of the foot cam! ! When I stumbled upon SinaDrums 4yrs ago I was instantly hooked. As someone with no rhythm nor musical skills, I did recognize greatness, and I think that while the simplicity of the side-front- and overhead shots are great, for me that only shows part of the show- what’s amazing to me is what’s going on with Sina’s feet all at the same time!! Thanks for that, I am blown away every time. I wish continued joy in whatever Sina chooses in life! 👍❤️Diehard Fan From Florida 🌴

What a phenomenal drummer you are. Love every beat of this video. And I can see it was a thrill for you too. So inspiring! Besides that, I've tried to imagine this track without the drums... it would be a lot less interesting musically. The drum-track is a real foundation here and in my opinion, this would just collapse without the drums.
