The Sultan escaped to Johor and establish the Johor Sultanate. This Sultanate ruled to the north in Pahang and south to Riau-Lingga including Singapore. # In 1819 Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles instructed Colonel William Farquhar to invite an exiled Raja Hussain Syah in Pulau Penyegat to be the 1st Sultan of Singapore (although Sang Nila Utama was already the 1st Sultan). # In 1824, the Sultan of Singapore, Raja Hussain Syah signed the "Treaty of Singapore" to hand Singapore over to British Resident John Crawford. # In 1834, the disgraced Sultan Raja Hussain Syah left Singapore and died in Malacca in September 5, 1835. # Tengku Ali @ Sultan Ali Iskandar Syah (died on 21 June 1877. Buried in Malacca) # Tengku Alam Syah @ Sultan Alauddin Mansur Syah (died on 26 August 1891. Buried at Telok Blangah, Singapore) # Tengku Ali took over his father's throne but did not carry the title of Sultan. He died on 2 November 1918 at Istana Kampong Glam. # Tengku Hussein as Head of Household until 1930s. # In 2004, Istana Kampong Glam converted to Malay Heritage Center. This is the sad demise of the Singapore Sultanate.

Hi! If you’re doing more videos on Malay history, you should definitely check out the Telok Blangah/southern area! It has one of the most interesting histories imo, from old royal graves, a shrine of a Javanese princess etc. I’ve read that it even used to be the capital of Johor before the sultan moved it to Johor Bahru (tho i forgot whr i read that one)... Adding to that it also has a rich history of WW2, especially near the Labrador area.

There is one and only Muslim grave at Duxton Plain a few stone-throws from the Indian temple. Go and do your research at Kereta Ayer(Chinatown) behind the shop houses. Perplexing one Muslim Malay female grave. Cheerio!

Once again thank you for your insights into the places in Sg. There is a mosque/cemetry not far from the Kampong Glam. Is there anyone who could provide more information about that? I am sure there could be a few interesting stuff. The other interesting mosque/cemetry is by Mt Faber and is said to be owned by the Royal Johor family. I believe this is another interesting site.

THe cemetary and mosque near Kampong Glam you are referring to is the Aljunied Cemetary/Mosque. It was started by one of the Aljunied family, another well-known pioneer figure in Singapore. The mosque/cemetary near Mt Faber which belongs to the royal Johor family is the Masjid Temenggong Daing Ibrahim

You mean the blue mosque on Jalan Kubor? That's Malabar Mosque built in 1963 by Keralan Indian Muslims. The cemetery adjacent is the oldest Muslim cemetery in Singapore with four thousand plus graves. It reflects the cosmopolitan nature of 19th century Singapore. The mosque and tomb on Telok Blangah Road belongs to the Johor Royal Famiy and is administered by Johor Religious Department. It was originally the Istana Lama (Old Palace) of Temenggong Abdul Rahman, father to Temenggong Daeng Ibrahim who was father to the first Sultan of Modern Johor, Sultan Abu Bakar. The palace was turned into a mosque when Temenggong Abu Bakar moved to Istana Tyersall of Tyersall and Woodneuk fame, the land still belongs to the Johor Royal family to this day. By the way, the former Bidadari cemetery was the site of the residence of Temenggong Abu Bakar's second wife of Danish ancestry. She was very beautiful and was likened to fairies hence the reference 'bidadari'. Interesting much! The tomb of Raden Mas Ayu on Mt Faber belongs to a 16th century Javanese princess who died taking the dagger meant for her beloved father who was brother to a Javanese king holding the title of Pangeran Adipati Agung. Their personal names are not known, only their Indonesian royal titles.
