@@Mechanized85 to be fair, the actual Chinese warplan in 1969 for war with the USSR was equally insane: The Chinese would launch their nuclear arsenal against American bases in Japan and South Korea, then disperse their armies and civilian populations - the logic being, that, due to the chaos of the war, the U.S. would think the Chinese strike was a Soviet attack, letting the two superpowers duke it out while China hid in its mountains.
@justeunfan33642 ай бұрын
@@Mechanized85 Today I don't think the US would join either one, not right at the start of the conflict thats for sure. But a few decades ago China was not persived as a threat compared to the soviet union. The US would surely have jumped on the occasion, hopping to be able to pressure the chinese to install a puppet governement or at least a pro USA one after the war. They would have seen it as yet another proxy war like Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan in some way.
@howardkong89272 ай бұрын
@@AUsernameWeShallMarchToKiev Even without that, this hand is very clever. Because it forces the USA to take a stance, in a war that had nothing to do with the USA. Once the USA knows that they will suffer a nuclear strike (even if it's from China), the USA would be forced to try to de-escalate this war as much as it can. And the USA is certainly capable of doing so, since it can threaten the USSR to back down using the USA's military might. Which is exactly what Mao wanted.
@Valkyrie_Yukikaze2 ай бұрын
@@AUsernameWeShallMarchToKievThat is probably just an idea on paper and more political oriented than the military thinking. The actual military plan is to gives up the entire Northern China plains, since the PLA back then do not think they can stop the Soviet army that is full of armored units and mechanized unit. They would probably delays the Soviet a bit, but the main battle plan would be going in the Southern Chinese mountains where soviet mechanized force would struggle against terrain and even the play ground for the PLA. Under this plan, the capital city of Beijing and important cities in the North would be abandoned since they are deemed not defense-able on the plain.

0:41 In reality this did happen to some extent. Soviet Union planned a full-scale strategic nuclear strike against China. The USA not only passed on the information to the Chinese leadership (whom had begun evacuating to inland areas to avoid the first wave of attack), but also found a relatively small newspaper to expose the decision as a form of tacit warning which eventually convinced the Soviet Union to back off. Then in late 1970s when Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, both China and USA secretly supplied weapons (most famously the Stinger missles but reportedly also Chinese rifles with the Chinese characters scratched off) to mujahideens.

Just some little tips: Trying to outrun missiles by climbing is usually a very bad decision. You should get fast and drop to the deck as soon as possible to get below targeting radar's horizon. I don't know if it is modeled in the game but especially for older missiles notching them ie. Pointing down at the ground and then pulling atlow altitude will confuse the missiles and cause them to just ram the deck as they try to track you but don't know that the deck exists at all and will hit it. Also some missiles track your speed difference. If you go directly perpindicular to their bearing you will have no velocity difference from your surroundings (ie. the sea or the ground) from the missiles point of view and it will loose track.
@jeffdale16262 ай бұрын
The other reason for this is because air is thinner the higher you go, so if you climb not only do you sacrifice your speed but you improve the range of the SAM. Diving lower increases drag on the missile, which once the booster phase ends begins to slow the SAM and reduce it's range and ability to maneuver. Likewise, jinking up and down down low can cause the missile to adjust it's track into the deck.

Notching is not a thing in Sea Power but all missiles have a minimum engagement altitude below which their accuracy is significantly reduced, to reflect the effect of increased surface clutter at low altitude. The older the missile, the less forgiving their minimum engagement altitudes will be.

Being really low does wonders for bombing accuracy, especially if the target is tall like a ship. The bomb can even skip off the water if it lands short and still hit the ship. The hard part would be finding the ship at night, impossible on a moonless night and requiring lots of guidance from the bombers even with moonlight.

Yes I too wondered about the authenticity of the J5 and J7 being able to undertake a night bombing mission. It would be nice to see proper J-7s in Sea Power eventually. I noticed that MiG-21Bis' were used, which doesn't make sense for China, or 1969. The Bis entered service with the Soviets in 1972 and the Chinese never had any Bis based J-7s. In fact, the Chinese didn't have a J-7 with the Gen 2 cockpit design until the late 80s with the J-7 III/J-7D. All J-7s had the earlier MiG-21F style front hinged bubble canopy rather than the Gen 2 side hinged inline canopy. The J-7D was based on a single MiG-21MF they recieved from the middle east in the 80s. I understand that it's a limitation of what we have in game, but I am always a stickler for detail lol.

I can't imagine any other scenario than the second one.
