Sintra is a world heritage site, famous for its romantic sites being Pena Palace one of the best romantic monuments in the world. But there are much more to see in Sintra, from the Mourish castle, to the Masonic palace and gardens of Quinta da Regaleira to the Neo Moorish palace of Monserrate to the westernmost point in Europe, Cabo da Roca, to the amazing Adraga or Ursa beach. You barely scratch the surface...Those towers in the vilage palace are actually chimneys, by the way inside that palace there are an amazing collection of blue tiles. that palace date back from 1489

Tom, I am clad that you chose Portugal to visit before you do the Christmas markets. We found it to be affordable with excellent weather and also many locals speak English. Ginger and I were impressed with the beautiful tile and the friendliness of the people. Check out the cork oak trees. It is interesting how they harvest the cork and number the trees to indicate when to re- harvest. Also, cork is used for many other products beside wine corks. We received 4 inches of snow in Hemlock Michigan this morning.
