That first 40 minutes of the third test is more than enough for Foster to be done. Even when they came back in the second half it was off purely individual performances from Savea, Ioane and Jordan. Ireland played like a TEAM drilled to perfection. The AB's looked like absolute rabble even during the come back it was obvious they were going to make stuff ups and give ireland a chance to get out of it.

We need a NEW DEFENCE coach. Ireland scored tries in the first 3-10 minutes in all of the 3 tests. That put us on the back foot from the start. At least we did get back into those tests by starting to score points later on. We need to start great from kick off.

As a coach myself one thing we like to make a point of at training is, we play what we control. We don’t control the Ref, weather, the other teams. Then the question becomes, what do we control? -Tackle practice and training is high on the list -Don’t go for interceptions -No jumping -No hands in ruck By identifying these problems areas and training them out of the game plan we have created a well balanced game and team culture that has lead us to the final

Don’t think a team should ever be coached to not go for interceptions, it’s just about decision making, if there’s a genuine chance for an intercept why not? Just don’t slap the ball down with no chance of regathering. often it can be a 14 point play, and even if it’s dropped it should only be ruled a knock on if the defender had a genuine chance at intercepting it.

This interview is a good example of why the New Zealand public are so pissed. The comtemp Hanson shows is astoning. Trust us he says. We did when you pushed for Fosters appoinment, or should I say anointment? After two and half years we need to see some progress. Prehaps this sycophant interviewer should ask if there is every a scenario where Foster ahould be replace.

I haven't won 3 world cups I only played 3rd grade rugby and even i can see they are tactically inept. 2nd test, ABs kick ball from there 22 and give it back to Ireland on the half way, 3 minutes later Ireland scored the first try of the 2nd test. 2 other times the ABs did the same thing and Ireland were camped in ABs 22. Absolutely stupid tactic. What did the ABs do in the first 3 minutes of the 3rd test, aimless kick from there 22, Ireland gets the ball on half way and score 2 minutes later. Who the heck is coaching this shit. Its beyond belief. The ABs tried running it out of there 22 and made a mistake and got hurt by that. How is it they are so tactically inept. It only improved when they started kicking the ball deep into Irelands 22 and started putting pressure on them, but by then they were 20 points down. Even Marshall was eluding to this in the coverage. They need to be tactically smarter, is this the coaches fault, it has to be he is at the top.

Puppy Soda I didn't like it when Steve Hansen said that either because MANY knowledgeable Kiwi rugby supporters, who've been watching since they were children, or teenagers, can clearly see the games though! They know what could be done to enhance the chances of winning, such as changing player's roles and replacing one or more etc, hence why they're getting so frustrated. He's right that the public don't know what's happening behind the scenes, yet whatever is going on isn't working out, unless he's talking about a lot of infighting, which would make sense. 😊

Love Hansen and have great respect for the ABs. Win, lose or draw they are always humble and magnanimous. However I think the point of Ireland are picking players from all over the world is often overstated. We have 2 NZ nationals (who it’s worth pointing out are only playing for us, because they were considered not good enough to play with the ABs). We have an Aussie playing for the first time and only for the past year. Van Der Flier for example is Irish right back to his grandparents who were Dutch, not South African. In fact compared to the other European nations, we probably have the lowest level of foreign players, including NZ if you could the islands! We are getting better not by virtue of foreign players, but mostly from home grown changes.

The idea of having continuity in the ABs coaching group is a good one, and served Henry and Hansen with success at the RWC in 2011 and 2015. Henry was an astute coach and Hansen was a good coach. However this 'continuity system' of coaching is totally reliant on the quality of the coaches drawn into the AB coaching group. There must be a proven record of success in the CV of the new inductees, for the 'system of continuity' to continue. You see there is no mysterious conveying of coaching greatness onto an apprentice in the AB coaching system. And this is where the system has fallen down badly with the appointing of Foster as AB coach. His coaching resume is very lightweight, with an average (around 50%) winning rate of games in Super Rugby with the Chiefs, and no championship success whatsoever. Dave Rennie took over from Foster at the Chiefs and won the SR title twice in a row. There was great astonishment amongst the NZ rugby public when Foster was appointed AB coach, as compared to Scott Robertson (the other AB coaching applicant) Foster's credentials paled into insignificance. Robertson at that time had won 3 SR titles in a row, taking over a Crusaders team that had won nothing in 9 years (he has since won 3 more, 6 in a row, making him the most successful SR coach in history). Hansen pushed his apprentice as his 'logical successor', and sadly Henry said Robertson lacked overseas experience as a head coach, blithely ignoring the fact that Foster had none either. Foster won 50% of his AB games in 2020, against Argentina (first AB coach to lose to this nation) and a weakened Australia. He did a bit better in 2021, with the stats bolstered by games against Tonga, Fiji (2), USA and Italy, but in the real litmus test of coaching ability, he lost 3 of 4 tests against top tier nations (SAF, IRE and FRA) towards the end of that year. Then to compound the issue he lost 2 of 3 tests against Ireland in New Zealand in 2022. And in the one win for the ABs Foster was not present in the leadup as he had Covid, and Joe Schmidt piloted the ship to the win. Foster's win rate against tier one nations now stands at 2 wins from 7 games (28%). The ABs team in the last two tests looked disjointed (rudderless?) for much of the games, and this is a direct reflection on the coach and his chosen assistant coaches. Foster was totally outcoached by Andy Farrell, and this has been commented on by Sean Fitzpatrick and many other astute rugby minds. It is obvious that Foster is out of his depth, and is now even grabbing a coach from Scott Robertson's Crusader group in an effort to shore up the problems as he heads into South Africa to battle the Boks at altitude. For the ABs to have any chance at all in the RWC 2023, Foster must be removed and Robertson made coach of the ABs. Interestingly, the world sees the problem and knows the remedy, but NZR struggle to come to grips with reality. It is the quality of the coaches taken into the AB coaching group that determines success or failure. Under Foster the system is failing.

France will beat ABs in the group stages which means NZ will probably have to face the Saffas in the QF - with Ireland (coming second to Saffas in their group) v France in the other QF. The winner of the semi-final on that side of the draw will win the world cup! Although I'm Irish, I live in France and have a huge affinity for them. Sorry Sir Steve, knives out is well and truly justified here. If Foster isn't done now then maybe we need to lose badly against the Springboks in order to fully wake up. This team has been in decline since before the last world cup (brought to light in the semifinal loss to England). This isn't entirely bad or unpredictable given the heights the team achieved from 2011-2016. However, keeping the current leadership regime and reviving old ideas will not make this team better. We have a golden opportunity to make decisive changes as a result of this loss. To squander it and keep the coach and leadership in place would signal to the team, the country and the competition that we are happy with being mediocre. Hopefully good sense and intelligence reigns and we see the change this team sorely needs.

The coach who orchestrated the first-ever defeat to an Irish team in 107 years - after agreeing to play a non-RWC test match in neutral territory (Chicago, U.S.A), and treated it like an exhibition game with his strange selections. Trouble is, Schmidt convinced the Irish to use that condescending approach to their advantage; and attack the AB's in set pieces and tight play: as if it were a RWC playoff. The Irish neglected to give NZ management a heads-up😂. Unfortunately the Irish leveraged the momentum from that initial win to convert into a string of successive and comprehensive wins thereafter. THE END.

It strikes me that as understandable as it is that the ABs regard themselves as the kings of rugby and th northern hemisphere as the poor relatives, they are not accepting reality. Ireland have emerged over the last twenty-five years from being the weakest "Tier-1" nation, behind even the Scots FFS, to being, perhaps the nation that has best adapted to the professional era and metamorphosed from top tier Rugby's whipping boy into a serious danger to any elite rugby nation. The ABs were not defeated by a sixth or seventh ranked Ireland, but a team alongside France grappling for no 1 ranked nation. The ABs may well come back and beat the pants off everyone, but they do not have a good given right to the no 1 spot. I am far more worried about the decline of the sport in Australia than the ABs losing to an exceptionally good and highly motivated Irish team.

I’m listening from Ireland and so I bring my own bias. That said, I find much of the conversation in NZ around ref’ing mind boggling. The rule changes are being brought in, to put massive 20’st men at a disadvantage in open play in favor of smaller, more agile players with better techniques. In the hope that this will cause less damage in the collisions. NZ are refusing to adjust to the new reality when everyone else already has. NZ are beginning to get blown for foul play that, they and they alone, used to get away with. It pure AB’s exceptionalism! it Samoa had played like NZ at the weekend they would have been given 2 red’s and an additional yellow. The red was a red! The prop stepped toward Gary ringrose why is everyone behaving like there was no change of direction from him, it was poor technique and got what the play deserved.

But if you’ve decided in your head that I am making some point about NZ cheating there way to a century of dominance of the game then that’s up to you. To give you some context We all grew up here, getting up early to watch the blues play rugby that seemed to be light years ahead of what we played. Skill level and tactics from another planet. When I was a kid all black jerseys were more common that Irish jerseys. For years I have consumed NZ rugby content because of the levels of knowledge. South Africa have to take a fair.amount of blame for that. They were always the whinging partner in Super Rugby, and now in the Championship - remember 2020 and their petulant late withdrawal? That partnership fractured a long time ago, and now it sounds like Australia want to run away too, although no idea where they'd go. Tbh I reckon NZ Rugby would be better served returning to our old NPC and ditching Super Rugby altogether. We don't need others to help improve our game, we have 20-odd provincial unions that all play unique styles and would test each other out.

I am saddened to hear that you'd consider withdrawal from international exposure and pigeonhole yourselves on your island - this is exactly the point I was trying to set out. Rather than skirmish among ourselves and isolate our teams from interacting/learning from each other, we should unite against the common gripe that we all share with World Rugby. Brodie Retallic has a broken cheekbone for goodness sake, that means something to me. Where's the consistency? Does Irish safety mean more than All Black wellbeing? @@wyntonvisser429 you're absolutely right mate on the safety concerns (and for my sins I married a saffa girl, so do keep a weather eye on you blokes as well!). those were exactly the same situations yet 1 week its red the next its yellow. I haven't watched a match since 2020 now because I'm so sick of the random calls ruining matches. and no, either call being different probably wouldn't have changed the results. however, the one in Dunedin did lead to the ABs being without Savea for most of the match and he's been one of our better performers so you never know. I'm not suggesting isolation, just that super rugby served its purpose but has now become a pointless muddle that I don't believe helps anyone. they should have just left it as Super 12, as the extra Aus and SA teams were useless and just diluted their other sides. Then the obsession with expansion wrecked it Australia are making noises about leaving (a lame attempt at blackmail though, they'd wither on their own) so I say let them go. they did it in the netball too, pulled out of the trans-tasman comp thinking they'd be better on their own without realising most of the money came from Skytv in NZ. Now Aus Netball is bankrupt lol! NZ rugby has lost a bit of its soul without the NPC being pride of place. the best development for young players was in the NPC with a mix of young up and comers, current All Blacks, but most importantly the old stagers than wouldn't never get near a test jersey but played 15 years of NPC rugby and new all the tricks of the trade. I suspect it's the same for SA rugby now your players are spread far and wide, but I think especially French club rugby is very similar to our old NPC.

Interesting interview from a man qualified to speak - on the coaching situation in New Zealand (you've simply fallen behind), refereeing and world rugby. Ireland and France are really good (exceptional teams), they play other really good teams 10-times a year and the NH club competitions in the quarters, semis and finals are like Tests, so the players AND the coaches have multiple Test quality learning opportunities in a year. It would be nice to see NZ move away from the game plan, where they are looking to pounce on other teams mistakes and where they return to a possession game - there seems no doubt that the current players have the skill set, the question is can they be coached to a game plan that they have confidence in and can the forward skill at the game line, breakdown and line-out be improved to the point where they can support the game plan ... and this is a good Ireland side that's well coached. Interesting to note when you come back coaching that Leinster couldn't win either of their club competitions.

Very good point. The NH club competitions really are test match level intensity, especially the play offs. Players in NH have been getting exposed to that level more frequently and I think that is a factor in the gap closing between NH and SH international teams. Ringrose wasn’t even throwing any major shapes despite a lot of NZ media types saying he suddenly changed direction. Ta'avao doesn’t get a let off cos he’s a big dude. If the law changes mean that forwards need to be a bit leaner with some more open play footie skills then that’s another win. Watching wider end wider players play 50 min and then be replaced by equally oversized units is not such a great spectacle. And stop moaning about why red cards are not 20 min. Maybe when tier 1 teams have all gotten the message that head height tackles can have serious repercussions for long term player health then we can look at tweaks there but the 2nd test was not a good argument for that.

Unfortunately people see Hansens reign through rose tinted glasses. The group of players he inherited, developed and wrapped in cotton wool until england beat the abs in the world cup have long gone and no one was there to follow in their footsteps. Hardly any player development during that time and if your face didnt fit Europe or Japan was the only sensible option. It's a complete re start in my opinion and fans should not be surprised the abs are no longer at the top of the pecking order.

To listen to most fans online, you´d think all they had to do was appoint Scott Robertson and everything would be fine. It´s a wishful fantasy and belies the fact that the team have been leaning on the Crusaders for over a decade, they´ve clearly been falling behind since about 2016 and few alternatives to the current player lineup exist.

Saying Ireland pack their team wirh foreign players is way off the mark. How many overseas born players have played for NZ even in the last 15 years? Taking young lads from the islands who can barely write a paragraph under the guises of a "scholarship" doesnt make them Kiwis no matter how the NZRU dress it up. Let Tonga and Samoa have their players

Its no surprise NZ got a red card in the Lions series and continue to get red cards in the series now. Hansen didnt get it back then and they still dont get it now. Zero ability to self reflect and to be accountable.

Yes the top two teams are in the Northern Hemisphere and Ireland are one of them, and they deserved their success. That's correct and people should recognize that, but not sure I agree with the rest. Devlin starts by saying it's "one loss and the knives are out". That's bullshit from the very start. No it isn't. It's a first loss to the pumas since 1985 in a year with 2 wins two losses and a draw, it's a first loss to Ireland on NZ soil, it's a first home series loss to Ireland and a first home series loss in nearly a quarter of a century. It's four losses in the last 5 games. It's that Ireland looked highly organized and NZ didn't. It's that NZ has been playing the same style for the last 10 years and haven't changed. It's that Foster was signed off the back of a rubbish season. Hansen is a great AB coach but he was failing at the end of his reign - running out of ideas - outthought by Eddie Jones. Jones said he planned for 2 years to beat the all blacks in that semi. How could he plan for 2 years if we weren't playing the same way for all that time. Foster so far has carried that on. He needed to bring something different and he hasn't - not yet - not significantly. Even when NZ were still dominant, they were winning a lot of games off individual talent, not on tactics.

Foster has shown us all over the last 2 years that he's better suited to coach at club rugby level. He is not a test coach. Time to get rid of him and bring competence back to the black jersey.

Fozzy told us us that we are underestimating Ireland. Hansen is telling us we are under estimating Ireland. They're telling us that we can't work out that Ireland are a good team. Rubbish. We can work that out. The score shows it as well. Ireland have made great inroads. We haven't. We can work out that Ireland are playing well, look to be coached really well. Don't patronize us. We can work out all by ourselves that Ireland are a good team, we can also work out that our current coach is shit.

Hanson´s partly responsible for the condition the team finds itself in today; neglected standards at the breakdown and set piece, emphasized the run-and-pass game ahead of everything else, and didn´t refresh the lineup often enough to develop strong secondary options in key positions. The misbegotten "dual-playmaker" experiment of playing Beauden Barrett behind RItchie Moúnga occurred on his watch and has hindered both players. Likewise the perverse inability to select a consistent specialist fullback, develop a world-class front row or effectively deploy the talents of Ngani Laumape and the misuse of Ardie Savea have his fingerprints on them. Ian Foster would likely never have made it into the ABs staff, let alone head coach´s job without Steve´s endorsement.

Ireland has transformed their team based on the success of the four regions, the truth is, that Ireland is now effectively a Barbarian Team, based in the Emerald Isle, they have embraced the global stage and with a great coaching set-up, they are the number one team in World Rugby.
