The movie didn't pretend to be the next "Jaws", and they both realize that. They reviewed it for the campy sci-fi picture that it was.

Listening to Roger's review, it doesn't sound like he thought this was one of the worst movies of 1993. During their summary of the worst movies of the year, though, Roger used this movie as his worst, paying back Gene for his choice of Cop and a Half as the worst movie. Note: Roger gave Cop and a Half thumbs up. Suppose the only reason Roger did that was to get revenge on Gene?

LOL. Gene Siskel - hoarse voice and all - was *really* into this movie. 🙂 I love the giddy way in which he explains the entire plot!! It's so cute. 😊👍👍

I always love it when Siskel actually gives a thumbs up to B-Movies or schlockier type films, you know that regardless of the technical quality he just cares whether or not you can have fun with the picture. =3 I definitely consider the film I'm about to mention of a much higher quality than some B-Movies (I can't comment on Carnosaur, haven't seen it but I might check it out someday on a slow day.) but Siskel's review of From Beyond always stuck with me because it convinced me to watch that film. May not be a good representation of what Lovecraft is all about (Even if it gets some of the themes across, I s'pose) but god is it a fun B-Movie and sometimes you just need to unwind with something silly.

Siskel also gave a thumbs down to Aliens, Terminator, Die Hard, Batman (1989), Silence of the Lambs, Predator (1987), Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn, and Unforgiven. Let that linger in your mind for a moment. He thought Carnosaur was better than all of the above movies I mentioned.

He actually had a sore throat on 2 shows that year in 1993 but he got better afterwards. The other show he had a sore throat was the time they reviewed Hot Shots Part Deux and Cliffhanger to name a few.

I saw their reviews of the worst movies of 1993, and Siskel's was Cop and a Half and Ebert's was Carnosaur. However, Ebert seemed more against the movie in the worst movies episode than in this one. In fact, he said that he thought Carnosaur was one of the worst of 1993. I think the reason they previewed those two movies in the "Worst Movies" episode was just for both critics to change their minds one last time about their reviews of those two movies.

Nope. The book this is based on was written years before jurassic park, so technically that is the ripoff. I never thought of this as a bad movie, just low budget, but I think that added to the atmosphere.

For example: I strongly disagree with their review on The Fogitive, and I can give reasons to back up my opinion, while also looking at the subjectfilm as a whole. That's the technique of critisism: have your own opinion, back it up and express it in an intellectual way.
