I think Skade was added to show that it only takes one toxic person to completely alter someone’s path. Uhtred was doing fine until Skade showed up. He meets Skade who “curses” him. and Suddenly, his wife dies, his children are taken from him, his relationship with Alfred falls apart, his brother dies, and he is hunted both by the Danes and the Saxons. Then on top of that he gets sick from wounds and nearly dies. Whether or not Skade really cursed him doesn’t matter, in this time period they believed in curses. So she was the scapegoat for everything that was falling apart around Uhtred. That was the Point of Skade in the show. To be Uhted’s devil on his shoulder, constantly pulling him further away from the right path and everything bad that happens as a consequence is therefore blamed on her “Curse”. So while Uhtred and others believe in Skade’s curse as being responsible for all the bad that’s happening, In truth it’s all just reality.. Finnan said it best in one episode “Is that not just life” In the end I feel Skade was a necessary element that Uhtred needed to experience in order to overcome darkness and “Become The Light” like father Beocca said :)

I think it was also a good way to show Uhtred's character developing and maturing from where he was in earlier seasons. Skade was a beautiful woman who was desired by many men, yet Uhtred resists making her his woman and chooses to kill her, instead of embracing what would have been a certainly toxic relationship. I think the younger (and stupider) version of Uhtred would never have resisted her physical charms.

Even though in the end she obviously didn't succeed she was still such a big threat i felt. She was also very important for Uhtred‘s character development and had a big impact in the perception of the supernatural elements in the show.

EM S. But there’s no signs of Uhtred ever being manipulated by people he found attractive in earlier seasons so why wouldn’t he be able to resist her? I think she would’ve been resisted no matter what season it was.

The way i saw it was that until Gisela Uhtred was moving from woman to woman no matter the consequences, which made sense then because he was still young. But this season i thought it showed how much he had grown because even though Gisela was dead he was able to resist Skade despite the fact that she could give him power ( according to their beliefs). I think that's why a lot of people really thought that he could be stupid enough to embrace Skade and then are very surprised when he doesn't. If it was obvious from the beginning the drowning scene wouldn't really work.

azsugar People are pointing out that he wouldn’t be able to resist her, but why not? Just because he’s moved from woman to woman doesn’t mean he wouldn’t of refused her back then. The difference here is that he was told he was “cursed”. If Skade tried do the same thing in season 1, I’d expect the same outcome. Also, Uhtred will move on from Gisela in season 4 lol.

Historically Edward was a good king (many years), also his sister in Mercia, both badasses. I hope season 4 portray them as well. Because till now the build up of their character was perfect, from kids, to grown ups, rulers and warriors.

Uhtred gave Aethelwold the same sense that he is getting away with it that Aethelwold had when he was pleading with Alfred just before getting his eye burned out. So justifying. Amazing amazing amazing. Edward is getting really good at the rallying speech already! Amazing battle scene. Really love these review reactions Sith. Onto S4!

Season 3 was by far the most emotional and i believe made the show feel like a series with is own history. So many great callbacks to even small moments from season 1. I still think Season 2 was my favorite overall but S3 added a lot things the show really needed imo.

With the final book coming out this year Netflix can give us 6 or 7 seasons to close the story of the creation of England, I started reading the books as soon as the first episode of season one aired and although they have changed a lot of things the core essence of the story is still there that's all you can really ask for in an adaptation.

LetoAtreides 35 Some changes I get, others not so much. Season 3 literally isn’t even an adaptation. They completely re-wrote characters from Skade, Bloodhair, Cnut to even Brida, Æthelwold, Aldhelm etc. Although I liked season 3, I don’t think deviating so much from the books helps the show. Why deviate so heavily with the characters that are casted when the actual story is already amazing?

@@omar_elattar.6500 Yeah I understand how you feel but it was never going to be the adaptation that we wanted, since season 1 I wanted them to spend more time with young Uhtred as he grew with the danes but I understood that they needed to keep the story moving. I really like the show for what it is and I'm just glad that they keep making more seasons so that maybe more people will read the books.

LetoAtreides 35 I love the show, I’m just disappointed because just imagine how much better it would’ve been if they stuck closer to the source material? You see, I completely understand the changes in seasons 1 and 2. There wasn’t anything completely massive and they stuck fairly close to the source material. They obviously skipped over things I wish they didn’t but they only had 8 episodes. Season 3 has 10 so it should’ve been easier to adapt and yet they deviated a crazy crazy amount in this season where it ruins future storylines for certain characters.

I think season 4 will be all about the fallout surrounding Alfreds death. Uthred and his crew will wander north but I doubt Uthred will make it to Bebbernburg, he'll be too busy banging the lady of Mercia (it's about time, they keep dancing around one another since season 2) Most likely Edward will struggle hard in Wessex without Uthred and at some point Ethelflaed will call upon Uthred to fix things. He'll kill her stupid husband and she'll become the new ruler of Mercia. But by killing Etheldick Uthred will make himself an enemy of Wessex and become an outlaw again (thanks to queen mum). He'll hide in Ethelflaeds bedchamber until the next viking invasion lead by Ivar the boneless threatens Wessex. Something like that. But mark my words: Uthred and Ethelflaed will become a couple (i mean come on, it is obvious!), Queen witch mum will collude against Uthred and almost ruin Wessex, Uthred will fail taking back Bebbernburg and once Knut is gone the next big bad viking threatening England will be Ivar the boneless (season 5 i guess since season 4 is most likely all about Bebbernburg and Mercia). In addition we will all miss Alfred and his love/hate relationship with Uthred. Awesome actor.

@@celt4life979 I am sure. The ending of every season already shows what the next season will be about and the romance thing was realy, realy obvious. Yet this season managed to surprise me a couple of times and i enjoyed it a lot. Every character had time to shine and develop, but i do miss Alfred a lot. Eduard is just...i don't know...kinda annoying sometimes. My season 5 prediction (if we get season 5) didn't change. I think we will see Uthred on the road a lot and the scenery will be mostly northumbria, with Ivar the boneless as enemy and Uthreds daughter in danger forcing his hand. Still p..... about his decisions in Mercia though.

Ian Hart who plays Beocca is great in his role. I’ll get it out of the way, but I hated Thyra’s death. Some bullshit that was. Was just done for shock value and was unnecessary. Apparently had something to do with Brexit lol. That speech by Uhtred to Edward is actually one of my favourite moments from Alexander in the show. I haven’t been a big fan of Uhtred and I’m still not either, but Alexander done really well in that scene. Read the books because book Uhtred is amazing! I agree about Harry McEntire. He done a tremendous job with his character even though I thought he went from comic relief to full on villain a bit too quick. That death was satisfying as fuck though lol. The battle I expected more from to be honest, especially since the battle in the books is so rich in detail it’s crazy. However, I did enjoy it. It was strong finale, but definitely the weakest of the show. Hahaha you’re right about the time jump. There will most likely be a 8-10 year time jump like in the books, however, Uhtred doesn’t actually help Edward with his ruling. Edward funnily enough isn’t a major character in the books. His early years is when he’s most close with Uhtred but they kinda didn’t follow that so I’m sure we’ll see them deviate and give him a bigger role in season 4. I haven’t been fond of Timothy yet as an actor but his look in season 4 is a lot better and hopefully he performs because he has big boots to fill. My two favourite characters and actors are dead. I absolutely loved Alfred. He literally held the season. Forget about Uhtred, Alfred is the key man for me. David Dawson’s portrayal of the character has made Alfred one of my favourite characters of all time. Æthelwold was great too and Harry McEntire as I mentioned was so so good. They’ll both be missed and I don’t know how Edward and Æthelflaed will ever be able to carry the show as Alfred did. I’ve got high hopes for season 4 and I’ll be binge watching it tomorrow morning, the whole season lol. This has been a crazy but worthwhile journey. This show is one of my favourites of all time. Whilst I think season 3 is the weakest season, I still enjoyed a lot of it, especially Alfred’s scene with Uhtred. David Dawson killed that scene bloody hell. I think this season would’ve benefited from 8 episodes and without Skade and could’ve developed Bloodhair more whereas seasons 1 and 2 would’ve helped with 10 episodes lol. All we got to do is hope they kind of stick close to the source material though now they’ve kind of fucked it. I really can’t wait for the new characters though, fuck Cnut lol. Again, this has been one hell of a journey. I’m so glad you reacted to this show. I have my doubts for season 4 because of how much they’ve deviated but I think it’ll still be great, hopefully lol. Nah Thyra's death was great. It presented the division in Wessex/England at the time and had a very direct effect on Beocca as a character. It had both a message and an effect, all in all, that's a well written death.

The Saxons didn’t just kill women for no reason. She was married to Beocca, Alfred’s close advisor. It was unnecessary and stupid for me. Just done for complete shock value.

She assumed he was merely scaring her in the hall and left feeling distressed but not fearing for her life. You can see a change in attitude when she realises he has stalked her out of the building and isn't stopping. By this point, however, it's too late. She decides to go to the safest place she knows- her home. And what do you mean it was related to Brexit? lol

Season 4 was least favorite. With that said, I loved the first 3 episodes but that's it. The writing wasn't as good. Season 2 is my favorite except the storyline with Bjorn rising from the dead 😕. Still a great show and I enjoyed it more than Vikings. The phenomenally talented Travis Fimmell is the only reason Vikings was worth watching in my opinion.
