Dear Mark ... I have wondered for a long time, what happened to your teaching/coaching job that you had during Bigger, Stronger, Faster? No disrespect intended. Proud owner of red and blue slingshots. :)

Rabbit Starvation: it's not bullshit. Many people have died in areas full of wild rabbits, despite eating over a dozen a day. They don't have any bodyfat in the wild, and sorry, but the human body DOES need all three macronutrients to survive. You can survive a short time without one or another, but fats are required across the board, obviously, since your entire body structure requires lipids to recreate and repair cell membranes, to cushion each individual muscle fiber, and to create chemicals for neurological function.

The only distinction that I don't feel was adequately looked at was "pushing the limits" There is a natural and unnatural version of this. Obviously taking banned substances will allow you to create a new potential for yourself... or why the hell would you use them? I know the IPF is considered to be a tested federation, and the federation used in the majority of countries outside of the US. Are there people in this federation taking roids..... obviously, but there are no records being set without multiple drug tests being administered. I guess it comes down to what do you consider to be natural: 1. never taken steroids ever 2. Have not taken steroids for an extended period of time. Either way, for my own health, I will avoid taking roids but I still respect those who decide it's for them and dedicate themselves to pushing their limits.
@TeamFaxtion10 жыл бұрын
Very hard to challenge a world record clean. That's just the truth. But thankfully we can still push the individual limits clean. I never took anything, yet trained just as the unclean trained. Never had a problem. My only advantage was my history of American football (powerlifting training was never as hard as football). I was in good shape, but that's just it. Anyone can get in shape to lift, it just takes time. That is the nice thing about drugs. They do reduce the wait, and make the party last a bit longer.
@Edgesundermined10 жыл бұрын
Ryan Rousell would be another example, but these cases are rare, and most of their records do not stand any longer.

This is another great episode but it seems that you guys (who used to speak out very harshly against drugs) are turning the corner with drugs, are you guys now pro drugs for people who are not in a sport where it's illegal?
@TeamFaxtion10 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's ever about being "pro" drugs. It's more about restoring balance to the discussion. We cannot let the taboo get in the way of the evidence, and honest, productive discussion. The fact is that drugs are in the mix, always have been, always will be in some form or another. If we're ever going to make progress, it starts with honest discussion. That's our position. Cheers, Chris

I've never liked powerlifting. I guess some people prefer it for their own purposes. I lift weights to build muscles, for aesthetic reasons, not to get stronger, which is a completely different thing. I prefer the artistic nature of sculpting a body worthy of a reflection of a Greek statue. I'd rather be like that than look bulky or even fat but super strong.

There's a ton of powerlifters that have amazing physiques. They are not all fat
@Watcher41879 жыл бұрын
TeeKay Fat powerlifters are somewhat going out of style as nutrition becomes more and more important in competition. Point being, if you are 205 at 12% body fat you will have a competitive edge compared to someone who is 205 at 20% body fat. Not to mention that many elite level body builders, Arnold, Coleman, etc, all suggest you do heavy low rep lifting to assist your muscle building hypertrophy work. As Mark Bell says, “Strength is never a weakness.”

I will never understand people's obsession with bigger muscles. These people all live in a developed world; there is no need to bench press 700 lbs.
@TeamFaxtion10 жыл бұрын
Would you say the same of any sport? Marathon? Cycling long distances? Is there any point to putting a ball in a net or through posts? High diving? Etc. There is no real point, other than the pursuit of mastery. In this case it's strength. You do it because it feels great. The competition is exciting. The company is excellent. All that.
@supertraining0610 жыл бұрын
I agree. But this is a screwed up we created. We are in it now and we are fucked.
@double0dot0110 жыл бұрын
Robert Newberry Sorry if I made an accidental combination of "developed country" and "first-world country." You can easily interpret what was meant.
@double0dot0110 жыл бұрын
Robert Newberry One more thing: I just looked this up, and according to dictionary.com, "developed world" isn't incorrect: it is "the nations of the world which are considered more economically and technologically advanced; industrialized nations." [Edit because you're a pedant]: I just didn't specify that they live in THE developed world. ;)

I'm not impressed by people who 'got there' using steroids. I'm marginally impressed by people who get jacked without drugs, but at least that's an impressive accomplishment, and something worth emulating to a point. But hey, at the end of the day, we're talking about looks and strength. There's much more to life than just that. Other things. Good things; that money, fame, and glances from hot chicks can't get you.
@tgruber51508 жыл бұрын
I know guys who can play in that space without steroids. I find that impressive. I'm not impressed by people who feel they can only get there with steroids.
