Its been a very long 2-3 months since Covid-19 took the world by storm. With no skating rinks open skaters were left with a thirst for the SkateLyfe. With skating rinks now reopened in Atlanta, Memorial day weekend was my first voyage back into doing what I love!

For those of you continuing your educational covid comments, every skater is aware of covid and all of them are aware that they have a choice of what they want to do with their health and life. Allow others to make decisions for themselves without judging based off of your fear. This video was meant to relieve your mind from the stresses of having to think about it daily. Skating rinks are doing all they can as other business establishments to stop the spread. Ex. Temperature checks, hand sanitizer, and requiring masks at the door. It is hard to do strenuous activities such as skating with a mask on so that is why you see so many skaters without them. Do as you will with your life, no one is judging you. Stef what we do in the winter as our local roller rink isn’t our thing,we hire big sports halls for like (£25 per hour) have it all to ourselves and can take my grandson in his baby carrier with no one speed skating around us,we take our own music and lights and just have the whole place too ourselves ❤️❤️

I love that our culture is still skating, I’m 50 yrs old and I still skate. I just can’t with with styles other than up North; Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. We are artistic skaters.

When I was young I would go skating on Friday and Saturday nights. I could never skate backwards though. I was a speed demon going forward. When it came time for couples skate the girl would always have to skate backwards for me 😂. I could even do the "shoot the duck". 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Oh to be young again. I've been itching to get back to the floor. Ours is on a 'scheduled attendance' basis as of last weekend. We're still limited to not more than 50 people indoors. We're the last (roller) skating rink in Western Oregon, save for Salem. Springfield went under in 2018, Medford failed in 2015. Salem is said to have one, though I've never set tire on it. Portland has one within an amusement park, I've also not seen the inside of it. Thing about it, ya'll are good at the rhythm and jam skating. I'm tuned for forward speed. Consistently top 10 fastest on our floor. More often top 5. The 'Feature' group knows one another well. We all compete against one another in weekly racing. Our fastest skater over a 2 lap race takes a half-lap grid penalty, I take a 30 feet grid penalty, and the rest are heads-up at the starting line. My short scrawny legs only get me up to speed so quick. Plus, our fastest skaters are on speed-bred inline skates. I use derby-built quads which just adds to the 'disadvantage' I have. But we'll lean on each other and pinch each other to the top or bottom lanes on our one-groove flat track. I have to try to make them go to the outside or cut into the corner too shallow and force them to wash up the track so I can give the crossover coming out of the corners. All they have to do is have a good head of steam that'll scare me enough into moving out of the lane, if I catch it at the right time they still push the middle of the corner too hard and wash up anyway. I recall about 8 years ago, before they put in an 8-competitor limit for a single heat, we were 6 wide off the second turn on the first lap, with me right up against the wall. I think that grid was 10 or 12 skaters. I ended up finishing 3rd in that race. You couldn't fit a tire between each of us once we got onto the back straight - and we were 3 by 3 by the time we got into the third corner. To put it into perspective, the lap times during the speed skate sessions average in the 13 second brackets. Yeah, small floor - Especially considering how insanely packed the floor would get on the busy nights. Could easily have used a floor 30% larger.
