Several points during the episodes I was thinking "why does this need to go like a steam train, plowing through these scenes in seconds?" and then a few scenes that could've used some tighter pacing drrraaaaaaagggeeeeeddd oooooooooonnnnn. The finale was way too quick. I could've gone for two more episodes exploring what happened to Captain Rennod and when, how and who created the colonies etc. But, overall, very fun show.

I like that Jod's unwillingness to commit to full villain was ultimately his undoing, as he let the kids off easy several times in this episode. Knowing his trainee background, mixed with his flavor of "no attachments", mixed with his envious feelings toward the kids' 'ideal' upbringing, mixed with his current lifestyle of piracy...worked to make him an interesting conflicted antagonist at the end. The parents did what they had to do to, but it was entirely Jod ruminating on his weakness that gave Wim's dad the opening he needed to go full protective parent.

@@sandal_thong The sheer amount of credits immediately injected into the economy probably fucked a lot of systems, though.... ....you know, one could made this the starting point of what made New Republic so economically crippled in the years leading up to the Sequel that whatever the hell the First Order is could spread their power relatively unopposed. (The sequel still suck. Nothing can be done about that. Just that the lead-up could be turn into something somewhat watchable.)
@sandal_thong
@sandal_thong 13 күн бұрын
@ Nonsense. The credits could work like a reserve currency, just as dollars backing local currency stops hyper-inflation in troubled countries. And they could pay off the debts of the New Republic. There's talk about Earth dictators stealing enough money from their country to pay off their national debt. Once that happens, the New Republic no longer has to institute austerity to satisfy their creditors, like the IMF and World Bank imposes on weak countries. Then they could do New Deal stimulus programs. The result would be 30 years of growth and prosperity.
@sandal_thong
@sandal_thong 13 күн бұрын
@@PaiSAMSEN Nonsense. At Attin's credits could be the reserve currency for the New Republic, just like countries that have hyper-inflation use dollars to stabilize. Investing in the New Republic could allow them to pay off their debts, so they could end austerity, likely imposed by the Banking Clan (like the IMF and World Bank use) to protect creditors. Then they could start stimulus programs and investments like the New Deal. Other worlds then would believe the New Republic would be likely to survive and join it, increasing the tax base.

Side note: I think Jod would be a great character to explore in a “Tales of” story. He’s an extremely well written character and even if he’s the villain (which Jude did an excellent job playing as), I can’t help but feel bad for him to, knowing what his upbringing was given the fact he is a former supposed “Jedi” apprentice and what he implied happened (his master being killed by the clones/inquisitors) to him before he met the kids. It’s a tragic story as he merely is acting out how he was taught to. He has no family or allies left which is why he only values credits and power. I think it was great to explore this outcome of a post Order 66 survivor, as we have only explored Jedi who wish to continue the order like Cal or Jedi who take on an apprentice like Kanan.

Very rushed, but almost all the episodes were like this, or ended abruptly. Hyperspace takes as long as plot requires it. I think Tatooine to Alderaan in the Radio Drama took most of a day, because Ben spends hours training Luke with a lightsaber, more than just the few minutes in the movie. But if you think At Attin is near the core worlds, then maybe it doesn't take long in hyperspace to go system to system. But the star field looks like our own night sky and not what you might see near the center of a galaxy. Kh'ymm should have said, "Wow, these coordinates are so close to..." and broke off. Yeah, no epilogue. We should have had an exit blurb, like the intro blurb telling how piracy was running rampant. I can imagine it saying, the kids gave the coordinates of the pirate base for the New Republic to take out. And At Attin funded the New Republic's military efforts to eradicate piracy as well as projects to improve quality of life in the galaxy so people wouldn't need to resort to piracy in the first place. So worlds under the New Republic would have 30 years of relative peace and prosperity.

I think the reason the director focused on Jod in that scene in the tower was because the whole time he was lecturing them how no one will come to save them and I think he genuinely believed that. He was raised by a Jedi with good values, but once they were killed he became pessimistic. He lost any hope of good in the galaxy and hence why he turned to piracy. Fern also tells her mom there’s still good people out there which leads into Jods scene in the tower where he finally recognizes that there is actually good people left in the galaxy who are willing to help (don’t think he really cares about his pirate buddies lol). Understanding this part in the show or at least believing this is what they were going for really made me emotional during that scene. That is the message of Star Wars, “Hope”!!! 😊

Short answer: yes, although the ending in some ways was a bit rushed in a few answers, I still loved this show and it reignited my love for Star Wars again. Like another person commented, it’s many ways like Andor and in many ways it stands as its own show with its own uniqueness. A truly fun story in the Star Wars galaxy that doesn’t need to connect directly with the larger plot, which is why I think it is so good. It is its own thing.

Wow. What an amazing ride of a series. Speaking for myself, it felt so nice to actually feel like I was watching STAR WARS again. For the first time in years. To clarify, I loved Rogue One and Andor but neither of them really feel like GEORGE'S Star Wars. I can't see a world where approves of that movie or show. But this, THIS felt like Lucas Star Wars. It gave me all those emotions I felt as a kid. I felt like I was on the ride, I was on the adventure. This show gave me chills, it made me laugh, it made me cry (laugh if you insist) but to me that is the best of Star Wars and all I could ever ask for or want. Skeleton Crew was the first time I felt like I was watching something George would have done. And the show will always have a place in my heart for that. This was the best Star Wars Disney has given us, excluding the animated shows. I know this opinion is probably not popular. I just loved this show so much. I know we're probably in for much more garbage content in the future, so I'm going to soak in this feeling while I still can.

It leaves the story with pieces and elements that can be used and defined later, in whatever timeframe passes before we can revisit these characters and settings again. For example, if (as seemed hinted at) Wim ends up becoming a Republic fighter pilot, it could be part of his story that he could love telling people about where he came from (and thus provide the exposition for the audience) and the adventure that set him on the pilot's path. Nothing in whatever unknown future this piece of the franchise has is unnecessarily locked in, leaving teh doors wide open for developing the next story.

Pretty much exactly how I thought it would all go down after episode 4. Obscuring Tak Rennod's face in episode 5 misled me into thinking he'd more likely than not be the supervisor and thus a villain worse than Jod. However, I never gave any significance to the headless statue; to me, it was just a random dictator before society collapsed. Anyway, the fighters shooting down the frigate right above the city took me out of it a little bit, but other than that, it was a very competent, very fun ending. Very Amblin. The kids had completely believable plans that worked out thanks to a little bit of luck and Jod not being without scruples. And the last we saw of him, he was smirking in an "oh well" way. I do expect he slips away either immediately or after apprehended by the New Republic, and they just didn't want to commit to any details yet. And Wim definitely plans to enlist.

I don't feel like it was really even supposed to be a mystery or red herring, Star Wars fans just always assume someone is someone else. It's really strange to me. After SM-33 told them that Rennod's concubine stabbed him with his own knife before the ship crashed, I figured that the skeleton staked to a wall with a knife in it was him. I think his coat in the holo even matches the one Jod scrounged from the bodies.

Instead of WYSIWYG "What you see is what you get" this was "what they say is what you get." Jod said the holo quality wasn't important and it wasn't important what he looked like. Adults want theories and twists. The last couple episodes pointed to Supervisor being a droid, but they kept it from us that Fara (and perhaps others) knew that. Brutus had it in for Jod, maybe from the start. I think he set up the freighter to be a cluster: he gave Jod false intel that it had treasure, then he told the freighter that pirates were coming to murder them, even if they surrendered so they fought to the death. But he didn't say that before he died.

The droids seem to handle all of the stuff with the mint just fine, so why were they so intent on turning the kids into analysts, accountants, and systems coordinators? Why did they need to learn risk management when At Attin had no outside trade? I was kind of hoping that this would be intertwined with Tak Rennod and the banking clan. Tak could make cash on the side as the “supervisor” by selling financial services to the banking clan by raising generations of financial analysts like prized race horses.

Even though it ended as I figured it would, I felt a bit let down, mainly due to the way they got to this ending. Jod was menacing at first, and then just seemed to lose his menacing nature right at the crucial time. A greedy, Force sensitive man with a zillion credit mint in his possession and he first gets waylaid by a punch and then gets into a silly grabbing match with Wim’s dad instead of just pulling out his blaster (which we see him holding after the barrier goes down) and either shooting Wim’s dad or threatening Fern or Wim or Fern’s mom with it to regain control, instead he struggles to keep Wim’s dad from pulling a lever. It just seemed so… trite. A ship full of pirates all over town and yet none of them really did anything except chase the kids on speeder bikes. The Supervisor was a droid like everyone expected and apparently the last contact they had with the rest of the galaxy was right around Order 66, but shouldn’t Palpatine have known about At Atin and wouldn’t he have still used it for his purposes after Order 66 time? Jod’s past as a padawan of a post-Order 66 Jedi (who likely was killed by Inquisitors) who died in front of him, explains some things, and maybe he was mostly bluff instead of menace, but at the beginning of the episode he seemed much more diabolical and in control and as soon as the barrier goes down, he just loses all hope and all the wind goes out of his sails. There was a hint of guilt and shame about him, but it didn’t really get addressed and we don’t really know if he escapes the New Republic forces, or gets captured. The big ship full of pirates got easily taken out by a squadron of X and B-Wings and there really wasn’t much battle at all. I guess I’d have to say that the ending had one of those 1980s kid movies style of endings, where the children are the real heroes, the parents have to rely on them to save the day and the bad guys don’t take out anyone out of spite (other than the Supervisor who was a droid). Even 33 survived. I think I just expected something a bit more epic, a bit more complete and satisfying. We didn’t see who the mysterious pirate captain was, the headless statue on that one planet had no real bearing on the story, Jod’s ‘backstory’ was a mere paragraph, and we don’t even know why the Onyx Cinder was buried there to begin with or why. I think we deserved at least five more minutes of answers and maybe a bit of an epilogue or something.

I agree with you in a way as it seemed to end without a real fight. I do though think what they were going for..was he after thinking about his past and those feelings coupled with thinking the girl had died when the ship came down he was beginning to feel regret and then once barriers down the whole point is gone because it's now no longer hidden and eventually he would be defeated so I think he gave up. He will probably take a ship and some credits and flee.. that's what should of happened I think. when the barrier went down he should of ran off and left them in the tower and tried to escape but got caught.

One of the things I was upset with the show is how Wim seemed like a rather boring character, rarely acting with agency. Here, all the main characters acted with a lot of agency and heroics. Wim stood up directly to try to fool Jod, Neel totally went non-pacifisitic with the giant laser gun, KB was willing to go solo to find help, and Fern was basically had to deal with being captive with Jod. Also, the order 66 references were really nice touch. Honestly, every reference to it strengthens the overall continuity of Star Wars. Huge events have huge consequences and should be felt in many projects going forward. Id love the chance to talk about this point more with you.

The fact that Jod stayed up in the tower after marveling over The Great Work, there is no more Supervisor and Wim takes a good, long, focused look at the Onyx Cinder, it leaves so much wide and open for further adventures of everyone involved. To tell you the truth, Thor, I've got myself clapping when it ended! 😂 I absolutely agree, we want more answers, but... This series was 10/10 for me! Even episode 4 payed off! And, who knows... But I hope the story continues someway. We could get answers somewhere else, perhaps a season 2... I don't know, but something!

The finale was very well executed! The supervisor being a droid gave a nice Wizard of Oz feel to it. Character development was great, kids were awesome, the effects were spot on and the pace was amazing! Actually got a lump in my throat when I saw the Tantative IV model ship arriving with the New Republic XWings! A solid story even though it wasn’t really a SW show. Wym getting the lightsaber and finding his true calling when he saw the XWings was a nice touch! Thumbs up from a die hard SW fan!

Even if it does not get a deserved 2nd season, it was a great adventure series like Star Wars should be. I’d love to see the fate of At-Planets in other series, and Jod Na Nawood rivals Hondo for best pirate in Star Wars

I don't think we need a season 2 of Skeleton Crew; I don't think the story they told warrants it, and it was wrapped up nicely. However, I WOULD like to see the characters show up somewhere else at some point. Honestly, thumbs up for Disney on this one.

Was this finale too short. Yes. Was it a little cheesy and far fetched. Yes Did the vfx look good. Not really. Was it a fun star wars show that was lighthearted and character driven. In my opinion, it was.

Look forward to watching the final episode. Even if the series doesn't get a second season, the way that Episode 8 ended feels like a fitting conclusion to Skeleton Crew. I like the idea of a comic, novel or even a miniseries exploring the origins of Jod.

Hey Thor We did get an answer to at least something: what became of that pirate from Mando S3! (so glad we closed that loop) but seriously if there was anything that actually earned an extra season from Disney+ of late, it was this show!

They still have to build some stuff towards another season in case they got one. They revealed the supervised. Things like the headless statue is just a cool image. Sometime fans make a bigger deal than what’s is meant to be. Enjoyed the finale. Hopes there’s more. The kids deserve it and it’s nice that Jude law got a win after the ending of his last franchise.

Jod probably saw the jedi lady who took him in and trained him as a mother so when she was killed it messed him up and is what sent him down his path as a pirate. It's surprising that the inquisitors didn't take him when they killed his master given he's force sensitive.

Perfect ending for fans who love to Theory-Craft. Whilst theres lots if unanswered questions they weren't left in a way that felt forced or annoying either. One theory already out there is that due to Remnant infiltration much of the money in At Attin is how the First Order gets started.

After the barrier went down, I was fully expecting Jod to kill or at least injure someone but he surrendered a little too easily. He should've taken a more "what have I got to lose now?" attitude. The end was a bit rushed. The supervisor wasn't too much of a surprise. Seeing those X-Wings and B-Wings gave me chills, I started making blaster noises when the battle was going down. I knew KB wasn't going to die; there's no way Disney would do that, but I still felt sadness when her ship went down and as the other kids were in shock. I don't see a season 2 only because the story wrapped up and there's nothing more to carry over. If they left an after credits scene that hinted at a season 2 then I would be fully on board. Disney's true test is what their next Star Wars series/movie is. Remember, everyone, just because this one show of one season was good doesn't mean Star Wars is back or anything. Disney can still put out some dog shit after this.

Clones don't make kids watch their Masters die, they get the job done. His Master was killed by inquisitors. Multiple ones since he said "they", so his Master may have been formidable. Female and disheveled like him. Who knows? I propose an animated spinoff where after the pain and anguish of ending back into the gutter he gets into Hondo Ohnaka's crew. He shows his abilities and the inquisitors as well as greedy pirates seek to capture him for their own gain, so he hides them. He sees money as a chance to save people like him by being spares of the suffering he went through and it's worth any cost, because that's what it takes. He kills Hondo, deceives, over and over again and is proud to be that kind of person. Flash forward to standing in that tower. He was relieved he was defeated, that he didn't have to do all that and could stop going down this pursuit of hate. He thought the galaxy was more dark than it was because that's all he saw, but those kids reminded him how present good is and had faith in the New Republic now and decides to stop running. That what his Master stood for is alive by just seeing Wim and his friends, family fight for each other. Those little scraps of good was worth killing for, and he saw it in excess without spilling a drop of blood. And that was a fair trade for all the gold in At Attin.

Hey, Thor! I want to say that I'm officially greatful to you!💖 These were your first reaction vids, that convinced me to consider giving it a try, and now I'm glad that I did. Watched the last ep tonight. In a sense, it's 'an Andor for kids'. The characters were written and played well, and the story actually made sense (which is a huge pro nowdawys, when some shows look like they were AI-generated). Show touched plenty of themes, but at no point was it offensively moralizing. Thanks for your efforts in explaining peopel that it's not shit. Disney owes you. 😆

What amazes me about this finale isn't just that it was so good, but that it COULD have fallen apart at the last minute and didn't. They avoided every trap. Jod could have done a stupid, sudden redemption face turn-- instead, he was a complex, conflicted villain. The secret about the vaults of credit could have suddenly tied into funding the First Order -- instead, it was what it was, maybe there will be more to it later with proper buildup, maybe there won't be, either way is fine.

⭐️ When Jod revealed that he was trained by a Jedi, who was later hunted down, I immediately thought about Order 66. ⭐️
