I like the concise way you explain SketchUp. I don't use it often enough to remember the shortcuts so I come back to your tutorials as a refresher. Control brings up copy has stuck with me! Well done.

I started using SketchUP last week. I love all the tips and tricks. Maybe someone else on youtube is already doing this, but I haven't found anything as good as this video yet. It is a nice value added that you provide over some of the other great handy wood workers.

Thank you so much for sharing your videos Jay! You make it look so easy, I finally decided to stop with the excuses and learn how to use Sketchup. Your videos and those of others really inspire me, but I kept dragging my feet and enough is enough. It may take me some time, but I'm gonna learn how to use the software, thanks again! :)

Great video Jay! I've just end started using sketchup. This was a wonderful example of the tool and what it can be used for. Thanks,

Well done Jay. I've watched sketch up vids by some of the quote gurus and none explain it as well and useful as you do. Some I've watch were not trying to help but show off. Sorry for the rant but you do a great job Jay.

Thanks for the SketchUp videos! There's always something to learn, even if it's an alternative like using the 2-D export instead of using printscreen. Keep up the great work!

Jay Bates ManhattanWoodProject I wanted to suggest using "Snipping Tool" in windows as an alternative to Print Screen...basically just go to Start Menu -> Accessories -> Snipping Tool...right click on the application and choose Properties...then in the Shortcut key field give it a shortcut...I used "Ctrl + Alt + D"...now if you are in any program such as Sketchup you can press your shortcut key and the Snipping Tool launches which lets you select a portion of the screen as an image...

I use the snipping tool a lot for general grabs and non high resolution stuff. Great tip on the shortcut though. Haven't thought about that.

Jay thanks for these videos they are awesome. I tried using the crossing technique you use at 1:31 but when I do the whole circle is selected, not just the top half. Any idea?

You did that as quick (if not quicker) than I could have with pencil and paper. Since it's almost a triangle, guessing you will cut two plates from one board. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent mini tutorial. I use BigPrint a lot when I need to duplicate a part. I just take a picture with a scale of some sort visible and then create the template with BigPrint.

I like the bracket. But I was very impressed with your SketchUp skills. I'm only starting to learn. My question is how long did it take you to become proficient? At this point, I get frustrated and go to pencil and paper long before I ever get very far into the program. I've paid for the WWGOA Class and have taken part of the class and will take it in its entirety, but I just wanted to know from a user, how long it takes to become proficient. In my former life, I was able to master the Microsoft suite of products (Access, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc), but I'm older now and this dog doesn't learn like he used to.

What is an "Alfa Line" and how do I do it?
@cool69rtcharger10 жыл бұрын
I normally just print it at scale from within sketchup as long as it under the size of one piece of paper it isn't really a problem to do that
@JayBates10 жыл бұрын
cool69rtcharger Yes, that is one option. But I wanted to include the BigPrint option so others could use it on larger projects.
