I could have watched another hour, I know I’ll watch it at least once more to make notes of the conifer names. Please come back again in the winter and a follow up every year or in two years to see the growth would certainly be watched. It’s just so impressive, the thoughtful choice of conifers, the locations and companion plants, the concepts in the vegetable gardens, it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen and Bruce knows the names of everything. To plan a landscape from scratch is a challenge, he is obviously very good at this. His neighbours must be appreciative of the borrowed view, i certainly would be.

Bette, you're very nice. Thank you. God created us all different but I'm not much of a planner. I kinda know in my head what I want and go with it. My gardens start small and then evolve around that. Flying by the seat of my pants in other words. In the future Justin plans to list the plant names on the screen as we talk about them. Appreciate you watching.

Thank you Sunny Day. The Lord has blessed me to enjoy this. My grandparents were very clean gardeners. My grandfather was known in the rural town I grew up in has having the cleanest gardens. His rows were straight and not a weed in sight. So I must have gotten that from him. Although he farmed the traditional way. Tractor and plow. My raised beds and no dig methods might get a curious look from him today. Ha!

@bruceduncan1792
@bruceduncan1792 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks E. Yes, we do get snow some. two maybe three times. It usually disappears within a week. Once in a while we get a dumping of two feet or so and it may stick around longer. Winters in the Western Carolina foothills can go from sunny and high's in the 60's for a few days and then temps not getting out of the 20's a few days. And back and forth like that all season. By that time my beds will have cabbage, collards, carrots, kale, chard, and other cool weather crops. And our snows are usually not enough to kill them. We have more problems with ice and freezing rain than snow.

Thank you Gloria. Don't worry about errors. You will always have them. Like weeds. But finding ways to lesson their impact is good. I lose plants sometimes but I'm not afraid to try different things. It's definitely a learning curve. And rewarding as well.

Thanks Sophie. Yes! We plan to be back Fall and Winter. Hope I didn't oversell the Winter. My conifers that change color need really cold weather. Here in the Foothills of Western Carolina our winters vary from year to year. Last year was mild and I didn't get the color I expected from some of these plants but we will see what 22-23 brings.

Beautiful! Thank you, Bruce, for showing us your garden. Excellent use of color and texture. Not many people understand the importance of having that in a garden, but you certainly do. Loved your vegetable garden and I'll be using your technique shown at the end of the video of gardening along a fence in a strip. I'd love to see more garden tours and would especially love to revisit this one in Winter. Thanks very much! ~ Lisa

Wow! If only my garden centers had those conifers. If you go to universal islands of adventure at the Harry Potter world they also did a great job putting conifers together. It inspired me to do that one day.

Well thank you Yvonne. We do plan to be back fall and winter. Here in the foothills of western NC sometimes we get very mild winters. And conifers need really cold air to change hues but none the less, I think they improve the winter landscape even without much change. We will see what this winter brings here. Thanks again for your kind comments and watching.

An amazingly beautiful garden space. A love of conifers is evident but the variety of plants here is just so impressive. And, the vitality of the plants is a testimonial to your compost and soil applications. I am in zone 7 in Virginia so I understand perfectly clay soil and humidity, a deadly combination. A gorgeous example of a committed gardener, and a knowledgeable man who has great taste.

Hi Maureen, thanks for the kind words. Julie and I took a few days recently and car toured VA via the Parkway. She's a teacher and off for the summer. We loved it. Good Luck with the clay and humidity. HA! I feel your pain.
