I own one and also own a Delta Unisaw. I think you expect too much of the saw. It's a great saw and one of the better "job site" saws on the market. Flimsy throat plate, while not ideal, it certainly not a major flaw that would warrant returning the saw for a new one. At least IMHO. For $299, there is nothing that even comes close to the features of this Skil Table saw.

Realized someone sells a better throat plate and the next one at the store was no better. It's not that expensive for Skil to provide a better throat plate if saws of similar pricing can offer one.

They now come with metal throat plates.@@therealSIRBOOM

I totally agree. I always make my own throat plates mostly out of leftover vinyl planking. Also I use zero clearance tape if need be.

I've owned this saw for a year. It hasn't held up. The motor is failing and the bolts on the tilt/lift and toolless blade adjustment unthread during use causing the blade to go out of alignment while in operation. This is all covered under warranty but the first place Skil had me bring the saw had it for 2 weeks before informing me that they recently stopped working with Skil and to pick up my saw. The second place skil sent me said the electrical issues alone would necessitate a full replacement. Skil is willing to replace it but by the time they do ill have been without my table saw for well over a month. I asked if there was an upgrade path to buy into the 10" worm drive in hopes it's more robust but no such luck. It's a shame, but it looks like the saw just isn't built to last and the warranty has been a real pain to execute. Good luck to others but I want other buyers to be wary that this might not be the best saw for them long term.

The throat plate is metal in the new version. Try to buy the one in the black box, not the gray.

I have this saw in New Zealand. Interesting that the insert plate is now metal. I am happy with my plastic insert plate. I had no problem adjusting the riving knife but slotted the bottom of it si it was no longer captive. Saves a bit of time when using a dado stack which this saw has plenty of power to use. How did you not die letting that bit of wood sit in the saw with nothing holding it while the blade was spinning?

Thank you for the video. I was getting to the point where I was going to buy one. But the longer the video ran the more the negative points piled up. I’ll have to see one set up in the flesh. Maybe this was a one-off. I’m retired, paying the going price for the saw is a reasonably impactful purchase. But I don’t want, or need, a tool that cuts close enough for framing. Maybe I should stick with hand tools? I’m looking at comments and see some hope in the newer model, though.

I mean, it's a cheap table saw and they really did a good job from an overall value perspective compared to how bad cheap saws tend to be. It's a GOOD CHEAP table saw. Looks like now you can get replacement custom zero clearance plates from Etsy (just google search), and that plate problem is effectively solved -- just annoying you'd have to do that. The great thing about this saw is it's not BIG and it's LIGHT (for a table saw). The motor is loud as sin compared to others, but that's what ear muffs are for, and it's surprisingly powerful. I just was trying to cut some basic stuff and kept encountering that lip on the plate lip and other things and I just opened the wallet more and got something else. I am someone that just needs to be seamlessly comfortable with power saws... I do not like to fight them.

I have the same saw and I have the same issue with the blade Insert plus my fence isn't a full 90 degrees
@maxmotors94977 күн бұрын
You can adjust the fence just like any of the other features that you should be able to adjust. Why would you think it would be exactly square after shipment? Of course it is possible but most of the time some adjustment is needed, and if you aren’t capable of this you might not need to operate a table saw.

Did you check the table top if it's nice and flat?
@therealSIRBOOM11 ай бұрын
It was as flat as it needs to be for a job site saw. Nothing obvious to complain about there.

Shake your head man. To expect perfection from this level!!. Open your wallet. Then you won't have to whine.

I'm shaking my head, it's not doing anything to give me more money in the wallet. Will continue to whine.

You might want to read the manual on using the fence.... Dangerous operation
@therealSIRBOOM11 ай бұрын
You are correct. I don't advocate using the saw the way I did to demonstrate it's ability to cut through common lumber and the noise it makes in the process. This is not a tutorial on how to use a table saw. Thanks for your concern.

My plate is plastic, not even metal.
@therealSIRBOOM Жыл бұрын
I think mine is indeed metal based on clanking it against something hard, but I could be wrong.
@JW-rd1bk11 ай бұрын
I believe this varies by region maybe. Mine is also plastic, and only comes with the smaller riving knife which is captive and can't be removed, not the second one shown here with the blade guard integrated in to it. Same model number as well. Mine is from Canada. The plastic plate however isn't open at the back like this one so less of an issue with the two separate ends twisting

Preamp volume TOO LOW. WHAT YOU SAY? Yes, random material shims needed. What do you expect from cheap saw? Skip.
