Skillopedia - 04 effective ways to survive office politics - (Soft Skills & Personality Development)
Blog : www.learnex.in/ways-to-survive...
In this Skillopedia session Niharika will share a few tips with you on how to deal with office politics. If you are a working individual at some point or the other you may be a victim of office politics or may witness it at your workplace. In this session you will learn how to find your way out of such situations and maintain a positive mindset at work.
Examine yourself.
Yes you need to first understand if you are just over reacting or if your colleague or boss is actually creating issues for you at work. Perform a self-analysis to understand yourself and your reactions to situations and people. Make sure it is not just a bad temper that’s making you feel this way and only then decide if you actually need to bother about someone creating any issues for you at work.
Approach the person you are facing issues with.
Yes it is a good idea to walk up to the person and have a genuine discussion. The important thing to remember is that, this has to be a one on one discussion i.e. it has to be in private. Since you are working in a corporate world, it’s very important to not let your emotions get the better of you and create a scene in front of your coworkers. Do make sure that the person understands how much their actions have troubled you and resolve the situation in a professional manner.
Share your experience with your friends or a trusted colleague.
A situation where you are being targeted by someone at work is frustrating and hence it is necessary that you share your feelings with a trusted friend or a colleague. This will help you to feel less stressed and find a way to deal with the situation at hand. Do not let the problems that the person may try to create affect you negatively. Instead talk about it to a trustworthy person and be positive.
Ignore the person.
Yes at times no matter what you try the person who wants to target you may still find ways of creating issues. Hence it is best to avoid any situation like a project for example which that person is a part of. While doing this make sure that your work does not get affected negatively.
We hope that you find these tips helpful and that if you have to face any negative situation at work you can easily come out of it.

Please Dont mind. Approaching the person directly will make matter worse. Also do not share experience with anyone until unless they are facing the same issues otherwise they will take advantage of your weakness. The only good advice is ignorance is bliss, try to limit interaction with this person and be extremely proffesional. And yes in some cases start searching another job.

You know what's better, completely destroy the concept of office politics as we know it and start a new paradigm. We can start with a completely open salary workplace, like they do in some European companies, where every wage for every worker is public knowledge and employees's demands for complete pay-equality is policy. Instead of a hierarchical performance review from higher ups, the underlings review the higher ups and vice versa, and HR keeps taps treating them equally. Have an overseeing organization that dismantles all forms of nepotism, advancing purely due to socalled networking. Strong personality and looks should be complete non-variables in any inconsideration. Only the work and the ability should have merit. As such, a completely open grading system on performance that is openly disclosed and discussed, between employee, manager's grades are revealed to underlings, and vice versa and with each other. Any and all promotions are offered via standardized testing or scoring system. The only place for politics to even be plausible is the 30 min interview session. Backstabbing is implausible as only the scoring system matters, and promotion exams are only offered for employees with a standard length of time working at the company, say, 18 months, employees with less time simply are not allowed to partake in exams or interviews.

I do understand that this channel is about soft skills. I was expecting content about keeping your social strength and confidence under dire office politics. With all due respect I do not agree with the points in this. Honestly, politics is nothing but social interaction. Most people are able to do what you just told. And innocently doing these same points so far for me has what made matters worse. All this is so childish except first point because I have experienced each and every one of these and now avoid to do these same points. I was looking forward for more advanced ways to manage work colleagues trying to frame you or threaten you.

Well, that's not a right idea. You cannot talk to the person who is annoying you... It makes the situation worse... You always remember to become stoned... Just don't react for their actions... You reacting makes them do more like such things..... Always never share with anyone who annoys you in the office... We cannot trust anyone at office... Who will ditch us, at what time, e never know..ppil have to maintain secrets... Especially office issues. Let other share with you.. But remember you don't share it at any point... This is my advice.

Needs to be less gender specific at the beginning of the video. ("He" this, that, and the other) Suggest using "S/he". Some of the most vicious, backstabbing, two-faced people in the workplace are females; and they tend to get away with it much easier than men due to gender bias and social conditioning. I am a business owner and am able to be very objective in this regard as my presence in any particular office is limited in time - albeit reoccurring. I am a keen observer of human behavior and this is what I see very often in many workplaces.
