Same here. He went through the whole history that I was grown when watching it happen but these young people and revisionist talk about this. I was around when "PTI" and "Around The Horn" and it's original host Max Kellerman first started I was in college in 2001 and I remember Stephen A and Skip on "Nu Skool vs Ol Skool" and when "Cold Pizza", the "1st and 10" segments with Woody Paige and Skip, Jay Crawford, then Dana Jacobson with the rotating cast. Stephen A had his show "Quite Frankly" and appearances on a bunch of ESPN shows then he got fired and banished from TV. Then he ended up on Fox Sports Radio doing a morning show "The Stephen A Smith Show". Then First Take as a show had Skip and Jay Crawford and a rotating cast (2 Live Stews, Rob Parker, Chris Broussard, Ryan Clark, Michael Smith, Jemele Hill, Kordell Stewart). Skip was confronted by Chris Bosh, Chris Carter and then Jalen Rose came on to defend athletes from Skip's insults and called him "Water Pistol Pete Jr." and brought up his fictional high school career where he only averaged 1.4 on the JV team. Then he got Stephen A. to save him then he offered him the job as permanent co-host. So all this Skip made and save Stephen A is overblown. Skip, Stephen A and Shannon (as far as these debate shows) are loud wrong and push false narratives ans are played out.

From what I know of you, you’re better than to take money from people like that at the cost of your subscribers. Please stop taking them as a sponsor. There are ways to spread the positive message of therapy without supporting a known terrible company that takes advantage of its users that are by definition at-risk. Very quickly I got incredibly tired of the debates that were more about winning than the subject and the constant hot takes for the sake of clicks and views whether those takes are valid and backed up or not. It took until I started finding creators online who went at things from a different angle to really fall in love with football the way I have now. I found guys like you, Tom Grossi, Brett Kollman, KTO, That Franchise Guy, and I could go on and on. They all fill different niches within this space and they can all be entertaining and insightful. And hell, it can also just be nice to watch some debates about football and disagreements, that dont turn into a screaming match lmao. @@johndavis9321 I knew it would be some people responding with “well he’s got a lot of money, so he’s fine!” Listen, I’m not wealthy, but to the people I’ve spoken with who do make good money, they’ve always said in one way or another that if you have money, but we don’t have relationship, you will always be miserable. If you’re somebody like Skip, you have no kids, you’ve got a wife, you’ve got a ton of money, but you damaged your relationships, you’re always gonna end up being unhappy in the end. If a man thinks that money and success is what matters, he’ll spend life chasing it, stepping on people who could’ve helped him further, like Shannon, and whether or not he gets it, he’ll spend his life missing out and how fulfilling it could have been. I’m just grateful that I’m learning those lessons and now before I’m even 30. There’s a lesson in not deliberately destroying your relationship for the sake of ratings, for the sake of success.

@@johndavis9321I agree with your entire point except for the fact that skip is getting out. Read up on just how bad undisputed is doing. He’s not getting out. His show has tanked and it’s over. He’s not leaving on his own terms. It’s a loss and you best believe he too sees it that way.

It sucks with how sports are being talked about from the big shows, the only one that actually does it good enough is inside the nba. It is the only thing now that I don’t want to be on my phone when it’s on, it will be a sad day for basketball when the last show airs

I also like Jeff and Mark on ESPN on NBA It was so awesome to hear legit basketball conversations Inside the NBA had a good mix of actual basketball analysing and barbershop cut ups it's why it was such a mainstream draw for even casuals

KZbin has shown us that Skip, Shannon, Steven A have no more information than any other person with an internet connection. Channels like Jomby prove that. Steven A hasn’t had an original thought since 1999, just yelling.

This is such a good video and good insight. When I was young I loved cold pizza, Skip had these very off the wall funny ideas that went completely against the narrative that you don't hear anywhere else that would make you think and Woody Paige was naturally hilarious. I thought at the time it was this less popular gem of a show so it's crazy to me to where people talk about Skip like he is the biggest name in sports talk now. I feel like Woody had this natural don't take this serious vibe that made it more fun, then when Stephen A was added it was like we're just all about arguing. Skip was always like this, even before cold pizza he wrote a few books of his psycho opinions. Then as the internet took over everything you learn how little these guys actually know about sports, they constantly get players wrong, you see one person can't be a commentator like this on literally every sport, they start to seem like characters of themselves rather than what they actually think. ESPN in general just has a disconnect with what works. It feels forced, they shove these unlikable figures down our throats, and don't add anything we don't already know. Now most of the sports content I take in is from fan podcasts, some of these guys know the game extremely well and I've learned so much about football from them that you'd never get from an ESPN show. I think most of these youtuber esc shows also really suck, they don't have personality, they put so little effort into it, but some of these guys have so much personality it is crazy.

I agree with you. The best debate duos were Skip v Shannon & Stephen A v Skip. A large reason why Shannon & Stephen aren’t as good is 1. Shannon isn’t on the show every day. 2. Almost never in the studio 3. They almost always agree on most topics. Even their MJ vs Lebron debate isn’t intriguing

Your going to be one of the very few people that will take the time to try an understand Skip's mindset and give him so level of flowers for what he's done for Sports Media. Skip understand what he was doing more then most gave him credit for. Alot of people tuned in for a long time to watch the heel.
@Pyrple3 ай бұрын
Man one thing I noticed and appreciate in this video and others is that Flemlo doesn't feel the need to make his opinion the last word on a subject. At the end of this video he comes out and says he doesn't like Skip and his antics. Then he reads and retells Skip's childhood purely to come to an understanding. And once he's done with that, he lets the video end. He doesn't need to be like most other KZbinrs and say "...but that still doesn't give him an excuse to..." after telling the other side. He said his opinion once, and that's enough. Really helps these stories feel genuine.
