I miss my Yeti! I pine for it, even looking up photos on the dealership's website where it's still for sale after the end of our lease. We've got a 1.0 3cyl TSI Octavia and it's great to drive, has loads of space in the cabin and the cavern... sorry, I mean boot, and the engine is really surprisingly good, especially on the motorway. I do miss the DSG I had on the Yeti, though. I might have a look at the Kamiq when the Octavia's lease runs out in 2021. Thanks for the review. :)

I wonder if Brian or Thomas could comment on this? Brian says auto box is so good in modern cars that he'd have to be pushed quite hard to recommend a manual, the DSG combined with the 1.5tsi in this car being particularly good. There is so much confusion about this gearbox here in the UK, it's driving me mad. I've actually just chosen this combination in the Karoq. The gearbox will no doubt be VAG's DQ200 which some commentators over here say to avoid due to the high failure rate and repair costs. Just wondering if the rest of Europe has the same opinion? There's one particular motoring hack who continually criticises the DQ200 but I'm not sure if it's his personal bias or not. Skoda dealers say they're not aware of any issues but then again they would. Thanks in advance for any advice
@autogefuel5 жыл бұрын
Hey m8, yeah there has been this stuttering issue where u got a software update now which improved the situation, for older existing cars a customer said that it didnt fix it completely though. As for durability, wet dsg clutch is better than dry. VAG has both, afaik DQ200 dry is used for fwd and DQ381 wet is used for AWD. Since Kamiq is fwd only... so if u wanna keep the car for 10 years, maybe dont go 1.5 dsg, if u lease, go for it

Love the new Scala and Kamiq but they only make sense to buy if they're mid-spec'd (1.0 TSI 115 engine with Ambition trim and a few extra's). I have tried both of these cars and they're fun to drive, comfortable, roomy and feel overall built very well.

I have this engine in the Ateca with a manual box, this is a bad combination, the gearbox is nice to use, but the gearing is wrong for the engine making the acceleration and power delivery very poor. As you stated you expect more than this engine delivers. I think if you pair it with the DSG it would make a much better experience. VAG have pretty much sorted out all the 1.5 engine problems now, but mine had 3 updates to sort it out.

If you go for this engine with manual transmission I strongly suggest to get a test drive beforehand . Bought a Leon with that set up and it is Kangarooing on 1st gear like a boss. My fault was that I test drove the 130 horses version - which didnt have the issue - and I fell for it thinking that the 150 hp would simply be better. HOW INNOCENT I WAS. Dealer ,of course , says there's no problem with the engine.

I've read a few negative comments elsewhere about the heating system and how controlling it via the touch screen is an issue. But why the need to control fan speed when the temp is controlled automatically? If you wanted full fan speed say to demist the car, well you can do that with the demist button. I fail to see the need to control the fan speed on a system like this. As for the engine - the car works well with a 1.0 but 1.5tsi takes the price in to Karoq territory. Can't see many 1.5's being sold. If the boot had been slightly larger ( sliding seats perhaps ) I'd have bought this over the Karoq as our city car.

@@smudger671 You dont seem to have grasped the concept. Theres no need to adjust fan speed, you simply adjust temp. If people were to ask themselves why they're adjusting the fan speed, the solution might become more obvious.

Nice vid. I have a suggestion/question for a possible future vid/article. Seeing as this segment is one of the most cluttered and good selling of all segments, I was wondering if a comparative could be done on the cool features and options of the infotainment and driving/parking assistance between the competitores. This class now offers great bang for buck but who has better offers on the infotainment and driving assistance end? Would like to see between the 2008, Capture, Kamiq, Arona, T-cross, CX-3, etc. Thanks

There is a large gap between the 1 litre 115 psi and the 1.5 litre 150 psi - I think VW should introduce a 1.2 litre three cylinder engine - they sell so many cars with these engines now that they need a third type - the lower power 1.5 isn't any better on fuel. Also, they need to introduce cylinder deactivation on the smaller engines and consider a 24v hybrid system for the smaller engines as the 48v may be too expensive for the smaller cars.

Climate controls are a laugh. It would drive me crazy since the air speed is used more often than temperature. What a stupid idea, just like the new Golf 8.
@runawayronnie5 жыл бұрын
All seems perfectly sensible to me. Been driving climate control VAG cars since 2007 and never needed to manually adjust fan speed yet. The car has climate control therefore fan speed is auto adjusted according to temp. Only time u should need to adjust fan speed manually is for rapid demisting - and theres a button for that.
@madant77775 жыл бұрын
@@runawayronnie Aaaa no, I use it all the time - I am the one deciding where and how much fan speed there will be, not the aircon that only reacts to temperature. I honestly don't know how you can drive and never need the fan speed.
@runawayronnie5 жыл бұрын
VAG engineers have designed the system as it should be used, if u wish to operate it differently then why waste ur money on buying a car with climate? From what u say u should be buying the cheaper model which has manual controls.
@madant77775 жыл бұрын
@@runawayronnie Oh man, you don't, for example, turn more cold air in the summer on yourself because the aircon doesn't operate that way?!!? Ahhahahahahahahaha!!!!!
@runawayronnie5 жыл бұрын
Seems auto climate is completely wasted on you. Doesnt matter if its mid winter or mid summer, if u have system set to a specific temp then the system will autio agjust fan speed to reach that temp - adjusting it manually wont make it any colder or warmer. As i say, buy the cheaper model with the manual adjustment if thats what u want, dont go blaming VAG.

Not sure where is this build but let's say in Czech this car would cost you pretty much 1 000 000 Czech Crowns 😂😂😂😂 Madness but I read a article from the Boss of VW... He did say that small cars as we know will be impossible to build in a NEAR future because they cost almost as much to build as much bigger cars... And also 8.6 litres per 100km!? That's only 32mpg!? That's pathetic... Hot hatch can reach 30mpg with twice the power... Also the 1.5tsi with the stupid cylinders shut off system is not very reilable engine so far... The brand new Octavia looks milion times better and for the same money you get proper family car... This car only makes sense in basic trim with 1.0 litre engine for about €20k
