One correction about the faps. The lump on the large water wheels can be counted as the connector between the water wheels. So the number of space at the same z level between the small and large water wheels is the same. I do agree that the material difference massively favors the small wheels, but in terms of power to space… I think the larger ones win. That said, if you do build over the water wheels, the small ones fit into a tighter hole easier so you can enjoy more cushion above to push more utility out of your faps. So you are right about which one to use in the end, but there are more consideration points that may matter in a slightly different situation.
@SkyeStorme
@SkyeStorme Ай бұрын
The 'lump' on the side is WAY worse than that, I can have as many compact water wheels in a row as I want, can't do that with large water wheels because of the 'lump'. Also the 'lump' stops you from turning the power immediately 90 degrees by placing a 3 or 4 way connector. The 'lump' makes the large water wheel much more inflexible. It makes you 'work around' it. The use cases for the large water wheel are limited and very specific. Essentially .. it sucks.

The F.A.P.S. is genuinely a genius system. It's not the most powerful or efficient, and naysayers will point out (not incorrectly) that it's not really all that versatile on most maps due to the placements and availability of bad water sources. But Skye understands that he's not playing "most maps," and that's their true quality.

Looking awesome, I must say. I was going to suggest you replaced the power shaft along the 'east' side of the F.A.P.S. with charging ports, but then you moved the path and built the number crunchers and platforms there instead. Still worth remembering that they transfer power though, I often use them in place of 3-ways anywhere there's an adjacent path. On a side note, you are an awesome human who brings laughter and entertainment to many, many people. Those who detract from such often shout the loudest, but they are a minority and not worth your time, effort or attention. We love you both, just try to remember to be kind to yourselves, you deserve it.

13:35 considering the fact that you let build 50 power wheels and the badwater source produces at about 3 cms, I'd estimate that you get out 3*60*50 -> 9000hp out of your F.A.P*ing System. Reducing the outcome due to evaporation by a rough 10%, you still might get a little more than 8k hp 🙂 Hopefully that's enough for finishing the well proportioned B.A.P.S. (Edit: removed automatically generated link)

Guessing about 10000-11000 power roughly.. oh sorry i forgot proper etiquette.. DEAR SKY.... AS AN AVID WATCHER OF YOUR CHANNEL, I GUESS ABOUT 10000-11000 POWER:
@Blackwing2345635
@Blackwing2345635 Ай бұрын
I think the real problem with large water wheels is that they... Use the flow of only one tile. I was too lazy to test it better, probably it is an average of two tiles under the axis, but it doesn't really matter - it is not a sum. If you have 4 wide channel with 2.2cms each and two large wheels, you will get only 2*2.2*270=1188 power, I was so disappointed when I found this out( In comparison for the same 4*15 section you can get 2*3 large wheels or 4*5 small ones. With 2.2cms each tile It is 3564hp for large wheels and 2640hp for compact ones - 26% difference. AND you don't need an additional 1 tile width for shafts AND it is 3 height instead of 5 AND you can direct those 4 tiles into ONE to sum the flow into ONE tile channel. If it floods - dynamite down until it doesn't and put wheels on platforms. Or don't narrow the channel that much, whatever is more suitable for your design. And now the funniest part. In the same footprint as 2*3 large wheels (4 tiles for channel + 2 tiles for channel walls + 1 tile for shafts, 15 tiles structure length) I was able to squeeze in 13 compact power wheels in a snake 1-width channel. With a single bad water source (3cms) results in the *simulation* (not calculated, real output) are: - Large ones: 1208 hp (1215 calculated) - Compact ones: 2317 hp (2340 calculated) Cost of the large wheels structure (assuming dirt walls and without shafts supports, including shafts): 440 logs and 480 planks = 920 logs. Cost of the compact wheels structure (same assumption, including shafts for links): 717 pure logs. It is with a dirt bed and outer walls, but 30 levees for inner walls. So if you make inner walls with dirt instead - it is 357 logs and 180 dirt) It includes 30 levies to form the snake-shaped channel. Plus you need to form a 1 deep 5 width channel (75 single dynamites) for the structure instead of 2 deep 4 width channel (60 double dynamites) for large wheels. It is hilarious xD

I need to retest some things with the updated water physics, but making a perpetual motion (other then needing to replace evaporation) waterworks that had ~20k hp in excess after powering all the mechanical pumps was always fun. Started on the basic idea of it took X (don't remember the numbers off hand and they surly have changed since then) number of large waterwheels to power a single mechanical pump from its own output, then added pumps on the input side till it maxed out at 1.9 water height(IE the pumps limit at that height) into the first wheel, then drop water level 1 at the end and run it back through another X+1 wheels, repeat till at the lowest input level of the mechanical pumps, at an additional pump to take from a reservoir to keep it topped up from evaporation, only connect the pumps to the top row's power, the other rows are all for whatever else you need.

Dear Skye, you have inspired me to try out all the wonderful changes with Update 6. You make it look so easy. I struggle with mid-game progression the most. Do you have any suggestions for order of focus to bridge the gap between having enough food, water, and logs and being able to transition quickly to bots? Also, if you are just planning on closing off a bad water source, did you notice that sealing it off with platforms, impermeable floor, & levees/sluices is much cheaper than a bad water dome? Thanks for your content...AND commentary!

Cheaper .. but then you don't get badwater all year round As for advice, it depends which faction you're playing. But in your question you already have the solution. Focus on Food, Water, Logs .. I'd aim for a beaver population of around 125 .. make sure you have plenty of haulers! :)
