This horse is superior to Shadowmere in the regards that it can be summoned even on places where horses cant go, for example this place, It speeds up this part of the quest really well

I got him arvaks skull out of sympathy. It was the right thing to do. Little did I know that arvak would become my character's signature mount. It's kind of a defining moment in my characters journey that shows him doing good despite being an antihero.

It's the Dawnguard DLC. In case you have it already installed: After some time there should be an Orc who invites you to join the Dawnguard. That's where it begins. Oh and the Orc finds you, you don't need to look for him! ;)

He'll fight for you eventually, but everytime I've used him up to now he seems to run first and then come back to fight. By that time I've got everything killed and then I have to go find him.

Note: you have to kill all the surrounding enemies for the quest to be considered complete, otherwise the soul you have to return to won't appear

if you examine the spells that do the required effect once per activation you'll see how much mp it costs, so in order to use it you need to be at or over that number. that's why it's saying you don't have enough, hope this helps

He's great for looting chests. I don't use a horse, so when I loot a chest where I am too heavy, just summon him and you can fast travel anywhere. Also good for moving your stuff to a different house.

I accepted the quest but I wasn't planning on looking for Arvak's skull until I finished doing the mission in the Soul Cairn. I just stumbled upon the shrine the skull was at while looking for the Boneyard Keepers.

doesn't matter, you can be either, although i would suggest siding with the dawn guard because you can gain the vampire lord ability either way, but i believe you can only get good crossbows with the dawn guard

The quest giver is in either an entirely different location than in the Xbox version OR those land markers aren't there in the Xbox version because neither that place that you are in nor that broken tower are near where he started

I recently found out that Arvak is an incredible mountain climber. As long as there is no rocks in the way he is able to walk up mountains no matter how steep they are :D

Shadowmere was almost a chore to keep with if you were a sneak character. Id find myself parking her some ways from a place where I knew sneaking would be involved. I always hated finding a cave entrance that was guarded by enemies and Id have my shot ready with my arrow and at the corner of the screen Id see Shadowmere running towards them. If you see a dragon while with her, expect some loud shrieking until the dragon died. I even shot a couple arrows in Shadowmere's head out of anger haha.

That's supposed to happen to help lead you to the skull, and that's only a ghost of it so that's why the skull is still attached

Not only does he tell you specifically that he is teaching you how to call his horse, but the horse will actually fight alongside you. Helpful video though.
