Back in 1969 my team,Watford played Man Utd in the F.A Cup. We were third division and they were European champions. Incredibly the Hornets drew 1-1 at Old Trafford which meant a replay at a less than glamorous Vicarage Rd. I think half of the town was there that day. Over 34,000. Still our record attendance. Most wanted to see Charlton, Best and Law in the flesh but still we dared to dream. It was Mr Law who shattered that dream with both goals in a 2-0 defeat. In the box he was razor sharp. Best finisher I personally have ever seen. R.I.P

It's so sad for me. In the early 1960's, my elder brother came home and excitedly said he was supporting Man Utd. Either before or after that, I remember reading that Denis Law had been sent off in a 0-4 defeat and the report was captioned, "Law and the Law". Since then, I've also been a United Supporter and Denis Law remains my favourite MU player, despite watching snippets of his play only years later in the 1970s when I bought a TV. I have small collection of MU video tapes, CDs and magazines. Indeed, he was a one-off.

My father met a guy years ago out walking his dog who said he went to the same school as Denis Law and played in the school football team with him. The guy said that they had a two-legged cup tie and for family reasons Denis couldn't make the home first game which the school lost 0-1. Denis played in the away leg which they won 10-0 and Law scored all 10 goals.

In two matches against Norway in 1963 Scotland lost the first one 4-3 in Bergen, Denise Law scoring the three Scotland goals. In the return match in Glasgow Scotland won 6-1 with Denis scoring four. Scoring seven goals in two international matches? A world record?

He once scored 6 goals in an FA Cup tie.... only for the game to be abandoned!
@vmax4steve5246 күн бұрын
@@D_B_Cooper In the '63-64 season he scored 46 goals in 42 games including seven hat tricks. The difference between Denis and a modern striker is that Denis 'learned' to beat the goalkeeper as a child wheras modern strikers are 'taught' as children by coaches to hit the target which is usually where the goalkeeper is. This is why we will never see the likes of the trinity again, you can't coach natural genius and to have the three greatest ever british players in the same club side at the same time was unearthly.

I think the media has massively downplayed how much he was also adored on our Blue side of town. (Kiddo is the only man to achieve equal mutual adoration.) This perhaps best exemplified by the BBC Breakfast's sporting anchor, Gavin Worrever'esecalled stating that his nickname was 'The King of Manchester United'. UTTER BOLLOCKS!! He was/will always be known as the King of Manchester. I'm 61yrs-old. Back when I was a kid. my dad would occasionally take us to Belle Vue. En route from where we lived, we always passed a pub called the King's Head. Their sign, along with their moniker atop, had his face on it.
