You are exploring subjects that are rarely, if ever, researched this well and presented cohesively -what a treat! It is immensely interesting to examine the bible verses no one ever quotes, the interpretations of Christianity throughout the centuries, and the arguments and mental contortions made up to stir it one way or the other. I cannot think of better ways to educate oneself on what religion is.

It's worth noting that the brother of St Basil of Caesarea, Gregory of Nyssa, was perhaps the first ever abolitionist...

Weirdly enough, you did not give a segment to Augustine even though you mentioned him in the beginning.

Hi there I will be doing a separate video on Augustine's view of slavery soon as it merits a video of its own, he being the most influential man of that time. appreciate you watching!

@@FlaviusClaudiusJulianus361 You have to also do a video on Aristotle's view on slavery, cuz I hear they both supported it and they were both used to argue for its continuance.

He didn't outright reject slavery either I'm afraid - a product of his time like the others in the video.

I must say, I recently discovered your channel, and it’s been quite informative! And as a Christian myself, I believe it’s been motivation to better the church through what I can do. Though products of their times and the way of thinking that was norm back then, it does not justify it: and so we, perhaps, have a duty of going forward as church, of bettering ourselves, of returning to the way of Christ: to be as St. Francis rather than St. Augustine, however interesting his story might be.

Thx for watching! Appreciate your considered comments. And quite agree these folks were products of their times. From my side that would include Jesus as well however as he never condemned Jewish or Greco-Roman slavery which was endemic in his time. But yes history is all about bettering ourselves and learning from the past.
