Obviously I am thinking of doing this with my baby although it worked for my son, he was a calmer baby. I just wanted to let you know to be careful with the monitor right by her crib. They somehow get to the cord and pull the loose cord and can get it wrapped around their neck or arm. My son’s actually got pulled off the wall even though it was what i thought of as just out of reach. Luckily he was a toddler but still got a bump. It was the same monitor you have. Anyways I hope sleeping is great now!

Hi, Do you wake your baby up for feed like at least once during this sleep training? I started follow your sleep technique for my baby boy ( will be 6months old in 10 days) but started with Nap time first ( as I wasn't sure can do this for night) it took him 20 to 25mins to settle down each time, few wimp during night sleep, he slept from 7.30pm and around 1.45am I picked him up to change his nappy & nurse him & put him back to sleep. He was bit fussy while changing the nappy because he was so sleepy didn't even open his eye. After I fed him, put him back to his crib, he was bit fussy for 2 mins so I console him, soon he calm down & fall asleep. I am not sure should I or shouldn't I feed the baby if he doesn't wakes up in 6 hours, he was hungry when I wake him up for feed, shall I continue it until he is 9months old?

This video was life-changing! Our 7-month-old was doing a night feed and waking up several times a night. We finally reached our breaking point after not sleeping for hours one night. I searched for “my 7-month-old isn’t sleeping” and this video came up. I loved the simplicity of it and the step-by-step guidance. As a new parent, I didn’t feel comfortable just letting him cry it out, so this method was the perfect in-between. We had a very similar experience to you and by night 4, he was sleeping through the night (which has NEVER happened). His daytime naps are also long and beautiful as well now. Mistakes observed: #1: bottle-feeding to sleep; when he would wake up at night, he would look for the bottle to go back to sleep. We hadn’t given him the tools to learn how to fall asleep on his own. It’s so obvious now, I want to slap myself! #2: not having him on a regimented nap schedule #3: not waking him up consistently at the same time in the mornings. Now he’s in bed by 8 pm and up at 7 am. That allows him to nap from 9:30-11:30am and from 2:30-4 PM. Daytime sleep is highly correlated to nighttime sleep!! Anyways, I can’t thank you enough. And if you’re a sleep deprived parent, watch this video and follow it exactly. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain 😴😖

I had heard of sleep training but was afraid of it, I didn't want to do anything strict or put my baby in a lonely sad situation, but Oh My GOSH this has totally helped our entire family. We are on day 4 of our sleep training and I would recommend it to any parent struggling. Kayla, thank you for being brave and sharing your experience, it really inspires me to keep going.

My LO in now 10 months. He was sleeping through the nights for most night from 6-7 MTHS. At 8 months he kept waking up most nights, 9 out of 10, he just turn 10 MTHS and I have had enough of it. He eats 3 meals for the day. Have at least 3 bottles during the day, but every night about 3 he wakes up crying down the place and is hungry. He sleeps well throughout the day too, so not sure why he wakes at night. He doesnt sleep in our bed but he's in the same room. So I don't think it's separation anxiety. Someone please tell me if you have had this experience and what you did to remedy it.

There are “scientific” studies that argue both sides of this. How on earth would parents decide??? I have read studies about the harm of not sleeping and how crying is perfectly fine, and other studies about the harm of letting your child cry by him/herself. It means no matter what you decide there’s still a 50% chance you made the wrong call. I chose not to sleep train, I don’t judge people who do or don’t. In my case I am thankful that I followed my instincts, my son was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea around the time he turned 1. so I am so grateful that I was there right next to him every time he stopped breathing for a few seconds. Sleep training him could have gone just fine, but it could just as equally have had catastrophic consequences. I am glad I didn’t take any chances. Again, if you learn anything as a parent, it’s to never judge the choices of other parents, we all just trying to do our best, parenthood is fucking hard!

@@evalemur my mom sleep trained my brother and he would sleep 8 hours at 4 months. My mom never sleep trained me until 2 years old when my brother was born and they were forced to put me in my own room. I cried. Banged parents bedroom door. My mom only slept in intervals for those 2 years and was a stay at home mom and didnt have much pressure to train me for sleep. Eventually the time still had to come for her to let me cry it out. She had to be firm because she often would relent so the weeks would drag on. I even grew jealous of my baby brother. The time is going to come eventually where they are too afraid or cant handle being away from you or not having a bottle to sleep or not being soothed back to sleep by you.(I still slept with a bottle at night tho until I was 9 years old and a pacifier until I was 6. had tooth decay problems because of it) Best thing you can do for you baby is develop a healthy sleep habit. A few days of sleep training isnt going to harm your baby. the best thing you can do for both you and your baby is to teach them to self soothe before the cognitive and physical wheels start rolling, and you get a "mommy please!!!!!! I dont want to sleep alone!!! I love you mommy. Please!!!" It happened anyway for me, and it happened at the worst possible time. I still remember that place and when I transitioned. My brother on the other hand, of course doesnt remember, but never had abandonment issues and had a healthy relationship with family.

@@eminemilly my brother did. He only cried the first 2 days. And even when he woke up in the middle of the night he went back to sleep. When he was hungry at night hed cry and be fed, but he generally slept very well. Idk about self soothe, but theres a time where babies neurologically can handle sleeping through the night. I on the other hand, cried every 2 hours until I was 2 years old to be fed milk or for my mom to calm me down. Do you think my brother felt more stress in two days than I did in 2 years when i felt uncomfortable and couldnt handle being hungry for more than 2 hours? Where my sleep was constantly disrupted. Where my mothers sleep was also always disrupted, and found it hard to attain a job sleep deprived? Oh and look at that, even when my mother jumped to my every whim and spoiled me, I still have an extreme fear and anxiety of being rejected and neglected :/. Not my brother tho.

@@Papayaguave as a mom of two expecting my third your advice is extremely harmful and rude, what you are advocating for is unsustainable for some families, so we have to do different methods for everyone in the families wellbeing, it’s a lie to tell people that it is “torturing “ your child if you let them cry. I would argue the opposite , it’s actually damaging to your child to make them dependent on you for longer than they need to be. Guess what I used to think like you and I breastfed my first for 3 1/2 years co slept until 4 and a half, he had a harder time transitioning to sleeping in his own bed , that I would argue as traumatic. Had I helped him do this when he was younger he would not have had all of the separation issues he had. I made my child DEPENDENT on me to where he couldn’t function on his own!!! That is NOT our job as parents, we need to help our children to stand on their own two feet. There is a balance to everything, but guilting someone by saying what their doing is “traumatic” is plain wrong and you need to get off the high horse!!

@@catholicwife children aren't mini adults and they depend on us because they need us, these needs can't be reduced to "milk/food and clean diaper" babies are human beings and they also need human contact, emotional conecction and the only way they can express their needs is through crying if you decide to ignore their crying you're literally ignoring their needs. Also there's plenty of scientific evidence about the negative impact on the baby's brain when you practice the cry it out method or interval crying, etc. I'm a mom too, I know how it feels being sleep deprived and I've thinked about CIO a looot of times, but honestly when I remember the negative impact on the baby I just can't do it. Babies only will be babies once, we should stop trying make them independant since birth, we have to accept that they need us and treat them with respect and that means hearing and attending their needs. I hate that anyone would post a negative comment. I have 2 wonderful children and both were so completely different as babies. In my opinion/experience, its like being a new parent each time. As we all know, every human has their own preferences… I think healthy habits are great for everyone but some stick with one and not with another… this video just shows parents that care so deeply for their baby that they are willing to dig in and figure out what works best for their little love and that is the best thing a baby could ask for. Kudos to you for being such loving parents! And that is all that should matter to anyone watching this. That baby is loved and cared for. No matter what method is used/WORKS. Just my opinion…

I cannot stand fricken negative comments about CIO. There is literally NO EVIDENCE that it affects kids whatsoever in the rest of their lives. Yes it temporarily raises cortisol in their brains - which is also what happens when they’re crying in the car seat. Crying at the doctors office. Crying whenever they disagree with what you’re doing. Sleep deprivation is a huge contributor to PPD. I sleep trained bc after months of not sleeping, I was in an insanely dark place. I’m a SAHM and I can not afford to dread spending the days and nights with my child. Children don’t need “perfect” moms. They need HAPPY ones. My kid CIO’d and we have an amazing relationship. She has AMAZING sleep habits. If you’re not comfortable with it, don’t do it. But don’t intentionally watch a CIO video and shame moms. Fricken a-holes.

@TheInkinJapan right ... when you have no escape at all - you take care of your (multiple) kids all day long with no days off - SAHMs are the only moms I know who have gotten PPD, it’s an all consuming life with no breaks from your kids. Most moms I know look at me and say “kudos to you but I could never do that.” Why would we need to sleep any less than a working mom? Like what the actual fuck? The SAHM vs working mom debate is worn out - were all moms. But thanks for completely belittling a whole set of extremely hard working and exhausted people. I love how running an in home daycare is considered a career but being a SAHM is “not working”. Baffling. Kindly fuck off 👍🏼

I've just started doing our own version of sleep training. I don't feel comfortable leaving him for more than 5mins but so far I haven't had to leave him more than 3 anyway. Before he was exactly the same as your girl - cosleeping and waking every 1-2hrs and wanting to nurse. We definitely made the mistake of giving him milk to soothe him off to sleep. First night without doing that and we did still cosleep but I perservered and didn't feed him until about 3.30am when he woke again. So I got about 3.5hrs straight which was big progress! Today I have focussed on giving him bigger feeds and making sure he isn't using the nursing to go to sleep. I've also been putting him in his cot to sleep by himself for the first time. He's used to being in there as we have used it as a safe play space to familiarise him, but I was SO sure he would take ages to go to sleep. Both naps he has only taken 3 mins and one settling. First nap was 30mins and he's currently on his second which has been 20mins so far. Prior to this he would usually have 2 x 30min naps and one 1-2hr nap every day, so the short naps are not a worry for me. Tonight will be interesting to see how he copes with sleeping in his cot for the first time. I'm definitely anticipating some difficulty but I'm going to try. He's surprised me so far, so we'll see!

My baby was a bad sleeper since she was born and the only way she would sleep was right next to me, In my arms or on top of me. Yes, It was hard not being able to sleep through the night. But i got used to it, But now she is 6 months and she sleeps better she usually goes to bed at 8pm she only wakes up at 2am she eats and goes back to sleep until 7:30am. I never sleep trained her because I didn’t have the heart to let her cry for so long.! She just learned on her own And now i sleep better as well, I think babies are not robots that HAVE to sleep 10+ hours straight at night, they are just tiny humans that need to learn so many things. Im so glad that my baby felt comforted by mommy all this time. I mean, Thats why i chose to be a mom, even if i had to sacrifice my sleep only for few months ,eventually she will grow up and she will not need me anymore so now i take advantage of that. 😀 thats only my opinion not judging anyone. This is very encouraging. I am currently all alone with my 6 month old, overseas and have no family or friends what so ever and stuck due to COVID. I have not slept in months. I am currently co-sleeping with my baby, I wouldn't mind it if she actually slept! She wakes up nearly every hour, not crying or anything, but just to look around, but she pulls my hair, tries to roll on to me and starts whining because she is bored. I am so sleep deprived that its causing health issues. I have very bad stomach issues, vomiting, pain and I am losing weight. I am also starting to suffer from memory loss due to sleep deprivation and I was nearly in a car accident 3 times so far. I had extensive medical tests from different doctors and they all pointed to sleep deprivation. I feel like my sleep deprivation is either going to get my baby hurt or killed or both of us. I need to try this method. And to anyone who says its damaging for a baby to cry for a bit; if its damaging, then EVERY single baby is damaged. There is ALWAYS going to be times when a parent cannot respond to a baby crying, whether its because baby is in a car seat and mother cannot pull over, or parents are dead asleep and woke up to baby crying for a while or parents showering.

I want to thank you and commend you for putting up this video. I didn't sleep train my first child (he's now 3.5) and hadn't planned to with our little girl who is now actually 7 months. However she continues to wake a few times at night and we can't get her over again sometimes for 2 hours. My husband is an even lighter sleeper than me and once he's properly up struggles to get back to sleep as well. He has a very physically active job sometimes starting early on the day and depending on shifts he might be driving home at 11pm in the dark along country roads and several times now has been so exhausted he's caught himself nearly falling asleep at the wheel. We're also realising the affect the months of no sleep has had on our temper/mood which is not good when trying to deal with our 3 year old's tantrums. We don't want to be having a short fuse and losing our temper with him (we've both noticed it happening). So think we going to do this. Only thing is my husband won't be able to tolerate the length of crying...he's not as good and trying to emotionally harden himself and would intervene too soon. He has a training course in England for 4 days in a couple of weeks so I think I'm going to try tackling it then. Hopefully get the worst of it over while he's away. Your video has given me more confidence and help for getting started. ❤

This was such a great video. I have always been absolutely against leaving your baby to cry, however, it’s clear to see that you are such a gentle soul who adores her baby and there’s no way you would do anything to harm her. Also, this is not a lock in a room and ignore technique, but reassuring baby every so often. It’s also so so so important for your mental health to get sleep, so to me this seems worth it and no harm done to baby. Well done you mumma 💕

My baby is 9 months old, sleeps by nursing and nurse 3-5 times in the night and also comfort suckling through the whole night. It was really hard for me to sleep. I’d sleep so stiff barely move. If I move away from her she’d cry. Even her day naps she had to sleep with me for comfort suckling. I had no time to relax. Or even go to restroom peacefully. I became a literal zombie. My back killing me. My head always hurting from lack of sleep. Forget thing. Can’t focus. Always tired. So decided to start transitioning co-sleeping to crib. And watching few videos and yours really helped me keep going. I am on my day 6 now. We’re sleeping in same room, her crib is 10 inch away from my bed. First night was the hardest. She mostly have 2 naps a day each around 1-2 hours long. But that day for some reason she didn’t had her second nap. So she was super fussy and sleepy. I started her bedtime routine around 7:50. Bath, lotion and some reading. Put her down at 8:50 pm by nursing. As soon as I put her in crib she cried. Then get her back. Soothing, nursing. Then put her in crib she cried. Then again pick her up. I really don’t like crying out method. So instead I did this back n forth like for an hour. Then she finally asleep. Through the night she wakes up 5-6 times, cried. I’d pick her up soothe nurse put her down everytime she wakes up… Then I started do her naps in her crib from day two. Naps were little easier bcuz she didn’t cry like night sleep when I put her in crib. She fuss but didn’t cry…Over the last few days I put her in her crib hour before bedtime and sit next to her crib. Play with her or read to her. Trying to make her get used to being in crib. I think thats working. Today she didn’t cried like every other days. I think my effort finally paying off. I can now finally relax my back muscle and sleep. If I keep going maybe some day she will learn make herself to sleep without nursing. And your video keeps me motivated. Thank you.

These sleep training methods have their history in germany in a not very nice time for mamas. Its confusing to the child to let them cry it out when you are not there. As someone who has studied Early Childhood Development, I can assure you, you will only make them stronger and have a more secure attachment (stronger to be more independent sooner) if you meet their needs now when they need it. It is only natural for baby to need you now. Crying is not bad when addressing sleep issues, but crying alone is.

Charisma Cogburn Responsive settling! I have always tried first to settle her without picking her up (bum pats, sshhing, stroking her face). That way she’s not falling asleep in our arms and then waking up somewhere else alone and confused. Introducing a little muslin lovey really helped. Plus once she started rolling and sleeping on her tummy, she slept deeper! We follow the same bed time routine every night and use white noise all night! Also an earlier bed time really helped us. She goes to bed at 630-7pm.

@@CopelandDecorandmomof4 for how long was the training for your baby?.. Mine will turn 2 months old in 3 days. Today it took him 14 min to fall asleep on his own for his nap! :) try it out.. you are doing baby a favor and yourself too. My son was waking me every hour, he just wanted to fall asleep on me, I couldn't even lay down cause that pissed him off. He wanted me to sit down while he slept. This is so heartbreaking to see, even three years later. I don't judge any parent being desperate because of sleep deprivation. I have a toddler myself and two and a half years of bad sleeping ;) But please keep in mind: The only thing your baby is going to learn is that there is nobody there. The baby doesn't learn to sleep it just gives up on trying to get your attention, because there is no sense at all in activating the attachment system. I'm so happy, that sleep training isn't a thing in Europe anymore (sorry for my bad english though)

But I also know that sleep is so important for me and my baby and for the whole family. I think other than the crying part, the monitor part is also adding to my worries. As I tested it before, the EMF from the baby monitor is super strong. I really don’t think putting it next to the baby (especially when they are asleep) is a good idea…I just wonder if I can sleep train without the monitor? 🤦🏻‍♀️

My baby did this for 5 days but I trained her so now I just read her a book while shes laying down until she falls asleep. She just listens and falls asleep even laughing in her sleep sometimes. Sometimes I do shadow puppets by turning on my phone flashlight and she smiles at the show. I used to have to wake up every 2 hours to feed her. I'd wake up 5 times a night. Wash bottles, sometimes change a few diapers, eat, and try and go back to sleep. I was easily agitated, to the point where at the end of the day, at my wits end I couldn't even watch my baby anymore, I had to calm myself down. I'm sleeping much better now and so is my baby thank god

Omg when you started crying I was about to cry too... my one month old doesn’t sleep at night unless she’s on my chest... which means zero sleep for me. So I basically haven’t slept in a month and it’s starting to really really get to me. So I wanna sleep train her but I know she’s not nearly old enough for it, and I heard you’re supposed to just let them cry and I can’t... it makes me wanna cry too hearing her cry. I literally pick her up the moment she starts and give her what she wants (milk or snuggles). Sleep training is going to be super difficult...

I know this is old, but just a suggestion. I had to go to a child physical therapist for my daughter. She also helped me to get my daughter to cry less. She told me to go to them and put your hand on their belly and just talk to them. After they stopped crying is when you pick them up. The only time you dont do this is when they are definitely hurt or have a soiled diaper. Babies are extremely smart and yes they figure out whenever I cry I get picked up. IT took me to get my daughter to the point where she only cries when there is something wrong. Yes I know its difficult, but stay strong.

Dreamfeed. Instead of feeding her to sleep. Feed her while shes sleeping and lay her back down between 10 to 11. In the morning if you wake up at like 4 or 5 am you can do the same thing again. In the morning if she wakes up and cries I still feed her. I like to monitor how much she eats. She eats a lot of solids so I make sure shes eaten at least 22oz of milk in the day and feed her at least 1 to 3 times at night. You can slowly wean her off.

The people commenting that you are a bad mom for sleep training is nuts! I used 12 hours by 12 weeks book and my son has been sleeping for 10-11 hours since he was 8 weeks old... now almost 6 months. Never had to do the cry it out method!! Yea sometimes he wakes up and fusses a bit but never cried or screamed!!! Maybe the first week or two he would fuss then if it would turn to a cry I would immediately go in rub his back for a min or two and he would go back to sleep. You go mama don’t listen to these people. You do what’s best for YOU, YOUR family and YOUR baby!!

Feels so horrible to do but honestly the the best thing we ever did and it didnt take ss long as I thought at all. Everyone is much happier and functions way better. People make comments about it being this that and the other but I only have to look at my happy healthy well slept 1 year old to know that we made the right decision :) xxx

I know this is a old video but just came across it. How did sleep training go after the one week? My daughter is almost five months old and I think I'll be sleep training in a couple of weeks as soon as I get her baby monitor and crib bumper. Your daughter sounded similar to mine with her sleep. She was going to bed at 9pm for the longest time but the last two to three weeks I have been noticing she's getting extra fussy and sleepy early so we have been going to bed 7:30-8pm. She wakes up around 12am-1:30am then again between 3-5am for change or feed or both. Sometimes I can get her back down in her basinett after last wake up and she will sleep until 6-7am, other times she just won't give me a extra hour or two unless she's on me or beside me in our bed. It sounds like your daughter did great with the sleep training though, I really hope my daughter does too. I'm exhausted. I know other people will say I'm lucky getting up twice a night but it's still tiring no matter what. I can not wait to get my sleep back. Oh and her naps right now she only naps 30-60 mins max 2-3 times a day but she puts up a fight and it's exhausting cause I know she needs sleep. She's extra cranky and rubbing her eyes. I got a stubborn little girl. She hates naps lol

You know in those time intervals when you start sleep training babies, what if baby starts crying so bad that it will vomit. What to do then? Second question what to do when babies are sick? Third question what to do when they are teething and in pain and need us? Fourth question about cluster feeding, because some babies will cluster feed even at night so what to do then? I am so looking forward to your detailed answers.

I felt just like you did, constantly felt hostage in a room with my son just so I would ensure he would sleep. We’re on day 2 of sleep training and I’m glad to come across your video definitely gives me the strength to continue with our sleep training journey! On our first night he cried about 20min before he fell asleep and slept through the entire night, however the next day he missed his nap and tonight he cried for a total of 20min again and has woken up once and just sat in his crib for an hour with occasional whining (not crying) but after the hour he lied back down and went to bed. I’m hopeful that’ll it will continue to get easier and easier. Thank you so much for your video!

Please DO NOT LET YOUR BABY CRY, that is NOT how you support your child to sleep on their own. (btw. that is not an age at all to being able to sleep on their own). Babies give up when you leave them crying, accepting that loved ones do not come to comfort…That is so heartbreaking, please be aware.

I want to discuss sleep and general “transitioning” for my second baby coming in the fall. With my 1st, I coslept and breastfed for 2 years. I liked having her near me because I wanted to encourage that instinct and bonding especially after she was literally part of my body for 9 months... However, I struggled with knowing when to “transition” to the next phase and I found each transition was SO agonizing for all of us. Examples: > when to transition from being with mom (co-sleeping or bassinet for example), to say a CRIB + if baby is right next to mom in whatever capacity and they dry or wake are you grab right away or put arm on them right away doesn’t this make them dependent on you for that instant response (not saying it’s bad) just posing question of - does it make that later transition of them self soothing etc more difficult when you suddenly aren’t responding and what does this all look like. I mean at 3am I wasn’t into letting my 1st scream and scream when she woke so that my hard working husband would then also wake up. > when and HOW to cut off night BREASTMILK so that it’s easier and HOW/ what to do to get them to sleep and no longer be dependent on those night feedings? I felt like there was yelling and arguing because my 1st was a toddler when I finally took the milk away at night(2yrs). I couldn’t handle not getting any sleep after 2 years of giving my first my all. 🥹 Things I have been told so far: > I have learned/heard that not letting a baby fall asleep ON you if you’re breastfeeding so they don’t associate “I only sleep if I am on mommy” is a good place to start > putting them in a crib when they are tired but not yet asleep so they “fall” asleep in their physical space (crib) > that using crib for naps right away when they are a newborn will more easily develop the habit as opposed to car sleeping more than a crib or a side sleeper more than a crib.. > keeping a lot of noise so they can sleep deep in noise as opposed to being a 👻 when they are asleep. My first is such a light sleeper and we never made a peep! Sorry this is long winded. I don’t even know what my exact questions are. I just need a better flow and plan to be confident in this second time around that May have worked for several others. So please help! I am more open minded than I used to be! Any little nuance you can share I’d love to hear!!
