I used your method almost 2 years ago with my little boy when he was 4 months old and it worked sooo well with him! He was stubborn but I stuck it out and it was the best decision of my life. Now I share your video with anyone who asks how to get their child to sleep through the night. ❤️

So pretty much in short, feed them, put them in their bed, let them cry for a bit, come back in and shush them, leave again, keep doing this until they sleep

I did this, but never looked at it as sleep training. Just knew they needed their sleep, and so did I. I love that you, and others have a name for this.

He is almost 3 months old now and has been sleeping a solid 10 to 11 hours every night for the past 2 months. He is a happy and content baby 😊 Thank you so much again for sharing your life with us. Hi, I'm a mom to 3 now young adults (born in 1995, 1996 and 2001). What you say in your video is exactly what I did and I feel completely in line with you. Children of any age need to know "who is the boss" - not meaning dominating them, but LEADING them. And this is even true with my 2 girls, aged 22 and 20 today: they're not yet economically autonomous so their parents still have their say about some topics in their lives. Also, our youngsters RESPECT me because they feel that I'm able to stand up for my own needs, too. And they are able to RESPECT THEMSELVES. Well done, keep on track!

I just tried my first time sleep training my 8 month old baby tonight using this videos tips. It took exactly 18 min with a pick up to comfort in between and it's only going to get better. For those saying you shouldn't let your baby cry, it's only for a few minutes at a time for 5 days probably less. You should know if your baby really needs attending to. I suppose it's really just routine. Best video ever! Definately sharing this to family and friends.

Thanks Elle! Your video convinced my wife to tough it out and give our 9 month old a try. Only took less than 30 min. I was in the room doing my thing. Wife was downstairs. This beats holding the baby for 2 hours until my wife's arms and back break + sleep deprivation.

Best video ever! Our son started sleep regressions around 4 months after sleeping the through the night with no problems. We suffered through 6 weeks of sleeping a couple of hours a night and we were both at our wit's end. We research about dozen videos and liked this one the most. 9 MINUTES!!! IT TOOK 9 MINUTES OF LETTING HIM CRY AND HE SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT!!! That was March 2017 and I can count on one hand the number of nights we've had to get up with him since then! Thank you so much, Elle!

I implemented this right from the get go when my baby was 4 days. The 5 hour sleep stretch is the key in those early days. It totally worked! Now my baby is almost 5 months and whenever there is a sleep regression due to teething, travelting etc i redo the sleep training steos and everything falls back in place. Thank you Elle!!

It’s worked!!!!!!! My 10 month old daughter who was breastfed would wake up 5-6 times a night just to nurse for like a minute and then I would have to carefully lay her back. First day, (her 2nd nap in the afternoon) she cried for about 30-45 minute off and on. She fell asleep and it lasted for 10 minutes. When it was time for bed, she cried 3 minutes!!! My husband and I couldn’t believe it! She woke once that night at 1am and cried for about 2 minutes and then it stopped..I went in and checked and she had put herself back to sleep and didn’t wake up until 8:30 when I went in and woke her up. All naps on the second day she cried a MAX of 3-5 minutes. 2nd night she slept all night long! I am amazed! Thank you for making this video!

Thank you so much! The 1st night was okay, but *spoiler alert* nights 2 & 3 were hard and apparently that is common. Last night, night 5, he slept over 9.5 hours! If it wasn't time for me to get up for work and feed him, I'm sure he would have slept even longer! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Thank you thank you thank you for this video! My daughter was sleep trained from the very beginning and then teething started around 6 1/2 months. She would only fall asleep with me in the bed. We resorted to letting her sleep in our bed because we couldn't fight the fight anymore. Bad idea! She's now 8.5 months and fully trained in 3 days! She doesn't even wake up at 3am for her night feed! We have our bed back and couldn't be happier. Sharing this video with all my co-sleeping mommy friends!

Thank you so much for this video Elle. Tried this on my 8months old baby who wakes up 4-6times to breastfeed overnight and wakes up at every slightest noise.Well, all that is in the past now😄 I am super excited to say he now sleeps for straight 10-12hrs without waking up for feeds from the 2nd day. Now my second is 6 months and sleeping terribly... realizing that I needed to revisit this, because I'm doing so much wrong lol. I did newborn part with not letting her nap more than 3 hours in the day and she did sleep better then. But now I nurse her and pick her up through out the night. The last few nights regressed even worse and she woke up at 12pm last night and every other hour after... I'm over it! Can't wait to get her back on track!

You have some really good advice and some not so good. The science behind baby cry is proven and it can actually change their nerve system, the way they bond with people later in life, their trust (or lack of it) to people, etc. I have 3mo old and I've never let him "cry out". Babies don't cry for no reason. They're helpless and they need you. Yes, there are times when moms feel frustrated, but noone said it was going to be easy (at least not anyone who had a child). A baby is a little person, an individual, who a mother needs to get to know and need to learn their signs and it takes time and A LOT of effort. Good luck to everyone who have troubles teaching their baby to sleep. Having a video nanny system may help you a lot to see how your baby sleeps and react accordingly.

I think it's great that you are encouraging parents to teach their children good sleep habits through your methods!😊 It's beneficial not only for the parent but also for the child. With my first, I read The Baby Whisperer, and she is a wonderful sleeper to this day. She falls asleep within a few minutes of laying down and sleeps soundly and peacefully through the night. She is 8 years old now and wakes up with a positive attitude every morning, and I don't have to make her wake up as she willingly gets up. Now, having more experience and knowledge from teaching my first child, my one month old lays down quietly and quickly falls asleep for each nap and at night for his bedtime. He also only wakes up once through the night if I haven't tanked him up enough throughout the day or he is going through a growth spurt. His 1st cluster feed is at 8 pm then his last one is at 10 or 11, depending on how long I want to stay up or spend time with my partner that evening. Then, he sleeps until 7 am. Unless, like I said, he needs that one more feed because of a growth spurt. I love it because it will quickly and increasingly get better. At three months, last feed is at 7 and bedtime 7:30 with still one dream feed and wake up at 7. Then, at 7 months, bedtime is 7:30 with no dream feed and wake up is 7. I love this program and so do my kids!!!! Yay for us understanding the importance of quality sleep and teaching our kids, lol!😊

I have to say I'm shocked by some of the negative comments - everyone is entitled to their opinion but to "lose respect for" etc because someone wants to train THEIR child differently from how you train yours wow just WOW! Hi Elle. I have doing this training to my 5 month baby, and she has made tremendous progress, being able to sleep all by herself. The only thing to notice is that she still wakes up once every night, around 1am, and cries a lot for at least 20-40 mins. My baby had more than one 5 hour stretch of sleep until she was like 4 months. She still slept through the night ( from 1 month ) 12 hours. I never woke her up during the day. To me a baby's sleep shouldn't be disturbed on purpose. And needing you for confort is still a need. I peacefully teach my babies to sleep but never let them cry it out. This is just for all the other out there that want to do it peacefully but still want to sleep. It is possible, but it takes longer than a week, and there will be regressions. But that's parenting...
@Miss_E_lizabeth7 жыл бұрын
Some thoughts.. 1)Regarding "babies have one 5 hour sleep stretch from birth", my son's was pretty close! He would sleep one 4-hour chunk at night and one 4-hour chunk during the day. Other than that it was always just 40 minutes to an hour & a 1/2 all throughout the day and night. But we breastfeed so that may have something to do with his waking. 2) once he hit about 3 months old, he started screaming bloody murder every night at 7 p.m., for the simple reason that he was tired and did not understand 'if I just close my eyes and relax, sleep will come'. He's 1 year now, and still nurses "part-time" and wakes 2 or 3 times during the night only very quickly ("business" like you said) and right back to sleep. Until he's done nursing I don't really want him to sleep through the night because then I have to get up and be bothered with pumping so that I don't go too long without nursing and affect my supply. I often wonder - once he weans, if he'll have a problem sleeping through the night. Only time will tell! Maybe I'll come back and let you know :)

I tried to figure out how to PM you but idk what I'm doing so here goes. My son is 10 months. He is such a good baby and rarely ever cries. I'm exclusively nursing and we cosleep. I'm a single mom and widow since he was 4 months and I really want to "sleep train" him so he can sleep better. The problem is, he never sleeps. He actually saw a sleep specialist because he didn't take naps all day and wakes up every hour at night and it's been like that since he was about 3 months old which once he was about 4 months we started cosleeping because me getting up every half hour when he woke up was too much I guess. I regret it now. He's better with naps during the day now. He takes two sometimes. Usually 9:30 and between 1-3 pm. He cries sooooo much when I try to put him in his crib at night and I only last about 3 minutes because he gets all sweaty and hyperventilates. And ends up getting in the bed with me. Will this method still work or should I tweak it a bit? I need sleep and so does the baby but I don't want him sweating and throwing up on himself. Thank you in advance. No negative comments please. I'm a young single widow and I don't have family closer than 2k miles so I'm trying my best. Thanks

Kassandra Lee I am in in a similar situation. Do you think it is because you cry in front of him or get upset? I wonder as this is what I sometimes do. My son is 1 yo, bad sleeper, waking up all night, crying and tossing. My mum say I should not leave to sleep, so this is part of the problem. I am so confused. I have no idea to fix this. You leave him, he will cry and not stop! I cannot wait 15 mins, ti is cruel.

I’m currently doing cry it out method and I’m on day two and it worked great me and my spouse let him cry and checked him on him every ten to 30 minutes so far day one he cried for 1 hour in a half then day two he only cried for 30 mins and I checked on him at the 10 minute and he is currently out after 30 mins

We are working on this same exact thing. However we are trying to skip the evening nap... maybe we should try to skip the morning nap instead.. then do his two hour long nap.. then he'll do his normal 8:30 to bed... would you suggest skip morning or evening nap. I think he is ready to just skip it. Last night he did just fine without an evening nap but then woke up wide awake at 3 am. He's now 9 months. We kept him in our room until 7months and after his open heart surgery. Otherwise we would have started this way sooner!

I tried your method just nor for his first nap; i lethim cry for 10 mins, soothe him, put him down, he cried again for 10 mins & as soon as i was walking back in the room to soothe him, he was out 🙈.... praying for night time it’ll be easier, he is so used to feed at night for bedtime 😭😭

New comment for an old video😋 my daughter isn't awful about getting a good night sleep; most nights. She's turning 3 months today. My situation is tough as we have another one under one as well. She's great but he us not and he's 11 months. I've been doing a few of the things you've said already but not all. I will definately be trying everything on both babies. Thank you so much for the advice I'm wishing myself luck 😂😅💜

Thanks for the video. Do you use a pacifier? When did you get rid of it? And how did you do it? Somehow I managed to do exactly same thing how you are training, BUT her night sleep got much worse recently and from waking up once at night, we are now waking up 3 times 😤. She will be turning 6 months soon and I want to get rid of the pacifier, put her in her room and eliminate all night feelings. Not sure if I should do it all at once or what would you recommend? Thank you in advance!

I have a 7month old who is waking up 3,4 sometimes 5 times in the night and I swear he will not settle until I feed him. I know in my head he doesn’t need food in the night, but I’m just so tired I can’t seem to figure out what to do. I will give your method a really good go and let you know how it’s working.

I don't even have kids yet, hopefully soon, and when the time comes (God willing), I am SO coming back to this video! I feel like this is a sound way to go about it, and like you said, this is what worked for you and Forde. May not work for everyone, but it might be worth a shot! Excellent video, madam :)

Omg thank you for this video! I've been losing so much sleep with my little one, it was causing stress for both my husband and I. I haven't begun training yet, but this is super useful!

My son sleeps all the night from 4 months thanks god I did what u said literally The problem when he grow up like age 6 + he needs me to stay with him until he fall asleep and I discover that he was very scared of everything it was tiring but after he ages 1 year and half he stopped to be scared and sleep on his own I'd like a video that teaches us how to make baby sleep on his own from the first day coz u know if he fed he will sleep and maybe he will sleep in the bathtub so What's the key to let him up till u put him in his bed Thank u🌹

I will have to give this a try. My baby is 7 months and sleeps terribly. He's been a VERY fussy boy since birth so I don't have the highest hopes.

this video is great and we are in the process of sleep training our 10 month old son...now on day 4...hes been doing better but i cant help but have fears that he is feeling neglected or is crying because he is afraid of the dark or scared in general and these fears r truly heartbreaking and making it almost impossible to keep going :'(

Elle did you swaddle the boys when they were younger infants? Did you put them in the crib/bassinet/pack n play from the beginning? We use a rock n play right now so I am curious if your boys started on a flat surface. Thanks for the video

My newborn is 4 weeks old. should I be putting him in his crib for day naps too? Or would it be okay to put him in a bassinet in our living room/kitchen?

I wish there was a more in depth about getting him to sleep through the night and what you do when he wakes up in the middle of the night.

Excellent tips....It's great that you said you kinda combined all the methods. I feel the same although I have 4 kids and they all shared the bed with me and I never had problems. I know that doesn't work for most of you but it worked great for me. Mine were 4 and 10 years spaced out so there never was 2 babies sleeping in my bed at the same time.

I have a 7 week old and he's been waking up every 2 hrs to eat, 3 hrs tops. How would you sleep train someone like this when he doesn't have that 5 hr sleep time at night like you do? I am however on day 2 of trying to keep him awake more during the day so that he'll sleep more at night but he still wakes up every 2-3 hrs to eat. Please help so that my baby cam sleep longer w/o interrupting his sleep and I can get my rest too.

Hi, my son does the exact samething. He doesn't have a 5 or even 4 hour stretch it has always been 2-3 hours since he's been born. He is 6 weeks now.
@lenakosub32878 жыл бұрын
my daughter is now 6 weeks old and I have the exact same problem.... how does I even start? I keep her up over the day so that she just sleeps 2 times ..., and then I put her down in the night and hope ? ^^ apart from that she hates sleeping by herself... it's only possible when she is really deep asleep and doesn't feel that she is not with me...
@sdwsdwsdw5 жыл бұрын
I know obviously this is an old post but for anyone reading now...at around 5 weeks my newborn was giving us 6-7 hr stretches. When they wake up, obviously they’re super hungry so you feed them right off. I think the key to getting longer sleep stretches is to “top them off” with more milk right before going back down. I heard that just even an extra ounce can give you an extra hour or two of sleep. They only wake up because they’re hungry, so make sure they’re nice and full before bed! Good luck!

I loved how real you are in this video!!! My only question is my son will be 6 weeks old tomorrow...is he really old enough to do the "crying" at nap time thing. I always did it at about 4/5 months with my other 2 but I'd love to get my 6 week old on a schedule now. He wakes up to eat at least every 2 hrs right now at night and it's 3oz every time. I'm dying with no sleep and 2 older kids to chase during the day. Thanks for your help!

Hi Elle, I'm not sure if you've talked about this before but what do you dress your baby in at night? My baby boy is 12 weeks now, sometimes he does poop in the middle of the night and I havent yet mastered to change the nappy/diaper quickly. I dress him in a sleeveless onesie and bodysuit. Thanks for making this video, it has been very informative!

I did with my twins and it worked. I started when they were 2 weeks old. I always put them to bed at 7 pm. We never had a problem. When they got up, I just feed them and put them back down. I never played with them.
