I'd say there's no 'golden age' of web animation, so much as there was a period where it was still new and every kid in was watching and/or doing it on his or her parents' and school computer. It just had much more attention in the 2000-2008 era, but there are way more professional-looking works that exist in it each following year since then

What's weird is that I had the same exact story Zach did about pissing on the couch except that I only pissed on one side and everybody was sleeping around me. The only problem was that I couldn't flip it over because it was a t cushion sofa, so I had to wait for my other friend who was sleeping on the other t cushion to get up so I could swap cushions. I ended up getting away with it until my friend three days later said to me "you pissed on the couch, didn't you?".

Something I noticed since I was a little kid in cartoons, specifically the Simpsons, if a background object was about to be interacted with the shade would get slightly brighter just as it started animating. I figured they used this technique you can tell which cells are background and which are animation.
