Slender Man _walking_ and being physically aggressive is so damn stupid. That misses the entire point; he teleports on a whim over and over, and he kills you without even friggin' _moving._ Him literally walking after victims, or grabbing and choking and pulling them? That's so darn... _off._ It misses the entire point of what's intended to make the character unsettling.

no. The 2018 movie is accurate to Canon Slender Man. back in 2009(so, a week or two before MH was created), Slender Man tears your insides out, puts them in plastic bags then puts them back in your body, and hangs your corpse on trees. I don't think Slender Man moving is a bad thing(Episode #6 of EverymanHYBRID, and The Mary Asher Phone Call from TribeTwelve), though I just dislike Slender Man actually KILLING people, That's what removes the horror for me.

@@1FenFen1 Okay, this is super-late, I simply noticed this comment because of a notification for one that was made below today. My anticlimactically brief response: I don't really care how he was originally, I still think he's just better in his more modern depictions, the way I described. Physical violence and gore feel too... too close to reality? It feels like something I can try and resist. But something mentally destroying or outright killing me just by being near it, while being unable to actually get away from it in the first place? _That's_ horrifying. That taps into both the concepts of "fear of the unknown" and "fear of inevitability" at once - the most primal emotional and instinctive human fears there are, respectively (the two very things we fear about death itself, after all).

Slenderman was scarier when he was just an unsettling anomalous man-shaped thing. As soon as the tentacles got slapped on, he became significantly less scary, imo. Just corny.
@avosmash21215 жыл бұрын
I completely 100% agree..I am confessing to something very embarrassing- ..because of an actual, physical real life experience I had...where yes, I was acually stalked, or at least what may have been only 'possibly' stalked, but was just followed unsettingly, by a very, very tall thin man one night, with unseen features, a business suit, and a briefcase...before there was a trend, before I knew what 'creepypasta' even meant, I really thought 'Slenderman' was a possible real threat. I didn't truly believe he was supernatural. I thought he was a criminal, a grounded in reality serial killer, who was just known for using a sheath or a sack mask, to obscure his face, and hung silently around children playgrounds and empty street corners, and was known to just lurk around and follow you slowly, instead of immeadietly chasing you. I thought this was likely an exaggeration, but still entirely plausible local urban legend, and it filled me with so much dread, to the point I had anxiety at night, after that really troubling experience on my walk back home. But soon as I learned where the origins of Slenderman actually came from, and most of all, when the Tentacle Monster TM and video game ripoffs constantly barraged my feed, I knew these 2 things were not connected whatsoever. I just stumbled upon some creepy random guy. And this was a monster. He was far more sinister when it was ambiguously human, or an abstract concept.
@cartooncritique66255 жыл бұрын
That could be because Slenderman (especially with the tentacles) is more or less just a loose rip-off of Nergal from "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy".

The whole "Slenderman is actually not there, its all an illusion" might be a good idea if it was carried out better. They could have made a film where these girls do a ritual to summon Slenderman and nothing happens, so they think it was all boogus, but then, over the next days, strange coincidences start to pile up, they think they see Slenderman in the distance or the periphery of their view but it always tuns out to be nothing and its these girls going crazy. Might have become a movie that even keeps you guessing if Slenderman even exists in it or if its just the paranoia of the protagonists getting to them.

11:25 from an occult perspective, this actually makes sense. This is a supernatural entity that feeds on negativity, so sacrificing something important to you would feed it. I still ended up being scared during a good portion, even after making fun of the stuff with the teenagers with my friend. I just can't help it, especially in a theater. I think Slender Man would have suited a similar story to Bird Box. Anyone who looks at the Slender Man dies (or kill themselves) and the ones that don't are possessed and try to manipulate others into going into the woods to see him. They find a book or whatever where they discover they have to pick up the sheets of paper nailed to trees that only appear at night and with each paper they find (this takes several evenings) the Slender Man grows stronger and is able to stand outside peoples homes as opposed to being confined to the woods. As they search for the last sheet the Slender Man can come into the homes of the protagonists and ultimately some of them die but as the last sheet of paper is found she reads whatever's on them and Slendy boi vanishes or something... whatever... idk. Also the backstory of Slender Man could have been he was like a 1920's evil business man that was punished by some demon by having all his limbs stretched painfully and his face removed.

A child could think of a better storyline. I imagine they'd come up with something like this: "Slendyman is a scary monster with no face because someone ate it, so now he's mad. He chases little kids down because they keep making fun of him on the Internet. Then he teleports them to the woods because he lives there and he's too lazy to get up and walk and I think it's because it's kinda hard since he's so tall and probably keeps tripping on the black things on his back. Then the parents come into their room and it was just a bad dream. But Slendyman is really under their bed and drags them all under it. They die and the end."

I remember one where a teacher in a zombie start slits his own throat and blood sprays, yet the students act like nothing is wrong. Can't wait to see Slenderman II, In which we get to see Slendermans backstory in which he worked an office job. But one day he caught his wife cheating which resulted in divorce quickly after. Slenderman quickly feel into a deep state of depression after his wife, gained full custody of the kids and took them along with along with his cars and house. The depression caused Slenderman not to only lose his family, cars, and house, but this job as well. He became poor and began gambling every cent he had left until his pockets were completely empty. With no money or place to stay he became homeless. He resorted to digging through garbage cans behind restaurants for any scrap of food he could find. His depression finally got the best of him and he decided there was only one way out. He made a makeshift noose out of rope he found discarded in one of the bins and made his way off to a secluded area of the forest. He rapped the make shift noose around the highest tree branch he could reach and built up the courage to finally end it all. Once he let go he was filled with a mixture of saddnes, regret, and relief. Suddenly the tree branch snapped and fell along with him. Once he hit the ground the branch fell ontop of him causing him to become unconscious. He awoke to the sound of vultures nipping at his seemingly dead body. He tried to move but the branch had landed in such a way that it was impossible to do so. He struggled for what seemed like hours until he finally gave up. Then the worst. His struggles alerted a nearby bear and her cub. He quickly panicked and began to struggle more which alerted the bear even more. The bear attacked Slenderman his screams, down out by the bear repeatly clawing at his face. After the ordeal the bear had drug him a few meters away from where the branch had initially fell, freeing him. The bear had fled and was nowhere in sight. There was no remaining part of slendermans face and he lied on the cold forest floor and suffered until eventually dying from his injuries. His body left to decay for many years and decades until two female hikers discovered parts of his remains in the forest. Tampering with the remains marked the begging of what was now Slenderman. Given his previous circumstances, Slenderman grew a bond toward children since his own where taken from him. As revenge for his suffering he killed the hikers and many others who dare come across the forest.

Haha excellent! Better than the real film. If the bears each took one end of the man and stretched him (so, slender man lol), and his body decayed with the earth and tree branches/roots sort of fused into him... idk I think you have a movie haha. If they bought the 1st movie, yours sounds better - "Slenderman Origins"! Sell it haha

Alright so I want to address something Elvis didn't in the video: the person who played Slender. One of the reasons the games are so effective is because you never see him move, or at least very little. It helps remove him from humanity, as well as blend into the background (much like Michael Myers does.) In fact, the two prey on the same psychological fears and are very similar. However, the director of Halloween told Myer's actor to emote as little as possible and give him the simplest instructions to help remove any sense of emotion. Slender Man in this movie is very emotive, because the person playing him is very experienced at making monsters emote. So part of your fear is removed when you see him walk like a diva or move his arms to choke someone. You know, the reason he has tentacles is so he doesn't move his arms, so that he stays still, again keeping his inhumanity in tact. The actor gives too much personality to his role and it takes away from his presence.

Fun fact about the stabbing, they had this movie play in theaters in every state, except for Wisconsin. They knew something bad happened in that state because of Slenderman, and the only thing they said was, "eh, just leave the Wisconsin theaters out of this."
