Slim you always amaze me. The way you are so self-sufficient and get things done without relying on anyone else, blows my mind. The ways that you invent to get around a problem shows incredible intelligence and creativity. I absolutely love your videos. I wouldn't want to miss any. I dont know what you used to do for a living but you would have done really well in most any of the trades. Doing this by yourself is 3 times the work. Safety slows things down but keeps you less mangeled if it goes wrong. Doing all the figuring and cutting. Also, all the labor of moving the materials. Crazy amount of work. You, sir, are an impressive dude what you dont have in physical power you more than make up for with brain power.

It is difficult to believe the transformation from that raggedy red, tilting wreck to this lovely cabin. You;ll be comfortable 4 seasons, whenever you want to use it. The metal roof is a great investment - you shouldn't have to replace it in your lifetime. I'm sure you'll find a way to plane the rest of the boards - you're creative for sure. Slim McGuyver Potatohead at work! :D I'm so glad to have found your channel so long ago. It's a great joy.

Slam I love your videos …you’re a true craftsman and speaking of that beer that was made in Moncton. It reminds me of back when we went on a Canadian trip in the 70s and we stayed in a campground and somewhere in New Brunswick and met this guy that helped us learn how to clam fish clams or hunt clams, funny joke was his name was Mervin Mullen from Monkton and my dad laughed at that our whole life. We never forgot his name…that was such a fun trip.

The Cedar wood looks beautiful, so nice that you plane it with the bark in place. Well done the new room.... Something tells me that a battery upgrade is around the corner.
@brncrvr2 ай бұрын
Hey Slim, remove the vacuum port cover and the wood chips will freely move out while using the planer. That thing gets blocked up easily without a strong vacuum in use. Also maybe you already do this but I set a board height and run all my boards through, then lower a notch and run them all through again. It’s a little bit more efficient than doing just one board at a time. Hope that helps, good luck

You've come a long way on your cabin, Slim. Next step, a basement! LOL
@mikebrant192Ай бұрын
As a woodworker experienced with working in cedar, a brief caution: Cedar warps and cedar splits, but it is gorgeous! Ensure that you leave room for more wood movement than you imagine will be needed. Oh, and you will want to finish it soon after planing it, as it darkens rapidly to a dull grey/black. If this is going indoors, consider cheap brushed shellac, which is alcohol based. By the time you are done brushing it on a plank, the other end is ready for a second coat, if needed. It has no VOCs, and very little smell after the alcohol evaporates (maybe a half hour). Not only will this preserve the looks, it will greatly reduce the wood movement. Nice work for a winter day....
