I'm waiting for your "How to shoot slingshot series", since you are obviously quite the expert.
@sturmslingshotsandshenanigans3 ай бұрын
I'm no expert. There are those who tournament shoot that are more accurate than me. I briefly cover what I do in several hunting videos, but @Capitultcarnage has some of the best how to tutorials out there. Bill Hayse at pocket predator had some great how to shoot content as well. I won't try to do what they do. What I can offer is hunting specifics as they apply to slingshots. I also have a fair amount of experience stalking game. I will humbly leave the how to shoot a slingshot to those guys. My area of expertise lies in getting close to game and getting an accurate shot off under pressure.

I only shoot lead since I've found it's cheaper for me personally. I also prefer the flatter trajectory/more power vs a less dense or aerodynamic material. The cheapest steel ammo I can get is like $4 a pound shipped, whereas scrap lead is $1 a pound at a scrap yard, or free if you come across it. I have a Lee 6 cavity mold and an electric Lee pot which lets me crank out ammo. If you get into lead I'd only use 6 cavity, since you quickly pay off their extra cost by spending 1/3 less time at the bench. Even paying myself a theoretical $25 an hour for casting, I still save money with lead. That said, I'll be getting some steel soon as I don't really make a habit of shooting outdoors more than necessary, as lead is lead.

I have a .410 cal 12 ball mould and a Lee pot. I used to hunt with lead a lot, then I tried to replenish my stock of scrap lead.... It's like 6 to 8 $ a pound here.

@@sturmslingshotsandshenanigans holy shit, that's insane lmao. Continental US is $1 since they usually pay you like ¢40 for it. Scavenging lead is something I kinda stopped doing as my local area has been well picked (by me), and car batteries are a huge pita to deal with. I also think that you can get real money for a car battery, usually enough to pay for the amount of lead that's in it. Sounds like the price per pound on steel is better for you, even if it's a sore dick deal lol

Ok, I got to ask....yeah i know they're 1/2" ....but I like the white glass ammo... actually measured the distance on the last squirrel I took and it was 19 yards. It happened to be a head shot, so he was down quickly. I guess what I like is when I hit one with the glass... that's it. I have runoffs with steel. Maybe I should go to 1/2" steel. Course I gotta get me some good bands... I'm learning...us old dogs can learn.
@sturmslingshotsandshenanigans17 күн бұрын
Glass is less dense than steel, steel is less dense than lead. The greater the density the more energy a projectile will carry down range. I have taken plenty of game with marbles. They work. Steel gives you more FPE and therefore more killing power. This becomes far more noticeable beyond 20 yards. I hope that helps.
@jimmywalker242917 күн бұрын
@sturmslingshotsandshenanigans yeah I knew the energy thing. I handloaded about 20 different calibers over a 40 year time. I generally have always gone for the heavier projectile. I was loading 185gr in 357 mag and everyone said I was losing too much velocity..... I took eight 160lb+ whitetails with it. That was everyone I shot at. Also took an ungodly number of 85-250 lb hogs with it. So now I will start looking for the 11mm stuff. I think all along the white marbles gave me ranging info and easier to find to reuse...lol...carry on...😎

Rust indeed! It's frustrating when using a metal detector to find errant arrows at an archery range, when your "discriminator" says "There's metal down there!", and you dig, only to find nothing of an arrow except rust from it's several year's old point.
@sturmslingshotsandshenanigans3 ай бұрын
Amen! Wasted time searching and money on lost arrows is the primary reason I switched to hunting small game with a flip. A stick bow is still my favorite hunting tool for medium and big game though!
