Jay and Alex saved the band back in 2014. After losing 2 of their founders and most iconic members between 2010 and 2013, I personally was skeptical about what could happen to the band. Still, after Vol.5 was released, I couldn't be more impressed with both of them, especially how Jay honored everything that Joey made in the past, he surpassed the standards and made them sound as incredible as they sounded these past 9 years. Jay may not be Joey, but he earned a place in our hearts in the same way Joey did, and I will always be thankful to him for what he achieved with Slipknot and as a professional.

I think there's probably more "behind the scenes" stuff to the story. With Joey they didn't know about his ailment. Maybe Corey and Clown are simply bringing clown's son in. Who knows? 🤷‍♂ We'll get the jist of what happened a year or 2 from now just like finding out about them not knowing about Joey.

Slipknot explained why Joey was out of the band. He ended up getting a disease where his legs were not working from time to time. He couldn’t do bass pedal like that and backing tracks were not a thing like that at the time. He was in and out of hospitals and things like that. It wasn’t for no reason. If you notice (Tortilla Man is a great example) Slipknot is doing away with long term members and replacing them with musicians that either worked with Slipknot members on side projects or people that have done tech work for some of the members in the band at some point. I assume they're doing this so that the current core members of Slipknot can be the creative force while the new members simply perform live and execute whatever they need to in the studio without pushing to add their own creative flare into the mix. Having nine people in the creative process sounds like a nightmare and at the end of the day, it's just easier to have 1 - 3 people write the material while the other members write their parts around it accordingly. It sounds crappy but doing it that way keeps things consistent sound wise. This decision to part with Jay has nothing to do with his skill but more than likely to do with creative input. Jay has played in quite a few different bands, all of which are very different from one another and it's likely Jay just wants to move on and do something else...or maybe Jay felt like he had put in the time and effort and deserved more say so in the creative department but was denied. Slipknot's statement sounds like it was a mutual decision but we won't really know until Jay himself says something otherwise. Let's also take a moment and be honest with ourselves here. As much as we all loved Chris and Craig, how much do you think they were allowed to contribute in the recording process? You can argue Craig almost if not always produced the intro tracks to Slipknot's albums but other than that he and Chris were more of a presence during live shows. I could make the same argument for Sid. As much as I love him as a musician I don't think I've heard much from him in recent songs which is unfortunate because he's very talented and underutilized. We may never really know what happens behind closed doors, we can only speculate.

I think that this was an extremely terrible decision for Slipknot. Usually I don't care when members are kicked or leave Slipknot, but Jay filled some massive shoes, and in my personal opinion, was a significantly better drummer than anyone else they could have had, the guy was born to be in Slipknot. As many of us have said today, we doubt that Jay of all people, the guy who has poured his life and soul into Slipknot over the past decade, would be unable to evolve. Evolve into what? Jay is an immaculate drummer. I hope that Jay felt mutual in this decision because he honestly deserves so much better. With that said, it feels like a Clown decision, and Clown doesn't deserve as much say in the band as he gets. He hits a beer keg. When is Slipknot going to replace the guy who kits the beer keg, starts fueds with everyone, has probably the worst contribution to the band, who is constantly not present during tours, and who is lagging behind the band in every way possible? I hope that Jay speaks up about it and speaks up about Craig Jones' departure. Also, I hate that they even mentioned Joeys name in the post. Its such a degrading thing to add in there when speaking about Jay, as if Jay's only job was to be the next Joey, but Slipknot also fired Joey, turned their backs on him, and left him to die. So Slipknot of all people really are the last people that should be still speaking about Joey.

A creative decision!? I've been a huge Slipknot fan since self titled, and when Joey left I was thinking that there was no way anyone could even fill half of ONE of his shoes. But Jay absolutely made me eat my words, after he sat at the kit for a few years I truly thought that he was the absolute best choice in the entire world for Slipknot. I can't even fathom why they would let him go for "creative" reasons, the dude is probably talented enough to play anything you could throw at him. I'm always excited to see what the future holds for Slipknot, but if I'm being honest this is a huge let down for me. I don't want to jump to conclusions just yet... but as of this moment in time I'm pretty damn disappointed in Slipknot.

With all of the sudden lineup changes, I think it's worth noting where the band is at currently. They've just finished their label contract and from what I know, they have no plans to sign another. They can now do anything they want without having to appease a label or follow a schedule. It seems that the band wants to spread its wings creatively speaking: Their most recent album featured some of their most experimental tracks like Adderall, the material they've released after the album has also been more experimental for the band (Like the song Bone Church or the Adderall EP), and there's the fact that both Corey and Clown have been wanting to release the more rock leaning album Look Outside Your Window that they recorded during the All Hope is Gone sessions. The band obviously wants to go in a new direction and many of the members may not want to go that route or have felt that they've done their time. That's at least how I see it; it may make more sense in the future.

They were a huge part of my life from 1999 until the past handful of years. Now the more I learn about the inner workings of the band and just all the drama and ego each time something happens I find that I care less and less. I was a hardcore Slipknot fan literally since their self titled album dropped in 99. Their message meant a lot to me. Then two of the members turned into the very thing that they claimed to hate and be against and turned into another bunch of fake plastic LA types that their former selves would have chewed up and spit out. The saying never meet your heros has never been more true to me. I never thought I'd say this but it's time guys. Their best days are far behind them. Walk away before you put out something worse than TESF.

@@sethw997 He has definitely let it all go to his head. The problem with having such a thick neck is he can support having such a big head longer than most lol but seriously he has turned into almost like a fake plastic actor or seedy L.A. manager type. He's definitely been huffing his own farts. He's just gotten so fake. And the strangle hold that him and Shawn have over that band is just sickening to me. All that talk of a brotherhood and then we find out that everyone except Corey and Shawn are basically hired help. I can guarantee that that wasn't the original contract that Mick etc signed in the beginning. I think once Paul died and Joey was unceremoniously tossed out (to be fair while it turned out that Joey did have a disability he was also using pretty hard), that since two other founding members were gone, Corey and Shawn found a way to get the rest of the remaining original Self Titled lineup to sign a new contract basically demoting themselves. There's no way any of the guys other than maybe Chris and Jim would have signed a contract like that back then and I name those two because they came in right before touring started and would have been kinda hired help at the time until becoming permanent. Corey knew he wouldn't be kicked out because lets be honest if Corey wouldn't have been the singer on Self Titled then Slipknot wouldn't have taken off the way it did. Shawn knows that to so I'm thinking they got together and found a way to pressure the other band members into screwing themselves or be kicked out. I had just turned 18 when self titled dropped in 99 and was into Numetal and I remember how a lot of what I was listening to always felt like there was something missing and then I heard Self Titled and was blown away. Back then the internet was still the wild west and there wasn't a whole lot that you could learn about bands other than magazines. There was a time where all the teens in my whole neighborhood believed these guys were truly psychos just because rumors would pop up and spread about different bands (like the one where Marilyn Manson supposedly had his two bottom ribs removed so he could give himself head lol). But I really was super into the band and the mystery behind who they were and really bought into the message etc and I obviously realized basically once vol 3 came out that all that was either BS from the get or they didn't believe it themselves anymore. Vol 3 isn't a bad album it's just when you have been listening to self titled and Iowa in real time as they came out and read how the band had made Iowa in response to people in the industry telling them that if they toned their aggression down and made more songs like Wait and Bleed that they would get more radio play and become more famous. Then to go from Iowa to Vol 3 was a shock to the system. It shocked me more than when Korn went from Life is Peachy to Follow the Leader. I think a lot of people started becoming fans when Vol 3 came out so they didn't understand why the fans from before were like wtf? It eventually grew on me and honestly every album up to .5 took a little time to sink in but to me .5 was the last Slipknot album that I enjoyed. I think Slipknot has run its course. Their song writing has become seriously formulaic: screaming till the hook then singing and the singing steadily got closer and closer to Stone Sour. I was never one of those people who thought just because Corey sang on a Slipknot track that it sounded like Stone Sour until WANYK and then really bad on TESF. WANYK has a handful of good songs but I didn't vibe with TESF at all. The last 4 or so songs ARE Stone Sour songs. I don't care what anybody says. If you had played those songs to someone before anyone knew that they were Slipknot songs they would have said that Stone Sour was coming out with a new album.

Same, saw them at the house of blues in Vegas in 99 - when the extent of their stage performance was to set fire to each other with lighter fluid…. Then a few months later at the ‘99 Ozzfest in San Bernardino amphitheater…. Personally I lost interest after they fired Joey…. Of course, I am a drummer so I am biased in that regard… Slipknot is a business, Joey and Shawn started it at the Sinclair gas station third shift…. Corey came later but quickly after renegotiating their contract with roadrunner records it became a business…. After Paul died they fired Joey and it became the Corey and clown show…. No longer primarily focused on music, but a money making franchise with hired guns under contract for a flat fee with no incentives - maybe a bonus clause… So to see these continuous lineup changes is no surprise…. Musicians can be replaced - but once Corey retires, slipknot won’t last. He can’t be replaced - unfortunately….

@@Nightwing300 They didn't release figures. They have their own definition of what "a lot" is. Chris left basically saying it's all about money. They also chose to form a 9 man band. That's on them. I love Slipknot, but most bands split revenue 4 ways, not 9.

NOBODY will be able to replace Jay!? Metal drummer of the year for 2 years in a row not to mention he's just a absolute beast behind the kit! Idk what happened but imo it's a HUGE mistake. Idk who in the world they'd replace him with?

@@paulletchworth2036 "No one better at what he does", as in playing metal music on drums? Eloy Casagrande (just check his cover of "The Heretic Anthem"), Alex Rudinger, Derek Roddy, Lyle Cooper, El Estepario Siberiano, George Kollias, Jon Rice, Krimh, Nils "Dominator" Fjellström, Ken Bedene and Dave McGraw: every one of them are equally, or more capable drummers than Jay when it comes to metal music - and those are just the guys I remembered on the spot, as I could go on. I actually do think that Jay is a really good metal drummer, but these sort of ignorant "GOAT" statements are just blatant misinformation.

@Add88228Jay can do anything they can do as well dude , Jay fit Slipknot he seamlessly came in and was a great drummer for Slipknot when Joey stepped out and has been great for 10 yrs , my opinion is like a lot of others here , they will lose a lot of support for this if in fact it was their decision to part ways with Jay , they will see !and we will all see what direction they go from here and who they replace him with .

Joey was my guy. When he was out, I swore I'd never support Slipknot until he was back in the band. Then Joey died. I was so closed minded I never gave Jay a chance. Then one day, I saw a concert online and Jay kicked the living shit outta those drums. I was back to supporting them. Saw them live a couple years ago. Now this. 😔 Just listened to 4 Vended songs. They remind me a lot of Slipknot.

There's a huge problem with clowns son which is obviously nepotism baby syndrome, I also think if thst happens the fans will assume (rightfully so) that jay was fired specifically to give the job to a band members kid!! Idk how that will play with the fanbase as jay is one of the rare drummers ppl openly welcomed into the band over the OG drummer.
