0:46 is probably my favorite section of the song. That bass riff is chilling. I didn't catch it my first listen through, but ever since then, on every relisten of the album I restart De Sade easily 10 times. That riff, and the motif of repeat words at the end of verses just fits so well. it's gives off such a uniquely chilling atmosphere that has me coming back consistently.

This song hits me so hard. To me its about being in an abusive relationship. The title "De Sade" was the name of a frenchman that was a well documented s & m enthusiast...lol. He derived pleasure from recieving and inflicting great pain. As a matter of fact I believe the word "SADIST" is derived from from his name...the Marquee De Sade. But anyways the song is saying that those of us who continue to seek abusive partners must be gluttons for pain and torture or "sadists". I have been in many abusive relationships. Was well into my 30s before I realized that it was because my parents or my Father rather was an abuser and that was all I knew. And I put myself thru great pain because of that fact...it almost killed me even..I was ready to end my own life rather than end the relationship....very sick. But I can feel that pain in this song. Especially when he screams De Sade at the end it brings up all those sick angry, sad feelings. Makes me wonder if Corey has been in similar relationships. Leave it to Slipknot. They really are so therapeutic...when I'm alone I scream along before I break down and cry...then I feel better. Anyways...umm does anyone else get that from this song also?

Interesting how the name of the band is written in lyrics: "twist me into knots". As far as I'm concerned, Slipknot's lyrics was always about the feelings related to people or music itself or fans etc. I also get emotional while listening to this kind of music. How great it is.

I don't know how many times i've listened to this track since the album release, but it's definitely my favorite so far. That melancholic touch is so crushing. And for someone like me, who is already in utter emptiness, that's almost dangerous. It's my "language". You hit my nerve again. De Sade will forever be my fall 2022 anthem. Although i'm someone who has long overcome the pain of the end of the Iowa era, i was still very skeptical about the pre-release singles. Especially about Yen I didn't say a good word and I was even sure that this song will never grow on me. WTF I thought to myself... But now, the album as a whole... it's a masterpiece. There's nothing rushed or anything like that here. Here we have just damn good music from people who know their craft. That's right, the absolute killer hits like Critical Darling or the ultra violent wrecking balls like Solway Firth aren't on The End. Everything is more simplistic here. Assorted. As if you had just gotten up to reorient yourself. But in such a damn good way that we get to hear unbelievable depth here that takes you away. And folks, please remember: Iowa wasn't music. It was a dark disease that you either survive or not. You can't repeat that. Unless you want to die. 3:30

I agree with pretty much everything u said except for, “ Iowa wasn’t music” Iowa was one of their best albums, and just because it was really rough for them at the time, it doesn’t mean we can consider their work to not be music. This is probably one of my MOST favorite albums, gentlemen. I think the expressiveness, the melancholy, the dramatic is so prevalent here. De Sade, Yen, Medicine for the Dead. Wow! I can't stop listening to these tracks. I'm in NYC, and my neighbors think I'm probably a psycho. They might be right! 😂😅🤣 I blast this so loud that you can hear it echo two blocks away. I don't really give a shite what anyone thinks. THIS is real music. This is art. This is the shite! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

The first 35 seconds is perhaps my favorite moment in the album. Love craig jones and the oldschool tribal percussions! Its very similar to the intro of prosthetics. Also the opening verses of Dying song is similar to Sic, and the outro of Hivemind is similir of the outro in Sulfur

Love how the beginning reminds me of a combination of “Scissors” and “Prosthetics” but then goes a whole new direction And the dueling guitar solos back and forth between Mick and Jim near the end… 😮 Oh let’s not forget to mention Corey slipping the line into the lyrics “just eat my heart and twist me into “”knots”””❤ After listening to the album a handful of times already I’ve come to realize this track is especially a masterpiece!!!
