This is the most amazing recipe!! It may be simple to some but I am telling you if you bring these to a pot luck you will be a hit. My family fought over the last one. They were way better than even I thought they would be!! Not normally a huge fan of wings but these were the bombdiggitty!! I make them often now! I think they would be great on a chicken leg or thigh then reduce the sauce like she did and finish them off on the BBQ grill while using the basting sauce! Yum 😋

Yet another lovely and delicious recipe and resulting dish Marion! Thank you for sharing as always. I noted that you used Worcestershire Sauce in your recipe to give - as you said - a BBQ sort of a flavor to the wings. I wonder if you have ever heard of or are familiar with a product called Liquid Smoke? It is an ingredient that is popular in some Southern US States in America among BBQ enthusiasts. The brand we see around here is called Dale's Liquid Smoke and it is made to add smoky BBQ flavors to things that may not be cooked on an outside grill. It might be something for you to check out. None the less, I am looking forward to recreating your recipe in my kitchen at home. I am sure that it will be absolutely delicious. Cheers!

I made these last night. I thought 3 hours in the slow cooker was too long, so I shortened it to 2.5 hrs. Still too long. I reduced the sugar content by lowering the quantities of sweet chilli sauce, honey and brown sugar. All good for taste. The dry sprinkle was made using Japanese shio (salt). It was a little too salty, so next time...1/2 of the quantity. Otherwise...delicious and ridiculously simple!

Is there any way to cook in a rice cooker instead?
@dozog5 жыл бұрын
Sorry for this indirect answer... It depends on your rice cooker. The whole idea is that you slow-cook your chicken pieces in the marinade at medium high temperature. I use about 70°C for two hours usually. It will get them safe to eat and tender. If your rice cooker has a setting for that, you re good to go.

The liquid that comes out of the pot is significantly more than the two half cups of semi liquid ingredients that you put in. So much more that I think you re not telling us everything. If the difference is juices from the chicken wings, you had very wet wings and they will have lost so much oils that they will be dry.
@KattBon5 жыл бұрын
The skin rendered out a ton of fat. I'm not into the idea of slow cooking chicken wings. MAYBE pressure cooking for that flavor penetration, but probably not. Without much exception, that skin should be treated as though you want it crispy and intact at the end. You can dry the wings off and toss them with baking powder and salt and bake them in the oven for moist, crispy wings. I would just combine and cook the sauce in a saucepan and toss with the hot wings before serving, or baste the wings after baking and sticking them under the broiler briefly. Some would say slow cooking the wings in the sauce imparts more flavor deeper into the meat, but I'm thinking I would probably miss crispy, juicier wings more than I would miss that flavor...which I'm largely getting anyway in the sauce. But idk. What do I know. 😏
@dozog5 жыл бұрын
@@KattBon I follow what you say, but the increase in liquid is (as far as I can see) too much for just rendered fat. -Drumlets (at least the way I get them in stores) don't have that much skin, and are also quite easy to dry out. -Besides, she says she s reducing the liquid for a full ten minutes to get it thick. The website recipe says this is fir a full 1 kg of chicken. The amount of liquid from the recipe just does not match with what it shows around 2:53. (And I know they cut the video to show it from different angles, but I don't believe the amount of liquid she gets out of the pan in the first cut) Edit: I think this recipe is not intended for crispy chicken. As you say, the sticky sweet sauce would not allow for it. The sauce contains a rich amount of sugar. I think it's supposed to give you that chewy sticky mouthfeel.

Why not just bake them in the first place?
@porkulate5 жыл бұрын
Because when they are sitting in and cooking in that marinade for three or more hours, the flavor, the tenderization and the moisture imparted to the wings will be simply devine, as opposed to just baking and basting them for a relatively short time in the oven.
