Then you can flow downtown and through Old Montreal to cross the St-Lawrence River and enjoy the view of the city from the Parc Jean Drapeau. I don't skate, but during the winter I strap XC skis to my bike, bring them to the mountain, go up and down, then cycle back home, it's fun. I can also bring ice skates pretty much everywhere.

@@zensukaiThanks for watching! We’ll keep documenting the winter ahead! I’ve had an up and down relationship with winter (like most Canadians in snowy parts of the country). GREAT video! :) Nice rig and setup. That is a long day though. I'm not sure I can improve upon that day. I make coffee before my ride and store it in 20oz iron flask. I keep it in my feed bag while I'm drinking it. I think I might actually enjoy drinking my coffee the most when I am drinking it while gliding down hill. Do you actually call that Alternative cycling-or just a title of a vid? How do people react? Do you have to explain it to people?
@bike.breathАй бұрын
@@stevenr5149 thanks for the kind words! I don’t always stop to make coffee, I often go to cafes instead but on this day I had a larger window of free time than usual so I thought I’d just use it doing stuff that leaves me just sitting in a park and taking it slow. I consider this alt cycling! Our little community of alt cycling seems to be growing and in my opinion it embraces things like steel bikes, slow rides, not always covering a ton of distance, basically a non-competitive side to the sport. No one has really asked to be honest! I think some of the larger KZbin channels like Path Less Pedalled have helped put it on people’s radar a bit more.

Stop for "STOP"signs! (2:20) Obey the rules of the road. What's to keep you from riding on the wrong side of the road if it's more convenient? Why not jump curbs or blast through construction sites? You are supposed to take your RIGHTFUL place on the road; no more, no less. It's hard enough to get bike improvements in cities as it is. On an unrelated note: you mentioned your childhood concussion and your subsequent trepidation on the skateboard. Might not a helmet be in order?
@bike.breathАй бұрын
Hey! Thanks for watching. You might be surprised how common the “Idaho Stop” is. While it hasn’t been legally introduced anywhere in Canada yet there’s a lot of cyclists who stand by its place in cycling. I’m not sure where you live but where I live cycling infrastructure is at risk of being removed regardless of overwhelming positive data (thanks Doug Ford). Me turning right in a quiet residential area that I know well, full of one ways (where I can see all intersecting lanes) should be less of a concern than much larger anti-cycling laws trending into conservative politicians plans. Regarding the helmet, thank you for your concern! I happen to know the risks as well. Cheers, Rick!
