You have to watch AT&T they bind you into a contract and whether or not it's your fault or theirs they charge dismissal fees. The last time they did this to us they charged us $100-200 USD It was their fault and we had to call them out almost weekly to work on their lines in the back of our property. They still charged us to drop the services. I honestly think if people got together and shown a lawyer what AT&T does it may create a class action lawsuit.

A beta tester in Northern VA here... and love it. FYI, best details are on reddit if troubleshooting is needed. Be sure to avoid any obstructions as they will severely impact your connection. We still have 2-4 min per day of no satellites in view, which will get better with more launches, but be aware the satellite constellation "net" gets wider the closer you are to the Equator, meaning more satellite gaps for you for now. We also average a few minutes of "beta test" downtime every day too. Unfortunately these outages are usually 10-30 sec at a shot, and add up over time. But it's already a rural game changer for us and us only getting better.

What many people do not realize is that AT&T, Century Link and Earth Link all use the old telephone lines for the internet connection. Back in the old days we called these internet connections DSL (Digital Subscriber Lines). Every time you wanted to get onto the internet you had to "sign in" to the ISP (Internet Service Provider) with your name and password. This connection stayed until you closed your linking software in some manner so you were not always connected 24/7 to the internet. The problem that this has is that the further away from a distribution point of the phone lines you are the slower your speeds will be. The closer to that distribution point you are the faster your speeds will be. A person that was 500 feet away from this distribution point would have double if not faster the speeds as one who was 3 miles away. People in the boonies going this route end up with speeds as he did in this video. It is like having a 14.4k baud modem vs having a direct connection like you have with cable internet even though they "upgrade" the lines in the areas as they need to.

@waynethompson84163 жыл бұрын
You might want to invest in a UPS system for the power to the dish. That way, even if you loose AC power to the home, your satellite system will still be up and you can at least use your phone via WiFi to stay connected.
@rver993 жыл бұрын
Just be aware that where the antenna is pointing one day will not be where it's pointing the next. There's a reason it's motorized. Unlike most satellite services we are used to (TV, etc) the starlink satellites are in low earth orbit, not geosynchronous orbit. They continuously move across the sky. So for example I would not mount it to say the north side of a pitched roof thinking it will never need to point south.

So glad to see this vid!! At least I know it is getting CLOSER to coming to fruition in southern AL! I paid the $99 fee to sign up for Starlink Satellite several months ago when I read about it while searching for a possible internet alternative in my very rural location. Currently, we have two internet options HughesNet & Via link, both of which have very slow download/upload speeds, much slower than your Century Link, if you can believe that and bandwidth usage caps! Example: on 3-22-21 I tried to download a 1.4 GB video. It showed I had 10 days left for the completion of download at 4:30am!! Another video I tried to download was 149 MB and it showed I had 2 days left for the completion of the download, again at 4:35am. 2:00am-8:00am is supposed to be my FREE TIME where I am not throttled unless I go over their set bandwidth usage cap. I am still on their 2G system even tho they coerced me to upgrading my modem with the built-in WiFi in 2016. With the new built in router, It never fails that all of my bandwidth data is used by the 10th day of my new billing cycle...even if I am NOT AT HOME and all PC's, laptops, WiFi devices are turned off & unplugged so I stay in their throttled down speed every single month. I never had that problem before I got the new modem with the built in router! HUGHESNET is using up all my bandwith with their constant monitoring of THEIR system and why they told me I should NEVER turn off my modem at night so save bandwidth usage!!!! I can't watch live streams of any kind without horrible buffering to the point I discontinue watching them. I pay $150 a month for this poor service that also has major issues when it rains/storms! When I pre-ordered the Starlink Satellite System in February 2021, my order was confirmed and indicated that service would be available in my area mid to late 2021 so I am dealing with what I have until it becomes available. HughesNet told me when I called about my slow response time/throttled down service that I needed to UPGRADE my equipment & Service Plan, AGAIN, but that would have put me into another 2 yr contract that would cost me an arm & two legs to get out of. So seeing your video gives me encouragement that it is COMING. Living in a very rural, wooded area I have very poor cell phone service and have to walk my property to get a signal to use my cell phone so using a HOT SPOT is not an option, either. I rarely have cell service inside my home, supposedly from the tin roof & all the trees. Living in the deep backwoods with a very low populace has its advantages but also many DISADVANTAGES when it comes to services available like internet and satellite TV & cell phone reception/service! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO and I do apologize for the lengthy comment. I just wanted folks out there to know just how bad internet is for us rural folks! FINGERS CROSSED we will get our Starlink Satellite service SOON!! Blessings to you & yours, always!

Just a tech nerd correction, your speed is measure in Megabits per second (Mbps) and not MegaBytes (MBps) per second. Divide the Mbps speed by 8 to get the MBps speed. So at 130Mbps, you are downloading 16.25MBps, for example, a 2-hour 720p movie is approximately 1GB it will therefore download in 61.5 seconds. No matter the terminology, that is FAST. I am wondering how you got that so soon. I have been signed up in Missouri and am waiting for mine. You are right this will make rural internet a dream now. It will lower my bills by over $100.00 for internet and sat tv

That will be good for your live streaming. It will be interesting to see how far from the Wi-Fi transmitter you can get a signal. 500 yards? You may need a signal booster on the roof to the other side of the farm, then you can connect your security cameras too for live cow-watch.

You were getting 4 gig downloads with CenturyLink? We have CenturyLink and only get 1.4 TOPS! CenturyLink promised us years ago that 1.4 was just the beginning. They said they would upgrade to higher speed very soon. It's been 10 years and now they have stopped providing service to new neighbors in my area. Its almost like CenturyLink is trying to get rid of rural customers. This system looks very promising. We had satellite internet before CenturyLink years ago when it first came out and it was pretty bad and very expensive. I pray this system you have shown lives up to your review.

Were not far from Clemson SC but yet the website said our area isn't expected to have service until 2023. If it works from satellites why do they need "service" to our area? Do you know, lol, ??? Love your videos!
