@@majavivo I have had a boat or boats all of my life. I was lucky to have a house on the water with 2 boat slips. Owning, maintaining, insurance, fuel, repairs, depreciation, licenses, tackle, electronics, Boat US, winterizing, sheesh. Did I love it? Yes but, as I got older it became too much for me. I started to do charters even when I had my boats and found that I caught more fish on them compared to on my own. Good Captains work together to help each other out. They do this for a living and they want to make sure you catch fish. Otherwise, you will not book a trip again.

From what I’ve seen watching boats and prices for the last 15 years, “New” and “Lower priced” will not be in the same sentence. Boat prices are and have been outrageous for quite a few years. I can’t understand where ALL these people work that are buying these boats.

Thank you for posting this video. I looked seriously at a 22' Blackjack Bay Boat last Summer. Totally rigged with trolling motor, 250 Yahama, Electronics and ready to fish I was looking at over $100,000. I decided to pass. Boat prices are totally insane! Most of us would have to make payments to purchase and then have to pay insurance to protect against loss/damage. Then don't forget the tax man before you even think about the cost of the gas, ice, bait, etc of actual fishing trips. I hope the boating industry is and remains healthy but I have a hard time believing that the percentages of people that can/will afford boats is actually growing.
@johnm5714 Жыл бұрын
These prices would make ownership for most working class people very difficult -if you try financing most of it.Would be interesting to see what the payments would be with like 20% down-just for laughs.We all know some can handle it but probably more couldn’t-or wouldn’t want to.Shelling out $500~~$1000 bucks a month for a little center console would be painful.Especially if your up here in the NE and it’s shrink wrapped for 4 months of the year in your driveway.
@edgewater210 Жыл бұрын
@@johnm5714 Interest rates were 5.9% on a 15 year loan with 20% down last year. Unless the boat manufacturer or dealer has secured lower interest rates I would suspect that interest rates are even higher this year.

Everglades is a very different class of boat. There will always be the person who wants the best and is willing to pay,although the joystick on a single is questionable. @jiggingjerks Жыл бұрын
Personally, the way I started was with smaller boats. My first three boats were 21 feet or under, and I learned slowly before moving up to a 23 and then a 29. That’s just my experience. I’m sure there are others out there whose first boat was a 35 with trips but I think getting the basics down first is critical. A small boat is much easier to maneuver and you will get comfortable faster.
@josephpolestino7865 Жыл бұрын
Smaller boat is a good start. Practice until you learn how it maneuvers and how wind and tide affect it. Learn how to use your electronics and definitely get your local paper charts and learn them as well. Pick the right days to go boating and have fun.

On a small boat, make sure you have good bilge access. Nothing like pulling a 6 inch pump though an 8 inch hole everytime you need a repair, or cleaning. Wish I paid more attention to that when I bought my first one
@jcm513 Жыл бұрын
Definitely buy used! Start out smaller, less investment etc until experience shows you the features and such that are important to you. Then upgrade accordingly. I started out 5 years ago with a 14' aluminum Jon boat and I'm up to a 21' walk around....with a 17 footer in between 😄
